WHEAT ... v ... TARES

Matthew 13:24) Another parable put he forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field:
25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way.
26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also.
27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?
28 He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?
29 But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them.
30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

We know that the "wheat" are the children of God. Those who believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior, and the "tares" are those who do not believe. They are the lost of the world.

WHEAT: John 3:17) 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

TARES: 18) 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

WHEAT: Matthew 24:13) 13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

TARES: 10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.
11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

WHEAT:
John 14:15) 15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Matthew 12:47 Then one said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to speak with thee.
48 But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren?
49 And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
50 For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother.

John 3:16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Hebrews 11:6) But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Romans 10:8) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

The choice between "wheat" and "tares" is ours. The choice to believe in Jesus Chrsit as Lord and Savior is ours. The Disciples, and other followers of Christ at the time of His Ministry here on earth, had the eyewitness evidence/experience which surely made it easier to believe in Him.

Christ recognized this, and even spoke of this with regards to those (us) who would come after, and still believe.

John 17:17) Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

John 20:29) Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

The "tares" will be gathered up and they will spend eternity apart from the presence of God, and will suffer for all eternity! Their decision to deny Christ, and thus, deny God Himself cost them eternal life. Please do not choose to join the "tares," rather become a child of the Living God, and a disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ. Jesus told us what to do:

"ONLY BELIEVE"
John 5:24) Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

God bless and keep you and yours.......

Wheat and Tares was strictly a 1st century "phenomena". The apostate Jews (tares) of that time (rejecting Jesus and his apostles") were cast out of the kingdom of Israel.

(Mat 8:11 I tell you, many will come from the east and west to share the banquet with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven)

(Mat 8:12 but the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." )

(Gal 4:30 But what does the scripture say? "Throw out the slave woman and her son, for the son of the slave woman will not share the inheritance with the son" of the free woman. )

Just as Christians (the wheat) are but a subset of the general population, I believe the tares are as well (and not the total remainder). The passage about one taken, one left behind, to a place where the vultures feed is not about Christians, but the truly evil. The wheat (Christians) are taken from the general population, and out of those who remain the tares (the truly wicked) are then also taken. But there are still some left behind who are neither wheat or tare.

Thanks for your responses. They made me curious, so I did some searching.......

WHEAT & TARES ATTEND CHURCH - Internet Bible College

(excerpt)

In the parable of the wheat and tares, Jesus referred to saved believers as wheat and every unsaved person as tares. Tares include unsaved churchgoers. In fact, there are too many tares in the Church. Matthew 13:30 symbolically reveals tares will in future be burnt in hell. In Greek, the word “tares” is “zizanion” which means “a particularly undesirable weed resembling wheat and possessing a seed which is poisonous”. 1

The Parable of Wheat and Tares | Christ Bible Church
(excerpt)

The interpretation then is found in Matthew 13:36-42
Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, “Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field.”
He answered and said to them: “He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man. The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one. The enemy who sowed them is the devil, the harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are the angels. Therefore as the tares are gathered and burned in the fire, so it will be at the end of this age. The Son of Man will send out His angels, and they will gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and those who practice lawlessness, and will cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Wheat And Tares - Bible study

(excerpt)

The wheat and tares parable is fairly easy to understand, even before Jesus' explanation. However, there are some surprising lessons for us to grasp onto and apply to our everyday lives. I'll make the representations clear by adding this list.
Wheat and Tares Parable Symbolism:
  • The farmer (sower) = Jesus, the Son of man
  • The field = the world
  • The good seed = true children of the Kingdom
  • The tares (weeds) = children of Satan
  • The enemy = Satan, i.e. the devil
  • The harvest = end of the Church age
  • The harvesters (reapers) = God's good angels

These are just three. Now, there may be some that agree with you, dunno, but it seems to me that I am not the only one who believes what I posted applies to the Church today.

Anyway, thanks for your comments.......

An interesting concept that is blindly overlooked...

God BEGINS TO DEAL WITH THE TARES FIRST before he gathers the wheat

That totally flies in the face of the pre-trib "rapture"

  • The harvest = end of the Church age
Incorrect, the harvest was the end of the Jewish/Israel age.

