Hello everyone : )

I would like to know if there is a certain order to read the bible.
As a whole book. I have only read the Bible once. And I read it from start to finish. Genesis to Revelations.

As I started to read and complete each book.
I mistakenly, took the order of what I read. As the chronological order of (the)time.
I felt and viewed the Bible as, and like an historical newspaper.
I also decided to accept what I had read literally.

I had no real understanding about the history of the Bible. Or its writers.
The timeline of when each book was written. Or the time of which each book descibes.

I am wanting to read the Bible again.
But now that i know the bible is not put together in a chronological order.
I was wondering if there's a guide on how to read the bible?
Or is there a most preferred/recommended order, that one should read and study the Bible.

Any help and or suggestions will be most appreciated.

There is no such *guide* per se. But the logical place to start is with the Gospel of John and then go to the epistle to the Romans. That Gospel is designed to bring sinners to the Savior, while that epistle is designed to teach us the full truth about God's salvation.

Yup for someone who is new, those are definately the places to start with.

I also did the Genesis to Revelation.

But to be honest, in the beginning I jumped right to the book of revelation, all the apocalyptic stuff fascinated me, and i wanted to see how the book ends. :D

The most important thing is that you keep reading it, in a translation that uses language familiar to you.

There are many guides, helps, studies, devotionals, and other aids to reading, but in the end, you just need to keep reading the Bible.

The one suggestion I'll offer, when you feel like you are ready for some assistance, is a book called "How to Read the Bible For All It's Worth". It discusses genre and a few other issues that help the reader understand how to interpret what they read.

are destined to do...

When i started reading and studying the bible I would pick an O.T. book and a N.T. book and read through them at the same time....like O.T. in morning before work and N.T. at night before bed.....maybe Psalms for lunch.......You know the bible on CD? You can go through the whole bible like ever 80 or so hours.....I had a 1 hour drive to work and 1 hour back to the house and could literally hear the entire bible 24 to 26 times per year just while driving to work and back in the early 2000's

thank you for sharing this, dc - for me, just to keep it short, I've burned I think (4) Bibles that
were worn out - and hubby maybe (5) -
the hardest part was having to dispose of them and then The Lord said 'ashes to ashes', and so
we had no guilt, for they were so lovingly 'used' that we knew that He was saying, 'just give them
back to Me...- a Spiritual rite of passage'..,

AMEN...I have worn out one, had it rebound, wore it out again and super glued pages for years then bought anther one, wore it out and have been super gluing pages in for about 10 or so years now........it is a Cambridge Berkshire Leather KJ black letter edition and wide margins for word studies to be written in....I was going to buy a new one in AU a few years back...I had paid 185 for it in 1995 and a new one in AU was almost $400.....so....super glue is cheap HAHA

Yep,I read from beginning to end too. Now years later some books I read and don't know how many times(lost count). I didnt notice at first but Job based on genealogies in scripture of his friends were born before Moses and so Genesis then I think should be after Job,lol...

I'm still waiting for the NUT bible to come out, the new universal translation.

It's based on the Texas Deceptus and being translated by the Dallas Theological Seminary

A lot of the data in OT books you will find in other OT books as well as in NT books.
They correlate, corroborate, and add more information to each other.
A basic example of this is the ten horned beast in Daniel 7 appears in Revelation 13, but with the added description having 7 heads.

You will, however, have to read and reread all the books to get a better understanding and clearer picture of what is going on in its entirety as the Lord in Revelation 10:7 describes the Word as His mystery which currently is not fully comprehended.

Revelation 10:7 But in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he shall begin to sound, the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets.

Always pray and ask for God's Holy Spirit to guide you as you read and you won't go wrong. I call the Bible the Never Ending Story because you are never finished reading it.

My husband and I read it together last time we went front to back and this time I am opening it and what ever book it lands on is the book we read to the end and then open it again to where it opens and that will be the book until we get them all read my husband keeps a spread sheet so we know what we have and haven't read...

I learn something new every time I read it... I have even said to myself I know I've read this before but why does it seem like new info now? Always learning something and that's a good thing. Keeping in touch with God on a daily basis helps keep us close to Him.

Have fun which ever way you decide to read it. There certainly isn't a wrong way to read the Bible.

Congrats on reading the Bible all the way through! I would begin again in Genesis. Btw, I believe the Bible is in chronological order as events are played through human history.
