I truly find this amusing. I thought we put this idea of a flat earth to bed a few hundred years ago. There is a lot of evidence and proof against a flat earth. Here are some thoughts. We have many pictures and eyewitness accounts of astronauts saying the earth is a sphere. You can see the shadow of the earth on the moon during a lunar eclipse and it is a sphere. Plus there are no flat planets in our solar system. My favorite thing is the gravity issue. Gravity would be completely different if the earth was flat. Gravity pulls towards the center of the earth, so gravity would be normal in the center but it would be really hard to walk toward the edge because gravity would pull you back. Also, earth's water would pull toward the center so the edge would be a desert and the center would be overrun with water.

I'm not a flatearther, though I bet there are some people commenting in this thread about how dumb the flat Earth idea is, but who believe the Earth is around 5,000 years old...

Forget it, Waggles, you are giving facts, which to them is not a basis on which to make an honest argument.
There is a bloke, "hi I'm Steve," on YouTube with his own channel, Think About It, who has pretty well made believing in
a flat earth paradigm a salvation issue … so if you do not believe in a flat earth you are part of the Luciferian globalist
conspiracy that will cheat you of salvation.

And yet I remember way back in first year high school (1968) when we all came back to our high school after dark to look through a real astronomy telescope that our science teacher had set up. That night I peered through the eyepiece and behold I observed Jupiter and several of her moons. Beautiful, astounding, a true wonder.
And you know it was pretty obvious that Jupiter and her moons were orbs, just like our moon is.

Let everyone understand, the agenda of science is to overthrow Christianity! The seeds of that movement start right here by denying what the Bible says about the shape of the earth!
Who’s side are you on? The side of God or the side of Satan?

It is in a similar way that people argue a 6000 year old earth is a salvation issue.
Funny how I do not read anything about a flat Earth nor a young Earth as integral to salvation in the NT
The scriptures in my NT teach me of faith in Christ Jesus, repentance towards God, water baptism by full immersion with baptism in the Holy Spirit and that these signs shall follow them that believe (and to walk in the Spirit).

Nothing whatsoever about a flat Earth versus a spherical Earth.
As for Genesis 1 yes this is truth and sets out the order by which Jesus created the Earth and all that is within it: but again
Genesis 1 does not preach an Earth that is only 6,000 years old.

The bible does not state specifically that the earth is flat or round. I really don't see how believing that the earth is flat would prevent you from receiving salvation or believing that it is round would insure it. In the grand scheme of things it is not a big deal to believe either way. Personally, I'm trending towards round.

earth = ground ball.png
from google translate
in a different language

earth means "ground - ball" (from copy and pasting Chinese symbols) one of the oldest known civilization

ball is round
therefore, the earth is round

ever since language is invented,

now how did they know that the earth is round when they invent language?

Some people claim that a mathematical derivation using the Bible leads them to the conclusion that the Earth is of the order of 6,000 years old.

This mathematical derivation is of course fallacious, and this is easily demonstrated by considering that the same mathematical derivation (purely using the Bible) would yield the exact same answer in 10,000 years as it would have 1,500 years ago.

This is another great example of how some people interpret the Bible in a wider context than intended.

Other examples, including the one above, are:

- The Earth is of the order of 5,000 years old.
Because mathematical derivation using the Bible says so.
- An unmarried couple shouldn't live together.
All because thousands of years ago it was traditional (not Biblical) for a man to build a house on the side of his in-law's.

I can't be bothered to go on, but my posts in other threads outline several.

Obviously the big one, the big daddy of man made pseudo-religious control is sex before marriage.

If a mathematical derivation of the age of the Earth yields the same result regardless of the passage of time, it is obviously based on false or unreliable information.

For example, if I used the Bible to calculate the age of the Earth and get 6,000 years NOW, then in 10,000 years I should get 16,000 years.

There is no indication of the extra 'bits' you need to add to actually get to the present day.
People think they're clever conducting some derivation using the Bible, but their own stupidity leads them to believe the Earth is of the order of 6,000 years old.

There is other nonsense that people come out with because they think they've discovered something numerical hidden in the Bible...

...only 144,000 people go to heaven...
...the year that Jesus returns...

All a result of people being so thick they don't know they're being thick.

So how far away is our Sun?
93,000,000 miles? 9,300,000 miles? 9,300 miles? 93 miles?
How big then is our Sun? - tennis ball size? - beach ball size? - a mile wide?
Thus Galileo amd Copernicus and all of astronomy is wrong and the whole solar system revolves around our Earth.
How come the other observable planets are not conical with dome firmaments?
