The bible tells us about God with his people in the old testament. The new testaments tells us about Jesus who died for our sins. The bible tells us how they lived and some of the problems that they faced. We need the bible because without it people would not have ever believed that Jesus died for our sins. But now we use it to talk to other believers. To beat them up with scripture. You can't say anything out of experience, because no one would believe you. They didn't have bible when Jesus was on the earth. The only ones carrying around the torah was the Pharisees. We are suppose to be allowing Jesus to live through us. Walk as he did through this life. But what we have made it, has bogged us down in words that are not living, there just words.

This is something I have often wondered myself. The scriptures are used like a stamp of proof for a persons cause it seems, like their more for proving your own ideals and beliefs right as if they are not sacred and precious. Of course they are to correct and reproof and educate but clearly that is not the case for the most part even under the guise of doing so they seem to really be more of a I am right and your wrong kind of thing.

I have actually seen the scriptures come alive more from those who don't post a lot of scripture but their words are of scripture like the word of God is written on their hearts they don't require a specific verse to post their hearts speak for them. I treasure such people.

Right. Those that push the scriptures I give them scripture. Most of the time they don't believe them. We're suppose to live the scriptures, not continually use them to keep us forever studying and never producing good fruit because of them.

True it seems no matter how many scriptures one presents there is always a counter verse handed back. Debating even fiery debates can have a purpose but if it's all just constant bickering arguing and proving each other wrong then that debate has lost any value it once had. There is no purpose to any debate if one cannot learn and grow from it, some seem to come to the bdf merely to debate and nothing else no learning no making a difference and no hearts being helped at all.

It takes a heart of a student not a teacher to come to the bdf and debate with the right reasons, to come here top learn and grow and to in turn allow God to use us to do the same for others. Regardless of our reasons for being here every word we post affect people in some way or another and thus both God and satan are very active in this forum. So before anyone comes to debate I think they should search their hearts and question their reason and motives for doing so

Hi PJ, what the Bible itself has to say about this is perhaps the principle reason that we view the Bible, both OT and NT, as our regula fidei, and refer to it daily/hourly as an instruction manual for life. This is, after all, God's universe, and living life in a manner that is consistent with His directives in the Bible has proven to be very advantageous (just look at the millennia-long/worldwide success of the Jews/Jewish communities, for instance)!

Here are some of the things the Bible has to say about this (of course, to do that, I am going to have to quote the Bible ;)).

Deuteronomy 6
1 Now this is the commandment, the statutes and the judgments which the LORD your God has commanded me to teach you, that you might do them in the land where you are going over to possess it,
2 so that you and your son and your grandson might fear the LORD your God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments which I command you, all the days of your life, and that your days may be prolonged.
3 O Israel, you should listen and be careful to do it, that it may be well with you and that you may multiply greatly, just as the LORD, the God of your fathers, has promised you, in a land flowing with milk and honey.
4 Hear, O Israel! The LORD is our God, the LORD is one!
5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.
6 These words, which I am commanding you today, shall be on your heart.
7 You shall teach them diligently to your sons and shall talk of them when you sit in your house and when you walk by the way and when you lie down and when you rise up.
8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontals on your forehead.
9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

Joshua 1
8 This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.

Psalm 1
1 How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stand in the path of sinners,
Nor sit in the seat of scoffers!
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
3 He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water,
Which yields its fruit in its season
And its leaf does not wither;
And in whatever he does, he prospers.

Psalm 119
9 How can a young man keep his way pure?
By keeping it according to Thy word.With all my heart I have sought Thee;
10 Do not let me wander from Thy commandments.
11 Thy word I have treasured in my heart,
That I may not sin against Thee.

Romans 12
2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.

Ephesians 6
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.
11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you will be able to stand firm against the schemes of the devil.
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places.
13 Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm.
14 Stand firm therefore, HAVING GIRDED YOUR LOINS WITH TRUTH, and HAVING PUT ON THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS,
15 and having shod YOUR FEET WITH THE PREPARATION OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE;
16 in addition to all, taking up the shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
17 And take THE HELMET OF SALVATION, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

2 Timothy 2
15 Be diligent [study] to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling [rightly dividing] the word of truth.

