I from the UK.
It’s quite strange really, austerity means I haven’t had a pay increase for
10 years apart from the occasional 1% here and there.
But during that period I went from full time to part time employment.
I’m actually not much worse off, as during that same period of time the rate that you
start to pay tax has been cut on a few occasions. I also pay less National
Insurance.

I hardly pay any tax now so my net pay has increased the last few years.
Plus we’ve had a few years where clothes and food have been very cheap.
Although the food bill has started creeping up lately.

Anyway I wondered what anyone else in the US and the UK thinks.
For the UK I think the biggest factor is probably housing costs. I’m not sure
austerity has either helped or hindered with that one, if anything housing
and rents might have been higher without austerity.

Is it just all a sign of the times.

I feel sorry for those with Housing problems. Fortunately I paid up the Mortgage on my flat some time ago. My only outlay
is for any repairs or decoration required. With rented property these should be paid by the Landlord or Council
I have a relatively modest private pension in addition to the state pension. Because of this although retired I still pay income tax.
The only benefits I receive are the annual fuel allowance and free London travel

Most of my pension goes on bills and food. The bills include £125 a month in council tax. For me its a matter of living within my means

Here in the United States I think housing is one of the biggest expenses.

There was a presidential campaign slogan in my country it says "If there's no corrupt, there are no poor"

I believe poverty is result of corruption and also very high budget of US military.

What's funny.......not haha, but sad funny.........is that the UN itself is responsible for the majority of extreme poverty around the world. Especially in Third World Countries. Their corruption surpasses the corruption of the majority of Socialist/Communist Nations, and a bunch of the Dictatorships.

The UN needs to leave the US

The US needs to leave the UN

I’ve seen lots of people who don’t live within their means.
They spend hundreds on smoking and alcohol then say they can’t afford to
eat and pay bills.

Then there are people who keep having more and more children but wonder why
they are getting poorer and poorer.

Then there are also the genuine cases where people through no fault of their
own, do end up in poverty. A lot of that does seem to be linked to housing
costs and fuel bills.

Not always, sometimes people just don’t live within their means.
One of my cousins was an alcohol, you could have given him a million
pound and it would have all gone on good times, booze and partying.
