Question...What does resting in Him mean to you?

To me, it means casting all fears, anxieties, uncertainties aside and trusting in God. It's like the greatest assurance for when you feel troubled about something: You've got an all powerful God looking out for you. So you feel like things are going to work out. Things will be okay because God is with you.

How comforting.

I'm learning to rest by default... In other words, after I've tried everything: thinking positive, having 'more faith', speaking words of affirmation, writing promises of God in my journal, fasting & praying, repenting of sin, etc., etc., I just give up. Not that all those things aren't necessary, they are! But when it doesn't seem like anything is working, when I'm anxious or lack strength, the Lord tells me to rest in Him. Like surrender every part of me, mainly my "logic" and "reasoning", and cast all my emotions to Him, and I find I fall deeply into Him in my heart. In those moments He gives me His identity of me and the weak, fretful me disappears for a time. I'm literally being kept by God. That's the rest He is giving to me. He's making me trust Him.

Wow, yes, i too have tried all those things, and yes Phil 4:4-9 encourages those things, but still you are right it is a surrendering, kinda giving in and letting go. Hard to get out of the mind, and emotions...for sure. I am not there just yet all the time. He too is making me do the same with regards to trust.

So yes like what you and stranger said we are His fully, and when we "trust and know" it, it is so peaceful.

I love this verse...
"Be still, and know that I am God..." - Psalm 46:10

I think that's what resting in him means. To just be still and think about him. So I do this by sitting down or laying on my bed and closing my eyes and talking to him either verbally or with my thoughts. Sometimes when life becomes too much I just have to be still and remember that he is God. I am not. I need to let him take over at those moments when I feel weak, upset, angry, hurt, bitter etc.

I also really like this one
"You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore." - Psalm 16:11

Whenever I rest in his presence by doing the above, I tend to start smiling and feeling better. It's sort of like when a child is cold and their parent comes to tuck them in for the night. That's how I feel like when I talk to God. I am comforted and I finally feel the fullness of joy that I cannot get from anyone or anything else.

I think that is what resting in the Lord means. What a great thread idea, Sis! :giggle:

Well tyou. ♡. I appreciate thinking about you calming yourself in His presence. I like that you find His comfort. Psalms 16:11 is one of my fav verses, Sis.

Question...What does resting in Him mean to you?
It means Proverbs 3:5-6 to me :)
To trust in His ways.
To surrender to Him.
To know and believe that He gives us restoration and the Living Water for spiritual nourishment.

Also, to be patient and know that He is in control ❤️

Resting is hard when you think you can do everything. When you know you can't do everything, resting becomes a lot easier. And the more you find out you can't do, the easier it becomes.

Oh man, have I had to learn that th4 hard way, more than once. It is freeing, resting, when we realize it is futile without Him.
