As someone who has mild Aspergers’s syndrome, I know disabilities can very much affect a person’s life. I think differently and sometimes act like a 5 year old, with being goofy or making loud noises on purpose. Also, I can get emotional easily.

I am of the mind set that any mental/physical disabilities cannot be cured and anyone who claims they can are a liar, doesn’t matter what background of religion they come from, this is stuff that cannot be cured and will be with a disabled person for the rest of their life. I know some disabilities are extreme and sometimes disabled people hate themselves because they are disabled, but that is why we must love them, for God loves everyone, and show them that God loves them, even if they are disabled.

If they believe in bad stuff, like supporting homosexuality, then we as Christians should hopefully guide them on the correct path, but if they refuse, don’t be surprised. A lot of disabled people don’t know how to think deeply, and can sometimes form their opinions based on how their parents raised them. I’m not saying everyone is like this, and I’m very grateful to God cause I could be in a much worse condition with my disability, but it is something to consider. I know this can also happen to people who don’t have a disability, but it just seems to happen more to disabled people, as far as I’m aware.

I used to ride the special needs bus to school and have been around special needs people, it really does give you a perspective and makes you wonder why: “Why did God create a person to be like this?”. The one disabled kid I’ll never forget was on my high school bus, all he could do was say his name over and over and make noises. He needed help to go anywhere, he could walk, but he needed to be guided along, I don’t know what he had, but I’m pretty sure it was mental retardation.

I know I used to doubt myself, thinking I’m different and I still struggle with this mindset, but even with differences, we can all come together as Christians to love and obey God, which just gives me hope, for God is in Control and is Good.

So post your opinions on disabilities and share what disabilities you have/any loved ones with disabilities. I think my cousin’s out of wedlock son has a disability, but they haven’t gotten him tested yet. When you’ve been around disabled people, you kind of pick up who has a disability and who doesn’t. I’m not trying to mean, I’m just aware of it, that’s all.

i'm a real life 100% Lunatic. (they called it's Bipolar Disorder)
it's a disability.
my doctor gave me a life-time pass to not have to serve Jury Duty.
i guess you must take the good with the bad.
God has a plan for everyone, no matter what cards were dealt.

Indeed, that is why I say I like who I am, for God made me this way. Cause even with this disability, God loves me and has plans for me and everyone ^_^

Sorry to hear you have that, probably makes life stressful. The only disabilities I've seen in people are retardation, down's, ADHD (My Stepbrothers have it a bit, they have to take medicine everyday), slow intellect, autism/Asperger, physical as in wheelchair, I always hear people talking about how they have dyslexia, and I believe I've probably seen someone suffering from bipolar disorder, but from what I know, it's a disability where you can have extreme sudden mood changes, I'm sorry if I'm wrong, my knowledge just comes from the internet/any media that talked about disabilities.

I think progress in mental disabilities come in trifling and inappreciable ways. Progress is slow. Then again, science has been fighting cancer and heart disease for generations and it's still can be fatal to some. But when I say it's slow it means it's still progressing. There's horror stories about what doctors did with conditions such as yours; especially with conditions like Bleed's just 50 years ago.

I have a family member that was born with dwarfism and has a thousand other issues along with that. I swear if we burried him as many times as doctors said he was gonna die, he'd be in China by now. But he's not. He's getting by and his pain changes all the time but is controlled. This isn't the kind of news people had just 100 years ago. The didn't have ADA accessible buildings and laws and parking lots and adaptable vehicles. They didnt have the kinds of meds you're on. Are they working? To some extent. And that's the story right now and it will be untill it's something we can fix . I really have no doubt but that even schizophrenia or schizoeffective disorder, which is controllable with a lot of people right now, will be a total fix sometime in the future. So, to say that disabilities or disorders can't be fixed, I think is not seeing a bigger picture of tediously slow but effective progress. You and I don't worry about Tetnus or Cholora or TB, Polio. Heck even a bladder infection killed people.

God touched us. Breathed His breath into us. He built us in His image. I think He expects us to use our minds and bodies the very best we can . Some like you Sarah and Bleed are tested more than me. I mostly think some people are refined more by fire. Refined and heated for a better grade of steel.

