Ephesians 4:31,32
Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice: 32And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you.

Colossians 3:13
Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.

Matthew 6:14
For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you:

Thank God our Father in Christ Jesus, that He has given us the ability to forgive each other as He has forgiven us.

Can anyone here explain forgiveness and why it is essential to our Christian faith?

Jesus showed grace and mercy by dying for us on the cross to pay for our sins. When we are gracious to those who offend us and are merciful, we are following Jesus example. He is the teacher, leader and Lord and we are his servants and students.

My understanding is not so great that I could delineate a good definition of forgivign but the Spirit has taught me we are forgiven in such abundance that we have it also to spreaqd to others. Knowing our forgiveness we know to forgive others or we will lose what hs been given each of us.

If you want to understand best forgiveness, tht is forgetting the sins of others agaist us meditste on our Savior in HIS GREAT AGONY ON THE CROSS CRYING TO THE Father, "Forgive them for they know not what they do." It comes to humbling all to understand this.

Forgiveness is the very thing that defines Christianity and distinguishes it above all other faiths and philosophies. God Himself humbled Himself before His own creation in order to pay the ultimate price for our transgressions. Why? Because only He could.
