Matthew 22:40
"The whole law and the prophets depend on these two commandments."

If your focus is on to humbly serve the Lord you will not be breaking any commandments in the first place. Jesus summed up the Commandments into these two - love the Lord with all of your heart and to love your neighbor as yourself. These are not particularly burdensome to comply with and as stated by Jesus, "My yoke is easy and my burden is light".

The Law was completely carried out and obeyed in its fullest by Christ through His perfect obedience, and that obedience was unto death on the Cross, therefore for the Law to be fulfilled in us, our faith must be in Him and His Atoning Sacrifice.

I'm not sure of your answer. Luke 16:16 say; "The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it."

It seems to me that those two commandments pertain to (i) something that has passed, and (ii) somthing that was given to Israel. "THE Law" is always the Law of Moses, and for the Church it is abolished - nailed to the cross (Eph.2:15; Col.2:14). And the word "presseth" seems to indicate that it is a huge effort.

This law Jesus nailed to the cross . Its taken out the way . Thats how sinners are reconciled to God through his blood . Not through obedience to commands . If a verse said " if you do not do everything I say you will go to hell " you might have a point .

what we do: Love God with all your heart, mind and soul and your neighbor as yourself.
The only "command" Jesus made was: you MUST be born again
what God does: God has caused us to BE born again 1 Peter 3

We are not burdened with trying to figure out what a good work is......as the Lord has "prepared ALL our good works that we should walk in them"
Eph 2:10 being obliged to those good works means that God approves of the work and we won't miss any opportunity to do them.

[ For those don't understand the nuance of should, could or would
1. should - obliged 2. could - possible 3. would - might if able
Only 2 and 3 offer a choice to do or not to do.

MATT 5:17.
Think not that I am come to destroy the Law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18.
For verily I say unto you, 'Till heaven and earth pass', one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the Law,
'till all be fulfilled'.
MATT. 4:4.
But He answered and said,
It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every Word that proceeds out of the mouth of God.
EX. 20:1.
And God spoke all these Words, saying,

The answer to the OP is relatively simple. If we follow the "letter" it will cause death, but "those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God" (Rom.8:14). The Greek for "sons" is in contrast to "children" in verses 16-17. "Children" shows only the source of their birth and makes them potential heirs. "Sons" is term for the mature who DO INHERIT.

The Law of Moses contains about 620 Laws. No man but Jesus was able to keep them. This Law is still valid for Israel, for it is a Contract. For the Christian, the Law is nailed to the cross. But the New Testaments contains about 2,400 commands for the Christian. They are God's Word but if you try to follow them like Israel had the Law, you will fail. All you have dome is address the flesh and it power (or lack of power). But if, as in Romans 8, starting with verse 2, turn to the Holy Spirit, Who dwells in the human spirit, for both instructions and the power to execute them, you will have applied "the Law of Life in Christ Jesus".

Does the New Testament command us to preach the gospel "to the uttermost parts of the earth"? Surely! But the Spirit said WHERE to Paul (Act.16:7). If Paul had preached at Bithynia would he be a hero or a rebel? The word of God commands Christian women to not have short hair. But HOW SHORT? Ask the Spirit in your spirit.

The Miracle of God’s Word

Galatians 2:18
For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a transgressor.
...
Please notice the context of the words, “If I build again” as words that are referring to the way in which we live. We live the way we do because we think the way we do, and we think the way we do because we believe the way we do. Paul is saying here that what Peter and the others who had followed him into hypocrisy had done, was to attempt to rebuild that which God had done away with in Christ. Christ had become the end of the Law for Righteousness (Romans 10:4), and now God had begun working according to a new Law and a new Priesthood (Romans 8:2, Hebrews 7:12).

No one can please God in the flesh, much less be justified by Him, for all that attempt to please Him in the flesh are actually at enmity with Him, even if it is done in ignorance (Romans 8:8). Living with our faith in anything other than Christ and His work at the cross makes us live AS transgressors, all the while thinking our actions are right with God because of all the things we are doing that are obviously right things. When we move away from faith in the cross, we move away from God’s Grace (Galatians 1:6, 5:1-4, Revelation 3:1-6). Does AA, Celebrate Recovery, The Purpose Driven, The Government of 12, and the many other things men have come up with in an attempt to help God help us really work? Simply put, FAITH WORKS, and only FAITH in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. While we are trusting in anything else that may seem right, and may even cause many to follow along with us, it will only be that of flesh and form but with no power. Let us be FOUND once again today denying ourself, taking up our cross, and following our faithful Lord Jesus!

Seeking God in His Word and experiencing Him through faith in the sacrifice of Christ!

Key words are "if you love Me". He didn't ask them that on day one. I do not believe anyone LOVES JESUS when they are saved. How can you love someone you don't know. Go for it.. talk about Him with out hearing knowing what someone else told you. Not the classic bible verses. Like tell me about your mom and dad. You know them..you love them.

Side note. Are you Pastor Curtis? Well you seem to promote this man ALLOT. Its what this man personally believes "The Miracle of God’s Word". Thats what got me.. you asked about commandments then you post something else. So seems again.. I pass.. no clue what this is about..

He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him.” John 14:21

Again this can only be done by Grace through Faith in Christ and Him Crucified. Romans 8:2, 2 Cor. 4:11-12, Gal. 2:20-21

I wonder how people define "commandments?" Jesus said many things people should do. Would those be considered "commandments?"

Baptism, Communion, Feet Washing, Great Commission, Lords Prayer and others (for example).
