2Th 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

When we consider this prophecy, many will understand and many will not that this has been occurring always, however right now, today, it seems the way of the many.

In the above quotation we see that the wicked would not receive the love of the truth. In some translation it is written they loved evil. All are written in the past tense indicating they have chosen evil over the truth.

My observation of those who believe lies these days is quite simple, they love lies it seems and it does not matter to them if lies are accepted or not.

So in the end I find people who believe lies really do not care what is a lie and what is truth.

Praise God for truth and the Way in His Only Begotten, Jesus, Yeshua.....

For context the entire chapter is necessary I think.

A Good Soldier of Christ Jesus
2 You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, 2 and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men,[a] who will be able to teach others also. 3 Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him. 5 An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. 6 It is the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops. 7 Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.

8 Remember Jesus Christ, risen from the dead, the offspring of David, as preached in my gospel, 9 for which I am suffering, bound with chains as a criminal. But the word of God is not bound! 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 11 The saying is trustworthy, for:
If we have died with him, we will also live with him;
12 if we endure, we will also reign with him;
if we deny him, he also will deny us;
13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful—
for he cannot deny himself.
A Worker Approved by God
14 Remind them of these things, and charge them before God[b] not to quarrel about words, which does no good, but only ruins the hearers. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved,[c] a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth. 16 But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness, 17 and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, 18 who have swerved from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already happened. They are upsetting the faith of some. 19 But God's firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.”

20 Now in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and clay, some for honorable use, some for dishonorable. 21 Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from what is dishonorable,[d] he will be a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy, useful to the master of the house, ready for every good work.

22 So flee youthful passions and pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace, along with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. 23 Have nothing to do with foolish, ignorant controversies; you know that they breed quarrels. 24 And the Lord's servant[e] must not be quarrelsome but kind to everyone, able to teach, patiently enduring evil, 25 correcting his opponents with gentleness. God may perhaps grant them repentance leading to a knowledge of the truth, 26 and they may come to their senses and escape from the snare of the devil, after being captured by him to do his will.

Yes it does seem the way of many today. It seems to be picking up speed . Experience rather that as it is written has become the new signs and wonder gospel for many today . I am reminded of the verse below in the Easy Read Version .

Some people enjoy acting as if they are humble and love to worship angels.They always talk about the visions they have seen. Don’t listen to them when they say you are wrong because you don’t do these things. It is so foolish for them to feel such pride, because it is all based on their own human ideas. Colossians 2: 18

The Nicolaitans received not the love of the truth, but rather trusted in the things of men losing their first love. The first work of God giving them his faith so they could seek after him.

They we told to do the first works beleive God that works in them not giving that over to the experiences of men the things that the Nicolaitans do .

“I know what you do, how hard you work and never give up. I know that you don’t accept evil people. You have tested those who say they are apostles but are not. You found that they are liars. You never stop trying. You have endured troubles for my name and have not given up.“But I have this against you: You have left the love you had in the beginning. So remember where you were before you fell. Change your hearts and do what you did at first. (believe God) If you don’t change, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. But there is something you do that is right—you hate the things that the Nicolaitans do. I also hate what they do. Revelation2:2-6

It certainly seems that way. It also appears that today lies are winning over truth in every aspect of society. But we can be thankful that in the end truth will triumph over lies.

All is as prophesied though isn't it? The Book of Matthew chapter 24 is one example.
False prophets abound today. Osteen, Jakes Parsley, Hagee, the list is long.
I think the church was in trouble the moment the first Denominational construct arose among the body of the faithful.
denomination (n.)
late 14c., denominacioun, "a naming, act of giving a name to," from Old French denominacion "nominating, naming," from Latin denominationem (nominative denominatio) "a calling by anything other than the proper name, metonymy," noun of action from past-participle stem of denominare "to name," from de- "completely" (see de-) + nominare "to name," from nomen "name" (from PIE root *no-men- "name").
From mid-15c. as "a class name, a collective designation," of things; of persons, "a society or collection of individuals," 1660s. From the first comes the monetary sense (1650s) from the second the meaning "religious sect" (1716).
