Well I've boasted about 4 of my 5 so far.
So here's my fifth proud father moment.
Several months ago or so ago my eleven year old asks about helping at school with an art night thing for families to come to. Then after that was over he wanted to help with a similar event for the school board.
Then after that he wanted to help in the school Library over the summer.
But the real chest puffer was when he asked if he could help with VBS at church. 😁
I'm just starting to realize that he really does enjoy being a helper.
So here's my fifth proud father moment.

Well not sure this is a proud moment as much as peculiar.
Yesterday we went to my nephews wedding. All 4 of my boys managed to find ties, vests and/or suit coats and all dressed nicely for the wedding. I wasn't even going to have them dress up. They were proud of themselves.
Today they did it again for church. All on their own.
Someone asked me what the occasion is?

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
We've been trying to teach our kids that just because something LOOKS cute and fun doesn't always make it ok for believers to participate in. Many forms of entertainment aimed at children have been the doors the devil uses to get into their young lives.
One day after listening to a minister talk about comparing something good like brownies to something like we were inspired to use the example with our kids. Now, they were about 3 and 4 at the time. (now 8 &9). The conversation went something like this:
ME"Should mommy make some brownies? Wouldn't that be good?"
KIDS: oh's and aw's and yes!
DAD" Okay, but make them with that secret stuff"
KIDS "what stuff"
ME "oh okay, I'll make the "special ones with that secret stuff. They'll NEVER KNOW we're giving it to them"
So when we got home I made a batch of brownies and of course they asked what was in it.
We looked at each other and answered "POOP"
Well of course the kids freaked out.
Now would these REALLY be good brownies if that was in it?
NO!
BUT they LOOK good don't they? You'd NEVER know the poop was there is we didn't tell you...........
we went on with this for a bit, they got the point.
Fast forward to present day:
We're at the park a few days ago and a kid was asking my son to play a certain game my son knew wouldn't be alright. They boy kept pressuring him and finally asked what was wrong with it...... being unable to put into words WHY he felt this game wasn't ok, my 8 yr old proceeded with the poop brownie story and ended up teaching this boy about the Lord All afternoon he kept coming over asking my son questions about the Bible and Jesus!

so driving around the other day with stuff on my mind and outta the blue my daughter says "just pray about it mom...... isn't that what you said to do? You told me prayer is our best weapon........"
(funny thing was it was out of the blue that she said this...... I was just trying to find a certain item at the store and couldn't find it......)

On Tuesday, I had a teacher conference for my oldest son. It was really good. I found out he is an excellent writer.
They also, are learning about the five love languages and he had to write an essay about it. The teachers read me his introduction. It was very insightful. It really surprised me.
Last night, I was reading a book to my youngest two sons. The youngest says to me "Dad, why are the other kids that were in kindergarten with me in first grade and I am in kindergarten?"
I had to explain to him why. It made me a little sad to hear him ask that. But, me and my two youngest can start a club! Those who did kindergarten twice! (smile)

So over the weekend we had one of those rare go out to eat nights. We were sitting around the table chit chatting about the holidays and what things they got and what things they are still wanting and working for when my youngest ( who I can hardly believe is now 7!) looks up and tells his brother (very loudly) "Why are you asking dad? Why don't you just pray for it? Jesus will give it to you"
Hubs and I looked at each other and tried so hard not to laugh.....

My son told me last night that he can't wait for this virus to be over and to be able to go back to school.
I was thinking to myself "aren't we all feeling that way"
BUT what he said next as his reason why just melted my heart.
He opened his Bible and began searching and reading scriptures out loud about practicing magic and spells. Very serious he told me how almost everyone he knows at school is into Harry Potter and similar things and that when he gets back to school he's going to talk about this with them because "they just don't know and understand it's yuck"
made his mama almost cry.

What a sweet thread to start! I am reminded of Proverbs 22:6: "Train up a boy according to the way for him; even when he grows old he will not turn aside from it.” These parents, by example, have slowly lead them step by step in the way of life, until each step has become a strongly set habit. We have God’s Word for it that such training of a child when he is young and impressionable will never be effaced and that such good habits will never be destroyed! Train on good parents and grandparents!

Some memorable things my son has said that made my heart melt were:
-he told me he wanted to get baptized in the nearby river at the age of 6
-he asked me to buy him a Bible and then to read it together unprompted
-when we go on walks or eat together he always asks what we should talk about

My daughter tells me to start acting like a real grandma and stop behaving like I’m a young girl🤦♀️😂😁. I’m afraid she’s gonna purchase a rocking chair for me.
