Here's the deal. Jesus did not come to teach us to be holy. He came to make us holy.
In the parable of the virgins it is "who and what "they are as a major component. Virgin means pure, holy, set aside for 1 man, undefiled.
So,all that belongs to the born again believer. You are MADE a virgin via new birth/new heart.
Now,the walk.
In the walk,stumbling comes.
Equipping helps.
Interesting the Holy Spirit is our helper.
When we see the word "overcomer" it is mainly sin that they overcame.
Jesus said "your starting place is pentecost, don't even think of starting your walk outside the anointing. My example of meeting temptation was the way you meet it. In the baptism of/in the Holy Spirit."
You get that baptism like Jesus did,Paul did,and they in acts 10 did,and go forward.
Now you have the same Holy Spirit that operated thriugh the apostles and Jesus to raise the dead, heal the sick, cast out demons and walk pure.
Jesus resisted the devil under the infilling of power. So did Paul.
If you fail it is on you,of course.
If you fail, you have defiled your temple.
So clean it,get free and vow to never let that happen again.
Like i said before. Sin is the poop in the brownie. "But it is so small amount they will never taste it,or know it"
Nobody would knowingly eat it.
And yet what makes us sit up to that table?
What were the philistines after????
Look real close.
Sampson' hair?
His power?
His wife?
His family?
His money?
His wisdom?
Nope none of the above.

HIS TESTIMONY.
That is satans job. To rob you of your testimony.
That is why he died the way he did. In his re aquired glory/anointing.
You can not live Holy or fulfill your calling/office/destiny outside the anointing.
(Pssst, sexual sin got him and many, many men of God)
The flesh is to be crucified. Killed.
Sauls sin was in saving a little for the future. But was commanded to KILL THEM ALL.
That means all flesh.
That means all OUR flesh.
Kill it.
Bingo. Walk in Holiness

Isn't this in essence how a person knows they have the Holy Spirit of GOD? When the Spirit of GOD lives in us, the Spirit corrects us, shows us what is sinful and leads us on the path of rightousness. The Spirit of GOD shows us the path to escape the temptations of Satan.
Not one human being that has ever been born can remain free of sin on their own accord, you cannot earn salvation by following the law, even John the Baptist was a sinner and he was the most incredible of men.
If you are unrepentant in a life of continuing sin, you should continue to knock because being embodied by the Holy Spirit of GOD makes the very act of sinning regrettable. This is why after we receive the Holy Spirit of GOD we are in more danger of the unforgivable sin. The Holy Spirit gives a person a knowledge beyond that of those without it, once it embodies you, you no longer wonder about GOD or Jesus, you know.

"They overcame by the blood of the lamb, and the word of their testimony, and they loved not their lives unto death"

They died

"You have not resisted unto the shedding of your blood in your striving against sin,"

We have to get violent against sin.

I see two different camps:

1. How much can I get get away with and still be considered a Christian?

2. How holy and Christlike can I be? I want to do all I can to please Him.

Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all [men], and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:

Hebrews 12:14 Follow peace with all [men], and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
The first point may be a license for people to sin because God has grace and mercy and he forgives if you repent ,but you can still sin and repent again ,and there is a cycle there .You may see yourself as a sinner and not able to win against sinning,so you don't grow and don't go anywhere. But there is assurance that you are still saved which gives you peace

In the second point we see ourselves killing the flesh, holy spirit led and doing things for the Kingdom of God .The bad side is that you may be in fear of losing your salvation or you may not feel worthy enough and you put too much focus on works.

Yes, I believe we must seek the sweet spot of living in blessed peace and assurance whilst till having a burning desire to be all we can be for Jesus. I believe Jesus wants us to let Him place us there. God does not require perfection and is always ready and willing to forgive, but I still want to do the best I can with the aid of His Spirit within.

Below is an excerpt from my first book that should help answer these questions.

