Beginning to read the Bible in 1969 I went on to reading many versions and in several languages.
Now I do not see well enough to read any, so I go by what the Lord moves me to recall when discussing and listening to narratives of the Word, but it is not quite the same.
As many others, all I believe, I share here what I have been given to understand. It is always possible for two true believers to have differing understandings of the same teaching. This should be acceptable to all who are learning, but it is oft times the basis for disputes. This will always be the case until our Savior returns.
It so happens that I began to read the bible in 1969 too. I have read the complete bible 4 times and my wife and I are currently on the 5th complete reading. For each complete reading a different version which I find useful to gain a fresh perspective. I agree with you also that true believers can have a different understanding of the same teaching, probably due to differing levels of spiritual understanding based on culture, tradiion or anything else that has been previously taught. Yes, it is true that this can be the basis for disputes, even on the most minor point.