2 Timothy 3
16 All Scripture is inspired by God [God-breathed] and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
17 so that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

The Lord Himself is an example for us as well. How many times did He say, "it is written", as proof of what He was teaching us? Likewise, how many times did He rebuke the extra-Biblical musings of the Jews (e.g. their "traditions"), rightly claiming that they nullified the words of God, and therefore the purpose and will of God for us?

On last point, I've been posting on Christian forums for about 20 years now, and I've found that if you don't post some sort of Biblical support for your position, and someone has questions about your POV (whether it is an unorthodox or an even orthodox perspective, quite frankly), the very first thing that they typically ask for are the Biblical references in support your POV (so I've learned to post them from the get-go :)).

You're so right, and I am guilty of it. Some of things that I post is to make them think. But I am one of the guilty ones of going back and forth, and I hope I haven't did any harm to anyone, because that was not my intention. These are the last days. And we have got to stop playing and get serious. There is a war, good against evil. We have got to learn how to put on the full armor of God. Thanks Blain for your wisdom. God bless. I love you in Christ.

Yes I have learn to use scripture on this forum. I believe that if there was someone who was not able to read or hear the word of God, if they seek him, and find him, the Holy spirit will lead them into all truth. That's why Jesus sent of the comforter.

It's about standing the heat my friend it's reason for standing the heat. A kingdom divided against itself will not stand and if we are just here to argue and debate then I think we are here for the wrong reason. Think of this imagery for instance, say there is a small pond now say this pond is the people say also that a single drop of water falls into the pond and that single drop of water is an action or post we made here in cc. if this tiny drop of water even as small as it is falls into the pond it creates ripples that extend and grow affect more of the pond itself.

We scarcely understand exactly how far one word of encouragement can go and even more scarcely consider how our words here affect the hearts and souls of others and the depth of how it does as well.

Knowing the word of God ....and knowing God are to different things.

Paul's life shows us this...a prime example indeed. Paul knew the scriptures but untill he ment the author the scriptures were just that .,...scriptures. Praise God that by his son brought life to the scriptures.
We will learn more by the examples of the humble than the words of the proud.
Jesus knocks on our hearts not our heads. There are so many here that know far much more than me. I've been corrected, rejected, reflected, subjected, affected, but at the end of the day I rest in him. God how I love that.

May be but do we all abide by the forums, surely a verse or two could of been added to go along with the sites agenda in each section they have designed it to be, just saying.

Agreed, knowing God/being born again is an absolute prerequisite for knowing/properly understanding the word of God (from His POV anyway).

.........1 Corinthians 2
.........12 ..Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things
.........freely given to us by God,

.........13 ..which things we also speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining
.........spiritual thoughts with spiritual words.

.........14 ..But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot
.........understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.

.........15 ..But he who is spiritual appraises all things, yet he himself is appraised by no one.

.........16 ..For WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, THAT HE WILL INSTRUCT HIM? But we have the mind of Christ.

~Deut

.........1 Corinthians 1
.........18 The word of the Cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

There is no better thing than to watch these young saints debate scripture truth. Lord knows they could be doing a lot worse on some other sites. But saints let's not make it personal. We are asked to win the hearts not prove a point.
If it's not a salvation issue then it is up for debate.
There is one thing that is found of God here on Earth that is not found in heaven.........Bible study.
It's not needed in heaven. In fact revelation tells us that all remembering will be wiped from our minds along with our tears.
We are to study God's word to come to know him, trust and obey him this is faith not of yourselves but given by God.
Trusting in God also means to trust the Holy Spirit that he will do his work in the hearts of others as you speak the truth. No need to bully.
Your conduct is very important when representing God's word.......ask Moses. Just because it's o.t. doesn't give you a pass.
Learn to be controlled by the holy spirit. Use your gifts.
