Those who are saved are predestined to be saved, right? If so, does that mean someone who is saved should not pray for the salvation of someone who is not saved?

Please explain your opinion on this...

Also, what is "predestination" based upon?"

Only God knows who the Elect are. We don't. As far as we are concerned everybody is potentially elect (unless they are Apostate, meaning they once served God heartily but have fallen away). There is nothing wrong with praying for all of these above. In fact you should !!

Since God not part of the time/space continuum He already knows who will be brought in and who won’t. Unfortunately many won’t.

Should you pray for those that are unsaved? Of course. Let God be God and you be you.

Hello LeeLoving, first off, here are a couple of Q & A's for you to consider.

Q. How do we know if someone has been predestined to eternal life?
A. We know when/if they come to saving faith in Jesus Christ.

Q. How does someone come to saving faith in Christ?
A. Faith comes from hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ .. Romans 10:17.

We cannot know who will and who will not come to saving faith, so we witness and preach the Gospel to everyone. ~Arminianism

We cannot know who the elect are until they've come to saving faith, so we witness and preach the Gospel to everyone. ~Calvinism

God bless you!

~Deut
p.s. - I do not believe that there is a better answer to your OP question, "should Christians pray for those who are not saved", than this one, by the Calvinist Pastor/Theologian Charles H. Spurgeon. Personally, I will always be EXTREMELY grateful, and thankful to the Lord, for the many who prayed for my salvation.

I can't see why not.
I think this a troll post. A screw driver to the gums of Calvinists.

Are you reading the entire chapter?
I don't know if I've read all of Romans 8, but I think "predestination" being based upon the will of God the Father was sort of what I arrived at reading Romans 8:29 (if that is the right verse).

It’s always good to read the chapter you can see what the theme is of certain passages. Also, gotquestions.org is a very reliable source if you have trouble understanding something.

Are you saying "predestination" is not based upon the will of God the Father? Or are you disagreeing with "predestination"?

I never said either. I was merely giving advice.

Thanks for the advice then. I might have gotten into trouble with gotquestions.org in the past though (though I might still use them in the future, but maybe more carefully, if need be).

There is no substitute for reading the Bible yourself and the Holy Spirit teaching you. This would be the first port of call in my opinion.
Just remember that sites are written by people and people have biases. Why risk it? Go to the true Source.
It is very hard, once you have learned the wrong thing, to uproot and tear down these strongholds.

But the person they pray for that is unsaved at the time how do they know they are not predestined to salvation for people do not confess Jesus at the same age, some young, some middle age, some old, for we know not all people confess Christ as soon as they first are at the age of accountability.

And how do you know who is predestined for you cannot go by their actions even if they are against the Church which a good example is Paul who persecuted the Church and wasted it but he got saved.

For whether of the occult, atheist, another religion, against the Church you do know if they are predestined or not so pray.

I believe we have a choice for many are called but few are chosen so God does the calling and choosing on earth, but nobody would have gotten to the truth unless God intervened in their life when He called them for no person says Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost, and no person comes to the Son unless the Father draws them.

Predestined to salvation means God already had the plan of salvation to give to mankind before He laid down the foundation of the world but He said that He wants all people to repent and come to the knowledge of the truth and be saved.

Mat 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.

Act 17:29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device.
Act 17:30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent.

Act 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
Act 10:35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
