Samaritan's Purse getting kicked out of New York, not allowed to help Covid patients

This Christian organization set up shop in Central Park in New York City quite some time ago, to help people afflicted with Covid. As you know, their hospital system was inundated, having trouble accommodating everybody. So health care workers from out-of-state came in to help, through the Samaritan's Purse organization.

New York City is kicking them out because of their Christian values. The volunteers are required to profess Christian values in order to be a part, including such things as marriage between one man and one woman. However, Samaritan's Purse never turned away patients based on religion, race, or sexual orientation. They helped everybody in need. Hope Rising just got done raising $1.6 million to help Samaritan's Purse.

Also, Governor Cuomo is saying the volunteers are now required to pay state income tax. They were working in the state for more than 14 days, so they are required. They don't get an exception because they were assisting New York with Covid.

They are in the middle of tearing down their field tents now. Existing patients are being allowed to stay until their cases complete. I guess New York cannot be helped.

Unbelievable! Aren’t the Samaritans a not for profit organization? And if so they are exempt from taxes correct?

It's New York, they are Christian...............anyone surprised?

Here's a question..............did the State of New York tell the Medical persons who came from other States and worked there for weeks that THEY had to pay taxes?

No idea, but...........if they didn't, then Mr. Graham and his Organization should file a Discrimination Suit, right?

Rev Graham's organization did what any Christian organization. He provided a service to a community, no strings attached. Today he said that the organization will pay the employee's taxes, and if called on to respond again, they would do so, no strings attached.

We were watching a news update from Chicago a few weeks ago.
They were talking about all the new ventilators and equipment that had come in donated from California (sorry, I find that hard to believe) and another state (forget where, but also unlikely....) as well as blankets and needed supplies.
As the camera was going around the room you see all this stuff, slowly being shown off. UNTIL a folded blanket with a SAMARITANS PURSE symbol and a pile of their pamphlets beside it came into view. THAT was cut off from view quicker than the blink of an eye!!!!

I think we are past the point of "bureaucracy" being the problem. At this point, it's corruption, thinly veiled behind "bureaucracy," plain and simple.

What I find even more absurd about the taxing is, Cuomo says the VOLUNTEERS must pay state income tax (?!??). They are in your state, spending money in your state. They are not taking money out. Their money is flowing into YOUR economy which needs it, solely through their kind hearts. I'm sorry, but there's no "bureaucracy" here. Cuomo was faced with the decision whether to tax the volunteers, and he made it. New York city council and governors made conscious decisions to be asinine, and New York residents--whom all they did was get unlucky and catch the virus--pay the price.

It's a state income tax. So if you work there for more than 14 days, you are required to file, and crunch all those numbers of your income that you made all year. It may break down that you owe New York, even though you didn't make a dime there.

Similar thing happens if you are a US citizen working abroad. The US is the only country in the world that requires all citizens to file a US tax return, even if you never set foot on US soil all year. Even if you earned every dime of your income in Hungary, because Hungary's income taxes are less than the US, the US believes you are required to pay the US taxes on that money.

thats weird I am not sure they are targetting just Christians though but anybody. Of course christians are the ones most wanting to help, put their lives on the line etc.
NYC has always wanted to make a buck out of anyone though...since you cant even find a place to live without paying throught the roof in rent.

Hi from the UK,

The UK is hardly handling the coronavirus crisis well (worst in Europe!) but I can't believe that in the USA you have so called leaders allowing bureaucracy to stand in the way of progress.
Oh well, I guess it's in these people's nature.
