Does 1 John 2 28 mean John expected Christ to come physically in the first century?

John, as all who believe Jesus Christ was being urgent in season and out. That is to say we should all live and speak as though Jesus will return today.........though He, Himself, gave us what to look for before His return.

Jesus is and was and is to come the Almighty- meaning that He has always been coming since resurrection.

1 John 2: KJV
28 "And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming."

Well since John did not know the time of the return of Jesus he would never have said anything to make people think that Jesus could not come in their life times... Also looking at the verse knowing that there will be a resurrection on the day of the return of Jesus, it is logical for John to tell the Christians of his time (and out times as well) to abide in Jesus so they would not be ashamed before Him at the time of His return,, because they will be resurrected on the day of His return and thus alive on the day of his return..

1 John 2:28 in lieu of 26-27 is a warning as to the wiles of the spirit of the antichrist singular, Satan not seen , who works in men seen, as antichrists.

Satan, not seen insists we need a man seen to teach us . Making the promise of the Holy Spirit not seen without effect.

A good example of the father of lies working in the affairs of men is shown in action in Mathew 16:22-23 . Peter was forgiven of his blasphemy in respect to the Son of man seen. Today that kind of blasphemy against the Holy Spirit not seen cannot be forgiven. We walk by faith, the unseen, not by sight as that seen .