We're still not smart. Our best wisdom is God's folly. But I think He wants us to keep trying. I really do.

Oh yeah no I think science and medicine fields have helped and have cured stuff, it’s just when churches, such as Bethel Church I learned recently, say that they can cure autism with prayer, or how Autism speaks said they would cure autism, it just made me feel like I have a disease and should feel bad about it, or at least that’s what I would have definitely thought as a kid.

I want cures for everything, my grandmother died after a 2 year battle with Bone cancer. I just don’t want people telling me there is something wrong with me and I need to be cured.

If they ever made a medicine to fully get rid of my disability, it might be cool but at this point, I feel perfectly fine the way I am. I believe it is learning how to live with my disability, that it has strengthened me and it gives me an appreciation for God.

My mom told me girls really don’t get autism/Aspergers that often, and if they do, it’s usually really severe like having retardation or Tourette’s. So I know it’s not luck, it’s how God made me unique, and how I can hopefully with my uniqueness show that a disabled can live perfectly fine, I’m considered “High-functioning” and I thank the lord that I am. Amen

I dont conside bipolar disorder a 'mental disability' its a mood disorder. And it can be cured. But not with drugs, which is why some people that get the drugs treatment are never really better. It takes fasting and prayer. God can and does heal.

aspergers am not so familiar with but a neighbour with autism has been this way since I can remember, though I do know of some instance where its picked up when a child is really young and has been succesfully cured, though it would have taken LOTS of medical expenses.

It was this book called awakening ashley that I read and the treatment had to do with stimulating the audio sensory processes. Not really sure if EVERYONE who does the treatment gets cured but I think the. expense of it is prohibitve to most. Thats autism...but I dont know how far the brain is affected, apparently even adults can benefit from it. I dont know if people can get medical care costs paid for that though.

living with a disability is hard for most people we just cope and do what we can if we are limited. For example, I am short sighted so I need to wear glasses but its not a huge deal unless I make it one. Lasik eye surgery might be nice but it costs a lot of money.

“Why did God create a person to be like this?”

That's not God's doing. When God designed the world, things like that were not part of the design. We broke the world with sin, so now bad things happen, but it's not God's fault. That would be like me choosing to never get an oil change for my car, then blaming Mazda when it breaks down.

"I am of the mind set that any mental/physical disabilities cannot be cured and anyone who claims they can are a liar, doesn’t matter what background of religion they come from, this is stuff that cannot be cured and will be with a disabled person for the rest of their life."

Then you're calling me a liar, because I have seen it happen. I have not seen it happen with everybody who has a mental illness, or even everybody with a mental illness that somebody has prayed for, but it happens. In the Bible Jesus healed people, the apostles healed people, and it still happens today. Either the Bible is lying or people get healed.

I’m not bitter, I just get don’t like people claiming they can heal something that cannot be healed. I also don’t like people being manipulated by throwing their money into stuff that someone will claim that will fully heal them.

To answer what you have said earlier, yes God does heal and disabilities can be managed with medicine, but my disability will never be 100% cured and that’s fine with me. I believe I have done a lot of stuff people would consider a miracle for me, I finished high school, I have a job, I can drive, and I finished college (Community College), so I guess someone could call me “cured” with how much I’ve done, but nope. I still struggled, I got on antidepressants/therapy in college and I’m back on them until this virus stuff is done.

To give you perspective I’ve watched these videos:

And I know what some people might already be thinking: “Youtube is bad”, well I have learned a lot and while there are some things I have regret learning (DON’T GOOGLE Bug chasers, just don’t), but videos like these help me know who to support and who to stay away from, also, this was a commercial that Autism Speaks used to have, I tried watching the whole video but I can’t, it turns my stomach:

Also I just googled it, and MENTAL DISABILITIES ARE NOT THE SAME as a mental illness, here’s my link to prove it: https://www.arundellodge.org/what-i...ental-disability-and-intellectual-disability/

(I want to state, all the videos I posted might have bad language, this one I just posted I know has some slight language, but for my previous post, I haven’t watched those videos in awhile so if there is bad language, sorry for not posting a warning, I usually try to post warnings when I can when sharing videos)

Thread title: What are your opinions on mental physical disabilities?
My answer: My opinion does not matter because the Word of God says:

Sarah, have you watched any youtube videos featuring Tahni Cullen? She wrote a book about her autistic son, Josiah's Fire.

