Being Watchful And Thankful,

Paul is trying to reassure his followers that they need
to be always faithful and always vigilant that we do not
stray from God even a little bit. There is an old saying
"death by a thousand cuts" which means in battle you
not only have to watch for the largest weapon because
it is always evident. But a little cut here and there now
and then accumulates and a person gets gangrene in
the field of battle and dies. Moral corruption is rarely
one big step but rather one little step at a time. That is
why we need to remain watchful. We need to examine
our conscience often and correct ourselves when it is
necessary. We do that not to please God but to keep
ourselves on a straight line and in holiness.