Are there reasons for moral standards? Who should dictate these standards? Are morals absolute or relative? Before we address these questions, we must investigate our belief in God. If we have absolutely no belief in God, we will probably find very few answers. The further away we get from God the more we, in society, begin to resemble tribal barbaric pagans.

Let's address sin. Sin is transgression against God's law. โ€œWhosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: For sin is the transgression of the lawโ€ (I John 3:4). It is usually sin when we transgress others, but it is always sin when we transgress God. God wants us to be sinless mainly for our own sakes. God knows us and the society we live in; we will suffer greatly for sin's sake. God understands our spirits. He knows what gives us peace and happinessโ€”even when we don't. This shows us God's goodness and love. Those that count themselves among the faithful, should strive to remain sinless for God's sake, for ourselves, our families and our communities. Even our nation and the whole world can benefit from obedient Christians. The Lord called us the โ€œsalt of the earthโ€ and the โ€œlight of the worldโ€ (see Matthew 5:13-16).

We can therefore answer the above questions as follows: Morals are important for peace of mind and happiness, also for peaceful coexistence with others. If we believe in God, He should be the absolute authority on how we practice moral uprightness. God's word claims that morals are absolute.

I may get bombed for this.
But I can only speak from my experience and my position at the time.

I was sexually immoral in my early Christian years.
There were many facets for this.
Now I'm not excusing what I was doing.
Even during this period the guilt and condemnation overwhelmed me.

I had a few partners during this period. I do say at the time given my mental and emotional state just dating was I big step for me.

When it got to a sexual level what was beautiful was now ugly and I had to run a mile.

I have no excuse for my behaviour, even today I shudder at my behaviour and still find myself praying that for those I hurt that God will heal them and that they would forgive me.

Not to let me off the hook, but to get me off their hook as such.
Unforgiveness is a big issue in anyone's life.
It chains you and binds you.
I do not want anyone to suffer with this.

As I reflected on my actions during a period of time.
Why did I do what I did?

My childhood was shocking.
Muslim background, born out of wedlock.
My mum was on the abortion table but did not carry it through.
As a result she was rejected by her dad.
Therefore she rejected me as I was growing up.
Constant severe beatings, the names she used to call me would make a sailor blush.
Told the family that kept in contact with her and my brother's that I was homosexual and had AIDS.

She through me out at the age of 14.
I was fostered by a Christian family only to be sexually abused for the next 4 years by my foster dad. I love you as he would say.
I even lied to the police when they made a visit.
My foster mum knew what was happening, he had been sent down for child sexual abuse. Goodness knows how I got through social services.

So she asked me to say no.
Truth is that I had the following choices.
Say yes then he would go down again and she would be left alone with her son. She told me when I asked whether he was abusing their son with an adamant no.
Then I would have to go back to my mum or into a home.

I have had other experiences of being sexually abused as well.

Now in a sense I can't excuse my sexual immorality at the time but I can understand why.

I just wanted closeness and to feel accepted and loved.
So that was my go to.

You would have thought I had learned my lesson.

But God had to heal me of all the above (which he did but after I stepped back from this lifestyle)

For me it was the cause of the affect that needed to be dealt with.
Not the other way around.

I carried that guilt and shame for years.
What can set us free from this?

Knowing that God loves us as much as he loves Jesus.

Our past does not have to define our future but with God our past can be used to define it in the correct way.

I wish the first church I went to thought and taught this way.

Therein lies the problem.

I anticipate some bombs coming in.
But even though this thread is about sexual immorality we need to understand that the things we do that need dealing with are not limited to sexual immorality.

I will add that I have not seen evidence that most people believe we can continue sinning and living as people do without Christ

I don't understand why things like that are even inserted into the conversation on salvation when that is so

why do people have to continually try to somehow SUBVERT what people say?

for that matter, that subversion goes to both sides
Agreed, true of all of us.

Not seen anyone on this site who say that.

What I have seen is though some say we can stop sinning full stop.
