I was helping out with some dishes and apparently that put undue strain on my back. It started out as just strain, but now is in full blown spasm mode (lower back)

It has been harrowing and I have prayed about it for sure, but additional support would be nice. I can't afford to go to the hospital so just laying on the bed is really my only option. I had to lay on the floor last night (for 20hrs) trying to get the bathroom.

Regardless, I would guess the pain I just have to deal with but mentally being trapped on a bed all day (this makes day 3) doesn't exactly produce the best mindset. I feel alone and bored to distraction but there isn't one. So just pray for my mental sanity and the fortitude to just sit still until it's over.

It's like being imprisoned and it's not productive. Whatever is laid on your heart. It snowed here for the first time this year and i really wanted to see but 90% of the time I can't even sit up. So it melted before I could see it. First world problems maybe but if you feel a burden, lift it up. thanks.

I was in a car accident years ago and my back was always had an issue with spasms. I could do the simplest thing and it would spasm. Then I started taking a mineral supplement, Magnesium Malate, Magnesium bonded with malic acid, from apples. I also started doing "Roman chair" exercises and stretching. That was 10 years ago and my back feels great.
The rule for herb and vitamin supplements is typically three days on, (taking them), and four days off (stop taking them) . This allows the nutrition in the vitamin supplements, or the medicinal properties in the herb(s), to work on your body without your body being continuously fed the herbs or supplements so as to have to digest and distribute their properties via the bloodstream.

Since this just happened, remember the RICE principle. This applies with torn muscles too. "R" Rest, "I"Ice (do not use heat. If you pulled any muscle tissue heat will increase blood flow.) The usual rule for ice is ten minutes on, 15 minutes off. Try this for about an hour and see how you feel after you read all the rest of the RICE formula.
"C" Compression. Compress the muscle area that is torn or in spasm. One way to do this when it is a back injury is to take the ice pack and lay back on it, slowly.
"E" Elevation. Elevate yourself a bit in that area of the spasm so that if it is a muscle tear the blood from the tear doesn't gather in a stationary posture, like laying flat on your back. You want blood from a torn muscle to leave the area for faster healing.

Just a suggestion. Also, drink lots of water , no alcohol or dairy. This helps healing as well. And try to avoid caffeine.

yeah I've just had someone to help me with ice packs...I violated this and slept with it on, which allowed me to get up for about 30 mins to set up for bed rest. I had read that alcohol was helpful but it only seems to help for the duration of it being in system....and then I seem worse off. Not sure...regardless I am out of it and there is no way I can drive to get more. water seems to help but it's the expulsion that's the big issue.

ty i'll try the ice regiment. when it thaws I am stuck though :(

I'm sorry to read of your troubles. I know what it feels like to leave an ice pack on overlong. God be with you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your back pain, Mii. It is hard to do life when our physical self doesn't cooperate much. Please know that I've prayed for you asking the Lord to give you strength, complete healing according to His perfect will, and give you the desires of your heart.

I pray your back gets better Mii, I have been having back trouble as well....although not as bad, mine is sciatica and its pain that radiates down my leg, but I'm still able to function.

Lord I pray that you'll relieve Mii's pain and discomfort and free Mii from having to lie in bed....all honour and praise to you through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Hey thanks everyone. @StrugglingTilMyReward I'll keep that in view. I'm going to have to focus on strengthening the muscles surrounding so that doesn't happen again as easily.

If only I could @everyone in a thread...would be nice.

It was a rough ride, but about wednesday I was able to get off the bed, and by thursday I was able to stay up and about for more than 20 minutes. My legs were shaking tremendously wednesday but I could at least get up.

I've gone longer and longer each day and today I was able to stand for reasonably long periods of time and walk (albeit slowly) long-ish distances. My left leg is still dragging and I can't lift it the same as my right but in a few days it should be as simple as just stretching and exercising. I'm uncertain if a bit of atrophy set in, but it seems like it.

Thankfully I can now get fully dressed so that's a big plus. This was a rather harrowing "adventure" and I did a good bit of soul searching as I had little else to do but I do want to give the Lord (and you all) a big shout out.

when I felt well enough mentally to post, the mental stress of it all only seemed to get better from there so thank you very much for taking the time. I had to face some things I've been avoiding, and I suppose I can expand if you'd like.

Anyway, I appreciate it. Feeling pretty blue today and I'll probably take a trip someplace. It'll be hard driving a long distance but I need to find some direction and there are few places I've felt led to a few times, and discerning only takes one so far, sometimes you have to just start walking a little more purposefully. I'll take it easy on my back and take frequent breaks to stretch, I'm fairly confident I'm enough on the upswing now physically that I can move forward in other areas. Further prayers will DEFINITELY be appreciate :)

Hi Mii, I feel your pain. I also have a bad back, with degenerative disc disease and arthritis in it. It's no fun being in pain and not being able to move..

Try putting heat on it. Heat works wonders for my back, whereas cold only aggravates it. Take ibuprofen, which is an anti-inflammatory.

DO NOT lay on the floor, it's dang near impossible to get back up. Been there, done that more than once. Try sleeping on your side instead of flat on your back. Sleeping on your back puts strain on it, but sleeping on your side does not.

I've been sleeping with a pillow between my legs to take the pressure off my hips. I tell ya, I wish there was a button I could hit to restore my body to the original factory settings.

Thanks for mentioning the pillow. I also sleep with one between my knees, AND since I'm a side sleeper, I also sleep on a pillow under my right hip..

Thanks for posting that link Alex. I like watching things that encourage healing. Have you ever watched any of the Dan Mohler or Mike Miller videos?

I regularly visit my doctor because I have chronic back pain from time to time.