John warned the tares:

(Mat 3:7 But when he saw many Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, "You offspring of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the coming wrath? )

John said the axe was already laid at the root of the "trees" ready to be drawn back for the felling strike.

(Mat 3:10 Even now the ax is laid at the root of the trees, and every tree that does not produce good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire.)

Jesus stated the harvest was already ripe in his day:

(John 4:35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest ).

There are no tares in Christ's kingdom, you are either born again or not, in or out.

There is no need to gather any unbelievers out of His kingdom.

(Mat 13:39 and the enemy who sows them is the devil. The harvest is the end of the age, and the reapers are angels. )

(1 Cor 10:11 These things happened to them as examples and were written for our instruction, on whom the ends of the ages have come. )

(Heb 9:26 He then would have had to suffer often since the foundation of the world; but now, once at the end of the ages, He has appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of Himself. )

It helps if a person uses an accurate translation.

Matt 13:27-29 . . And the slaves of the landowner came and said to him:
Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?
And he said to them: An enemy has done this!' And the slaves said to him:
Do you want us, then, to go and gather them up? But he said: No; lest while
you are gathering up the tares, you may root up the wheat with them.

Allowing the tares to remain active for now is a practical consideration
because many of them are very important to public health and safety; most
especially firemen, doctors, dentists, nurses, bankers, electrical power, gas
stations, supermarkets, water and sewer, public transportation, farming,
ranching, etc.

Just imagine the panic and chaos that would result were those people
removed before Christ returns to take the reins. The world would quite
literally, and quite suddenly, be thrown back to the stone age. And I shudder
to think what would happen if all the world's nuclear reactors suddenly lost
substantial numbers of their control room operators.

Wheat and Tares was strictly a 1st century "phenomena". The apostate Jews (tares) of that time (rejecting Jesus and his apostles") were cast out of the kingdom of Israel.
This is incorrect and there is nothing in Scripture which supports this assumption. Wheat and tares will exist in Christendom between the first and second comings of Christ.

WHEAT = GENUINE BELIEVERS WHO ARE CHILDREN OF GOD

TARES = PROFESSING BUT UNSAVED PEOPLE WHO BELIEVE THEY ARE CHRISTIANS

The problem with your interpretation is that one would have to both believe and accept the TWO GOSPEL ideology. Now, you may well do this, but I do not, nor will I ever.

I do thank you for your comments. I do not accept that you are the Final Authority on the interpretation of Scripture however, just as I am not. At best, we come to the determination of what we believe based on Study, Prayer, and the guidance of the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit, who is our Teacher.

Tares is them what tries to look and sound like Christians but are not. They is pretenders and not contenders. Some will be so good at imitating Christians that only the Lord Himself will be able to distinguish them from the genuine Christians.

Tares are religious but lost.

Yes and sadly, the TARES seem to out number the WHEAT by far. :(

Amen! There are genuine Christians and there are "nominal" Christians. There are genuine believers and there are make believers. Jesus was able to distinguish Judas Iscariot (imitating Christian) from the remaining 11 disciples who were (genuine Christians) and even referred to Judas as a devil! (John 6:70) Although to the remaining 11 disciples, Judas looked like the real deal.

No, what most are failing to do is understand the 1st century "Israel" context of Jesus' other parables in connection with the "wheat and tares".

The wedding parable, the vineyard parable and the wheat and tare parable have all the same motif and context - Jews/Israel and rejection of Jesus.

(Mat 21:33 Hear another parable: There was a certain landowner who planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a winepress in it and built a tower. And he leased it to vine dressers and went into a far country. )

The above is about the then present kingdom (vineyard) established by God of Israel/Jews.

(Mat 22:2 The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son)

(Mat 22:3 and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come. )

In the above the wedding relates to the Jews/Israel.

To divorce the above parables from the parable of the wheat and tares is to rip it out of context.

We know Jesus was speaking to Israel "the sons of the kingdom".

(Mat 8:12 but the sons of the kingdom will be thrown out into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.")

Peter stated that the "tares" would be cut off from the people the "wheat":

(Acts 3:22 For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The LORD your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. )

(Acts 3:23 And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people )

I was making a funny....as I will joke with Little Elephant and yes meant to be a holy terror...just playing with words....but when you are wheat you are among the breakfast of Champions Jesus being the greatest one of all.
