The suriety and convincing power of the Holy Spirit are strong and sure when it comes to the truth in the Gospel. But, the enemy is powerful, cunning, and the master of lies. He knows how to manipulate mankind through their sinful nature and is persistent in thwarting the truth in the word of God.
Our salvation depends on the ability to discern the truth and worship the Father in Spirit and in Truth.
There's no doubt the numbers are high who believe they know and are known by Christ, and are not. Masses fall victim to the lies of the Devil, and unsaved pastors who are unable to know and preach the truth in scripture. The blind leading the blind.
It's amazing how much zeal one can have for lies (I am specifically speaking of discussion on Christian Chat). it amazes me that lies and half truths from the enemy have as much conviction of belief as the powerful Spirit of truth from God.
The churches have been avoiding true doctrine for so long that telling the truth today is like putting new wine in old bottles, or sewing a new cloth onto an old garment.
When the Gospel is preached it has the ability to give eternal life, but there won't be any true saving faith coming from half truths and lies. What does the Spirit of truth say deep within your soul when you read the New Testament? Are you able to discern what the spirit is teaching over what the enemy is spreading?
What is true saving faith and it's attributes consist of to you?
Are you SURE you are even a child of God? (I ask in deep concern, not an accusing tone).

Jesus was urging Israel the nation to repent and believe that he was the promised son of God that was foretold by their ot prophets.

Unfortunately, we gentiles were not his audience in his first coming.

We were without Christ and without hope during that time (Ephesians 2:11-12)

I am not really all that surprised anymore when I see people going around here preaching unsound doctrine. I was at first, but then I got used to it I guess. Usually after some discussion people get closer to parsing out the truth.

When the scriptures refer to God being a Spirit and that he is seeking worshippers who will worship in spirit and in truth. Spirit worship should contain fruits of the Holy Spirit: love, joy, peace, goodness, faith, etc. Preferably all, but at least some genuine fruits should be present. The truth part is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. (Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. The straight and narrow.)

Did you read something here where someone said something else?

It's like drawing near to God with vain words with a heart that is far away and uninvested in the worship. (Matthew 15:8-9)

People on here are all over the place with their doctrinal beliefs, and it's surprising and alarming how much zeal they possess for what is not true.

This is completely false. When Christ spoke, He spoke to mankind. There are only a few words specifically for Jews.

You said NOTHING about the LOVE OF GOD for the world.... why is that?

Do you know God’s Love for you.... Tell us first about His Love and show us His love..... then, preach to us. (y)

Do NOT preach Jesus Christ without preaching how much GOD LOVES US!(y)

When someone opens a thread like this, I often wonder what “their” truth is, and if they have this zeal for their truth as everyone else has for theirs, it’s interesting to find out, many times, their truth is just as false as the ones they are judging,

that’s why you post is so revealing, anything short of God love mercy grace and forgiveness is not truth, we can believe in Jesus and “our truth” all day, but if those things are not there, it’s not truth

Move on folks, nothing to see here.
Just one more BDF poster, thinking they are not deceived, while everyone else is deceived.
They are the child of God (if you like and agree with their posts or vote the same as they would), everyone else isn't.
They are the only ones preaching the truth, everyone else is following lies.
They know the Holy Spirit, everyone else doesn't know Him.
Yada yada. Boring. ⌛

Sorry if I'm "taking it out on you" bro, it wasn't really my intent, but your post is literally nothing different or fresh in comparison to 99% of posts here on BDF. Everyone and their dog believes exactly the same about themselves and others as you have just written and demonstrate it every time they post. You're somebody's heretic, too.

Would someone please explain to me how one can repent without belief and how one can believe and not repent?

In the context of gospel salvation the two cannot be separated. The fact remains that there are many corrupt gospels being taught as truth. Apostacy is great in these end times. I suggest they are greater than we actually realize.

Our salvation depends on the ability to discern the truth and worship the Father in Spirit and in Truth.
Our salvation depends on God alone and His free gift of grace given to those who have faith in Jesus Christ.

This is all very subjective. No one can tell what you are referring to when you speak of lies, and truth.

Even your poll is faulty in that you do not mention the verse of scripture you are asking about therefore how are we to exegete it. Do we guess? Maybe he is referring to "repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ?" Acts 20:21. Or maybe is is asking about "Repent and believe the Gospel" Mark 1:15. Therefore your presentation is subjective.

I would also point out that emphasizing an inner witness to truth is also subjective. What you may call a deep knowing in your heart that a scripture means a certain thing can be dead wrong and has been proven to be the case in the church for centuries. Instead, of highlighting an esoteric undefinable inner witness one should be able to present common sense rules of heremeneutics (rules of interpretation) to back up their interpretation and if this is done correctly, in most cases, there WILL be an inner witness that you have discovered the Holy Spirit intended meaning, that which was intended in it's original context.

Much of what you say is true. Just for the record, could you post a verse or two that proves your statement that I made bold red? I know that the Father seeks men who will worship Him in spirit and in truth, but that our salvation depends of this, I have never seen. Also, I have never seen that our ability to discern the truth is the basis for our salvation. Let's say ... like Peter. He declared the Lord and believed, but it was not his ability, nor any other man preaching the gospel. It came as a revelation from the Father in heaven. Have I missed something?

Thanks, and go well.

I think this is very valid question.
There is no doubt there are many false Gospels like "turn from sin" that are preached. One does not clean oneself up to come to Jesus.

If you can't discern the truth you do not have the spirit of truth and therefore you do not have salvation.
Discerning the truth is a fruit of salvation.
Please do not get deeply taken with a casual passive statement.

Mankinds discernment...:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

Thanks for that... I truly needed to laugh today.

I found myself losing my sense of humour a little. But you have helped me regain it... Thx.

That was like a billboard I saw inferring that the Democratic party is protecting Democracy...:ROFL:

Some things are just too funny. I don't remember voting on whether we should shut down the economy or wear masks that couldn't possibly stop a virus. I don't remember voting on whether we should quarantine people who are NOT SICK.

But they are protecting democracy...:ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

Mankinds discernment...:ROFL::ROFL: Whooo... I'm starting to get a stitch...

I could be wrong but I think he meant that we Gentiles were not there by and large to hear Jesus' words. Of course, there were SOME Gentiles who responded to the Gospel at that time, but Christ's physical audience during His time on Earth was primarily Jewish. After His ascension, and after the Holy Spirit came, the apostles went out and preached to Jews and Gentiles alike.
