If people aren’t born again then they didn’t have the Holy Spirit to begin with. But this leads me to ask, does the Holy Spirit grieve people who do not know the Lord?
As a child begins with a clean slate, it's hard for me to believe that God will not convict that child at least after the first sin. From time to time, God convicts even the unbeliever. But they ignore it, I think all Christians will admit that while they were still unbeliever they felt convictions for some things they did. I still remember my first sin. I was a child. And I knew exactly it was a sin, and not to be done. What convicted me but Holy Spirit? Yet I did not get saved until I was 23... I don't know... I might have missed the mark here.

Do you think lying to the HS grieved or quenched Him, the Holy Spirit? Not being confrontational just a thought that came to mind in response to your point.
Did it grieve him or make him angry? I think there is a difference?

What it does is GRIEVE YOU as well

I can speak from experience I just lose all JOY in life if that happens. Lose happiness, lose joy, lose peace, lose love, just feel terrible all around!

Do not superimpose human abilities and disabilities and emotions to God.

God does not sulk and become angry and lose joy for what a human does. God who knew all your deeds and thoughts before the foundations of the world is not about to be surprised by what you do today.

It is a covenant/contract; you break the covenant, you separate yourself from the contract.
The terms of the contract can be summarized; God is holy, you therefore must be holy.