I don’t think I’ve heard of that name, but I’ll try to look it up. All names I know about are from my Bible Studies, like Beth Moore as an example.

Yep, the Lord is over everything this much I truly believe, I was just wondering if anyone would be sharing how their disability or loved ones with disabilities have changed their life, or let them look at life differently.

My mom said I didn’t speak till I was 5, had to do sign language and she still has her journals she kept on me when I was a baby. She doesn’t keep progress on me anymore, because luckily I am considered high functioning, a lot of people wouldn’t guess I have a disability from my conversations with them, lol

Jesus modeled how we are all to live, he healed all, and modeled how we are to do so, Bethel Church members walk in the power of the Holy Spirit as we are all to do.
The body of believers are those filled with the Holy Spirit and walking in the power of the Holy Spirit, as did Jesus and then the 12 as He conveyed Holy Spirit to them, the operated and grew in ministry of healing , deliverance , restoration, raising the dead, etc. Jesus never sent anyone to the Dr.
Jesus said in these days many would have an outward form of godliness and deny the power, that is what takes place in most churches today.
Healing is available, we are all to walk as Jesus walked, every ability Jesus manifested is available top every believer.
When "churches" as we know them now began we lost focus on personal relationship as in Genesis 1 and Revelation 22 when He restores us to right and personal relationship, in the meantime those who have ears to hear and eyes to see will accept this personal relationship and keep they're minds "stayed on Him" with every "thought , word and deed" and receiving healing , restoration, favor, blessing, etc that He always intended before the fall in Genesis.
One way to begin is to understand that all sickness and disease is not something we "have", it is an attack from the enemy who only seeks to steal, kill and destroy and as such it has no right to be on a person.
I know a ministry where a young man who was once a Downs Syndrome child is now freed, high functioning, and his face is restored and no longer bears appearance of the condition. What God does for one He will do for another.

You speak of strong dislike for people who mislead.......
I STRONGLY caution you against Bethe Moore, she falls into the group you have made clear you have distaste for.
Here is a woman who speaks, and sounds good, but she twists the Word of God to fit what she wants to say, and uses phrases such as "you have to manipulate God" ( an example of twisting right there)
YOU CAN NOT MANIPULATE GOD.

yes, I will..... in time.
I am Mama Bear to an autistic child who has changed my life and outlook.

But remember this:
Autism, Asperger's, insert diagnoses name here are NAMES.......
and according to Philippians 2: 9-11

9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place

and gave him the name that is above every name,

10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,

in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus is still above it all.

But that would only be the case if that child was on medication, do they still look deformed? Here’s a website link I found, talking about the disability: https://www.everydayhealth.com/down-syndrome/definition-different-types-down-syndrome/

Also, here is the definition of high-functioning: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=high+functioning&amp=true

I’m not saying it can’t be done, but it just doesn’t sound right. Like with prayer and medication a disability can be handled better, but it will never go away.

I only did her John study with my mom’s bible study group, we just liked how personal she was, sometimes a bible study can get too formal and wordy, if you know what I mean.

So I watched a bit of the video and looked the book up, very interesting stuff and definitely does show that God has plans for everyone, but the kid still has autism. Yes he suddenly got better which I think is incredible, but I have gotten better overtime as well and it just happens. I’m not saying it’s a miracle, it definitely is, but his autism and my Aspergers/autism are not cured. We are doing better, but we won’t be fully cured until we go to heaven.

I find that story very cool and inspirational that any bad situation can be made better, that’s what I got out of it. From what I know, I was basically diagnosed when I was 1 or 2 years old, cause I wasn’t talking, but all the stuff I have done, my mom was honest and she said she didn’t she me being able to do that stuff. So yes I think the lord does work through his Holy Spirit and can heal, but you can’t say “I can heal this mental disability” because disabilities can’t be healed, they can be managed or get better over time, but they will never fully go away, and I’m perfectly fine with that.
