Flesh (Old Man) VS Spirit (New Man): Difficult Scriptures explained by Pastor Ralph Arnold

In this video, Pastor Ralph "Yankee" Arnold explains a set of difficult Scriptures which are commonly wrested and pulled out of its context. He also explains in this video what the New Birth is and how that the Old Sin Nature which we all inherited from our first (Fleshly) Birth is not eradicated in this life. But rather that we received a Second Birth at Salvation which is our Spiritual Birth, the New Man. And the New Man (Our New Nature) cannot sin since it is born of God, and also born of the word of God (the Holy Scripture). And since God and His word, the Holy Scripture are both Holy, Divine, Just, Perfect and completely without Sin. Therefore our New Nature is also Holy, Divine, Just, Perfect and completely without Sin. Hence, if We walk in the Spirit, we will not sin, and we will not fulfil the lusts of the Flesh. But when we walk in the Flesh, we will sin. We will fulfil the lusts of the flesh if we walk in the Flesh (The Old Man, our First Birth). Hence, We therefore are still capable of sinning in the flesh.


But again, our New Man cannot sin, nor does it have any desire to sin. The New Man only wants to do that which is Just, Holy, Right, Pure and Truthful.

I pray that this video is a big help to those Christians out there who doubt their salvation a lot and who lack assurance. When we read and study the word of God It is very important that we rightly divide it, as we are commanded to do in 2 Timothy 2:15. And when it comes to the Doctrinal subject of the Two Natures and the New Birth, I think Pastor Ralph Arnold does a really great job at explaining this truth in his teachings. Well saints, may you all be edified and may this help to also strengthen your understanding of other Doctrines in the Bible and help you to grow and mature In your Christian walk even more.

I am concerned. Does he think Christians who are born again can fulfil the lusts of the flesh and that the flesh will be destroyed for that but their spirit will be innocent of the crime and still go to heaven?
There have been teachings like that since the Nicolaitans.

Nice, understanding this will also help Christians understand how to answer the question on the impeccability of Christ, or “could Jesus have chose to sin in his first coming?”

Consider this verse: 2 Cor 7:1
Since we have these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit, bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God.

This makes it clear that our spirits need to be cleansed from defilement as well as our bodies and this is directed to saved people who are born again / have a born again spirit. Therefore it is not good hermeneutics that he is presenting when he says that our spirit cannot sin. This verse destroys his argument. Careful what you hear. The "our spirit cannot sin and is not guilty no matter what we do with our body" teaching has been in the church from the beginning and is what the Nicolaitanes might have taught according on one the church fathers who wrote about them centuries later. No one really knows what they taught but the fact that this "your spirit cannot be guilty of the sin of your flesh' was blamed on them early in church history reveals how ancient this false doctrine is. The same demons that were behind it then are still active. They are using new teachers and dressing it up but it is the same old ancient Epicureanism syncretic falsity.

1 Corinthians 6:20
For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

This is a fair question.

I haven't watched the video yet, but I think there's a distinction between admitting that we sin, and actually advocating that it's ok to do so.

The later does indeed have the Nicolaitans written all over it, but the former would be useful for those that have sinned, and the devil tells them they are lost.

The teacher tries to persuade that we cannot sin with our spirit. But the scripture do not make that distinction the way he is trying to interpret "they cannot sin" in 1 John

Because of verses like the following his premise is wrong. Our spirit can be contaminated, defiled, so I think it is not accurate to say our spirit cannot sin.

Are you saying that when the Holy Spirit seal our spirit when we believed the gospel, as Paul stated at least twice in Ephesians, our flesh decision to sin can penetrate that seal and contaminate our spirit?

Well, unless you have never sinned after becoming born again, then according to your understanding, your spirit has been contaminated.

Defilement ESV, Contaminate NIV the point is that the we must not think that a sin does not defile the spirit as the teacher was trying to hammer.

We don't wallow in a sin and say it only contaminates the body and not the spirit.

So if we happen to pass away while our spirit is contaminated with sin, do we lose our salvation?

The soul belongs to us. The Spirit belongs to God. We, our souls will be purified by the Fire, which is his Spirit or Blood. and the Water is his living Word.

At least that's how it was explained to me. When I asked the same question.

It was too radical for me. They asked me to militantly oppose; Alcohol, tobacco and gambling. I don't believe they are sins in moderation.

I think you are misreading this a bit.

Whenever we come across the word “therefore” in Scripture, we have to understand the connecting thought the “therefore “ is there for!

Chapter divisions were not added in Scripture til more than 1200 years after the New Testament was written.

Once again, I am not minimizing sin, and there is always a cost for sin, but understand the particular sin Paul is referencing by seeing why the therefore is there through the previous chapter.

It's not clear what you're saying, but I'll clarify the matter:

If Jesus could not sin, His temptation was a complete sham, and His identification with sinners is a lie. I say that He could choose not to sin, whereas without the Holy Spirit, humans are powerless to avoid sin.

I suppose it depends on the sin. If we are in the act of feeding the bodies of our enemies into a wood chipper, then yes we will hear, "depart from me ye worker of iniquity."

The passage you cite has to do with idol worship. Here is what links the “therefore “.

Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said:

Now our Father WILL discipline us, up to and including allowing satan to destroy our flesh, if we continue to sin.

But I do not believe our sonship will be lost.
