What did you learn at church today?

I was thinking this might be a fun thread idea, for everyone to share what they learned at their church, maybe even possibly sharing links if the church saves their “live-streams of sermons” since a lot of churches are doing that now, including mine. Church ended for me quite a couple hours ago, so I’ll try my best to recap what we learned, lol 😅

Basically we learned how we are to teach each new generation the wonders and greatness of the lord (Our church is doing a “Pray for me” program, where if you sign up, you are given a family with children in school or a child going back to school to pray for, so the lesson was tying into that program), and how much it matters that God is the main source of the Christian’s happiness. We used Pslam 145 and if anyone is wondering, I looked at my church’s website and they have today’s pamphlet as a PDF, but no way to hear the lesson yet, I thought it would have been uploaded already but now I know it isn’t uploaded within the same day.

So what we learned at our church today was how God loves everyone. The only way we can combat racism is by applying a god centered view, not by the ideals of the world. Even if we don’t get along with people, we as Christians must show love and compassion, for the lord does the same for everyone. We used psalm 2:8 for the lesson.

Thanks, I just know there are still some people who can’t make it out to church, and I thought it would be cool and spiritually growing to hear different messages from churches. Ah, I just made it without looking cause I didn’t think anyone else came up with this idea, but that’s what I get for assuming, lol.

Unfortunately, due to my work schedule I have not been able to attend church service for 4 years. Perhaps, I could watch service online. Surprised that I have not thought of it before now. Maybe I can watch it tomorrow ( I have Monday and Tuesday's off) and report back. Yeah, just might do that. Glad that you started this thread because it got thinking.

They won't even allow church services in our state because of covid. They did for a few weeks but then the second wave hit.

Church services are allowed in Florida but with strict social distancing and mandatory wearing of face masks.

Not allowing Congregational worship is against the Constitution. The 1st Amendment specifically. I have seen people debate this, but I have not seen a convincing argument that the State has the right to deny any person the "free practice" of their religion.

It is sad. However, if Christians put a little effort into it, they can find a way to worship God regardless of any restrictions the State may place on worship services.

Where I live, we have congregational worship, and I thank God for that.

At least i learned something. They do not allow church gathering here due to covid (i am in southamerica not USA)

I agree that it is an infringement on our 1st Amendment rights but since this country is a republic the states have certain rights in matters of sovereignty that are not specifically prohibited or regulated by the US government but are permitted under each particular state constitution.

For purposes of public safety and of limited duration under certain circumstances the states have restricted access to certain facilities , accommodations and activities including church services. If the restrictions strictly applied to church services and no other business or activity then that would be unconstitutional.

In my opinion, despite the restrictions being for the reason of public safety it is still a violation of our rights in being denied access to places of worship, how we congregate, unlawful confinement to homes, being denied access to places of employment and how we chose to live our lives under the existing laws and freedom provided by the US Constitution that is defended by the US Armed Forces.

The lockdown is being perpetuated under the auspices of public safety but it is really about government power and control over the population.

The argument you laid out is the one used by pretty much everyone to justify the States intrusion into the rights of peoples to freely practice their religion. I fully understand their argument. I simply do not agree with it. These are the same people who found it Constitutional to abort unborn children. The same people who found it Constitutional to have same sex marriages, transgender rights, legalization of marijuana sales, use, and are unashamed about their trashing the Constitution and it's Amendments, as well as the Bill of Rights.

As for States rights verses Federal Laws, when the two conflict, Federal Law always preempts States rights according to the Constitution. I fully support States rights, but the 1st Amendment clearly states that Congress shall make NO LAW that infringes upon the rights of citizens to freely practice their religion. (paraphrased) This also binds States. A State can not enact a Law that is unconstitutional simply because they want to. I also agree that none of this is concerning Public Safety. They wrap it up in a package of Public Safety, tie a pretty bow around it, and shove it down the throats of their citizens.

Even still, if Christians seriously want to continue to worship God, they can find creative solutions to do so.

There are far too many examples of where States are allowing peoples to congregate for various reasons, and some of those illegal, and they claim those people have a Constitutional right to do so. The various riots that occur daily now are a clear example of this. When it suits their depraved purpose, State leaders are quick to scream "Constitutional", but when it doesn't they scream "Public Safety."

The fact that not one single Congressman, or even the President, or Attorney General have challenged this intrusion into the right of citizens to freely practice their religion speaks volumes about them. To be fair, I seem to remember Trump trying to argue this, but neither he, nor any of his Administration have challenged this in our Courts.

The Government, at every level, will always do what they think the citizens will allow them to. It's up to the citizens I suppose to set things right. One person can only express his/her views, it takes many to defeat City Hall as they say. That is also what elections are for, and the more of the deadwood we vote out of Office at every level of Government, the more we will accomplish in moving towards the Country the Founding Fathers envisioned.

Since everyone brought it up, I'll add my 2 cents (Even though it isn't the main subject of the thread, lol)

I think with how technology is now, there are ways to get a sermon online, but I know my Grandmother's church, where mostly everyone is a lot older, I don't think they could do it. I am very thankful that my church has been able to get backup to meetings since May, we had to watch streams basically March-April at my house. So for our meetings at the church, we have the chairs separated, but masks are not mandatory. But everyone cannot stay in the church after the service, and must gather outside if they wish to socialize after a service, and the church is working on getting church programs back to normal this upcoming month, September, but they stress if you do those activities to wear a mask. Also, since we do communion each Sunday, we have to walk up front, grab a cup that is double stacked, with bread in one cup and the juice in the other, and drop money we wish to give to the church in the offering plate, cause they are not passing out those plates.

Overall, if a church doesn't want to be open, then so be it, but they need to do something like streaming a sermon, and if they don't, that isn't good. If there is anyone with that problem, I would be more than happy to post a link to my church's website where they do live streaming at 9am and 10:30am (Central Time Zone), I know it isn't the church you normally go to, but it's better than no church. Also, with this whole virus stuff, I don't agree with masks and being closed, but if that is what they choose to do, I'll respect it. I don't agree, but I've been driving out to play "Unofficial Pokemon League" (Because Pokemon Company canceled all events) and while I have to wear a mask to go into the store, it's better than not being able to play Pokemon TCG with other people, online game exists but playing in-person is fun and I even got to go to a "Unofficial Pre-release", can't do that on the online game. That's how I'm trying to look at this stuff while it lasts, but man I can't wait to set my mask on fire, I'm just done, lol.

That Jesus is always with me. That I can come to Him no matter what. That His Grace is sufficient. That I just need Him. That He will sustain and guide me. That nothing can give me what He can. That I need to keep in the word constant!

Today we learned “How to vote”, no the pastor did not say which candidate to vote for, as he believes that would be wrong of him to do, but instead vote with keeping hope in God, praising God, and to trust God, for God decides everything in the end, and he is eternal, unlike people because there is no salvation in believing people, and people eventually return to the earth when they die, which will never happen to God.

I learned that W had died who was 90 and that J and A are going to have a baby, they put the sonogram up on the screen so we could see.

Oh and we had some scripture too. It was about how when christians are disagreeing, we should sort it out one on one before involving anyody else.

I had heard that sermon before though.

sometimes the pastors recycle sermons. When you attend church for a couple of years you notice that.

Your church must follow The Christian bible year such as mine. We had a reading
of the same exact thing in mass tody. Did they have a reading that "If there are two or more gathered in my name, I am there"?
