David prayed that a guard may be put on his mouth to prevent him from saying things he should not- Psalms 141:3

For the times when we seem unable to get our mouth under control, would you consider wearing an actual lock? A lock for the mouth.

Who knows all the marriages and friendships that could be saved because of such a device?

The locks would be fashionable and come in whatever colours that happen to be trending at the time.

When to wear it:

1) As soon as you feel like you are about to lose your cool.

2) In anticipation of a confrontation with a difficult individual

3)When you wake up in the morning and you feel irritable for absolutely no reason at all

Well, what do you guys think?

Psa 141:3 Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.

I do not think David was wanting an actual physical guard for his mouth but asking the LORD to guard his mouth by His power.

Jas 3:2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
Jas 3:5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
Jas 3:6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.
Jas 3:7 For every kind of beasts, and of birds, and of serpents, and of things in the sea, is tamed, and hath been tamed of mankind:
Jas 3:8 But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

But the tongue is the most unruliest and sinful part of our body, and if we can tame the tongue then we can bridle the whole body and not sin, and become unto a perfect man, but no person can tame the tongue.

So how do we tame the tongue to go on to becoming like Christ if no person can tame the tongue.

That might be why the saints speak in tongues for God has to tame the tongue.

And if they say tongues is not for today or not everyone will speak in tongues then how do they tame the tongue the most unruliest part of the body to be like Christ if no person can tame the tongue.

So it must be God that has to tame the tongue.

Words begin as thoughts. Should one have an electric shock applied to them for wrong thinking? Before they may choose to put an actual lock on their mouth to stop them from saying what one may believe they should not?

People who say the wrong things serve to cause other people to think about what they said. And "wrong" is purely subjective.
Free thought, free speech. Both are inextricably linked except in a fascist dictatorship. And even there it is impossible to control what people think. That they do think at all is a blessing. That they say the wrong things without thinking is a lesson in itself. For all of us.

People are entitled to speak. It doesn't mean anyone is obligated to care what they have to say.

I've seen women with the bullock septum piercing. Can't imagine someone with a lock piercing their lips and closing them together. Probably won't have to imagine a picture like that is there ever is a celebrity or musician that shows up with such a thing on their face. Then it'll be a new trend on young peoples faces from coast to coast in less than a week.

I feel as if i already invisibly wear one of these.
I'm not a fan of confrontation at all. I'm more of a peace keeper because I do not like conflict. I know that makes me seem weak.

Although perhaps you are right in that maybe it would save a lot of marriages and friendships. The world would definitely be a different place.

It already is isn't it?
Political Correctness is a type of lock on the mouth. People can be written up at work, ordered to undergo a sensitivity training course that addresses the subject of whatever they were judged to have said that is not acceptable, so that they may retain employment.
Compliments are no longer innocent statements that bolster someones self esteem, they're able instead to be judged as sexual harassment.
Refusing to concede a man dressed as a woman deserves to be addressed by the pronoun of their choice is considered a symptom of fear of that type of person. One must attend classes then that train them not to see cross dressing men that way.
Or, if one's religious values deny concession to Transgenderism and its language, again we're tasked with learning not to think that way. Compromise religious values or lose your job.

The underlying message, don't say anything that stands to offend any one.
There is no Constitutional right to not be offended.

2) In anticipation of a confrontation with a difficult individual
my default strategy is avoidance. running away from problems like these.

Considering anything you say could have the ability to offend someone for whatever reason, yes, very much the underlying message.
Unless you really know a person very well, and even then, it seems there are times we find out we really didn't know that person at all.
Communication can't be open like it used to be.

I do admire quiet leaders . who know when to say nothing. just listen. or stare even. use body language. people can read your mind sometimes just by your eyes and so on.

Kim82 says it is a mouth guard that's required, and MattforJesus says it's the tongue, but I have Old Testament proof that it is the lips!

Exodus 6:12 But Moses said to the Lord, “Behold, the people of Israel have not listened to me. How then shall Pharaoh listen to me, for I am of uncircumcised lips?”

Exodus 6:30 But Moses said to the Lord, “Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips. How will Pharaoh listen to me?”

So if uncircumcised lips are the problem, a circumcision of the lips is the obvious cure! :)

It's quite good for couples not to say everything that's on their mind, and instead to take it to the Lord in prayer.

If more spouses start talking about what's really, really, really on they minds, I'm telling you there would be even more people divorcing.

A spouse who thinks their partner is old and unattractive. Would you recommend they say all that? Or is the person to put a lock on their mouth, and instead find something nice to say to their spouse? But in their prayer closet they can tell it all: Dear Lord, you know I no longer find my spouse attractive, and you can see that I'm finding myself being attracted to other people. Lord, help me, Jesus!

If you have a friend who did you wrong in the past, you've forgiven the friend but if truth be told you haven't quite gotten over it. While you're praying for God to heal the hurt, what do you do at every given opportunity? You bring up the issue to the friend? Or do you put a lock on your mouth?

When someone gets on your last nerve, do you dig deep for something positive to say, or do you speak your mind and let them know what you're really thinking?

You do have those with poor communication skills, and yes they do need to discuss certain stuff. Not in a shouting, angry manner, but peacefully and orderly. With a counsellor if necessary.

But really, if we don't have words of love, hope and charity, beautiful words of life, to speak to our spouse/friends/family or even a stranger then we may as well all just shut our mouths and the world would be a better place.
