Matt 7: 21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

2 Timothy 2:19
But God’s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “The Lord knows those who are his,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.”

Ephesians 1:13
in whom you also, having heard the word of the truth, the Good News of your salvation,-in whom, having also believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

Ephesians 4:30
Don't grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

The Holy Spirit is the down payment of the redemption that is to come. The day of redemption is when we are glorified and receive resurrection bodies.

There is also a seal that only God sees “The Lord knows those who are his,” and as far as what we can see it is evident by those who are departing from iniquity.
“Let everyone who names the name of the Lord depart from iniquity.”
Yes we should depart from iniquity . Thats christianity 101 . Mathew 7 is precisely talking about false prophets and he NEVER knew them .

Gal 4
8¶Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods.

9But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God , how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?

I guess I'm missing your point here.

If you agree that it is the Holy Spirit that is the seal and the cause and reason for departing from Iniquity then do you just misunderstand what it is that the Holy Spirit does in the Christian?

If you find yourself trying real hard to depart from iniquity you just mire yourself up in it even worse. The only way to depart from iniquity is to rest from your work at departing from iniquity. Trust in Christ that His Work is Sufficient in you to cause you to live a holy life and be Righteous before God.

I'm not going to think of green elephants anymore. They cause my iniquity. I have to stop thinking of green elephants.

What have I done here? I have caused my entire focus to be on green elephants. It is now ALL I can think of.

I'm going to trust in Christ. I'm going to trust that the Lord, who started a good work in me, will finish His Good Work. He Saved me for a reason and I trust He Will complete it. Thank You Lord. I know this will be done in your timing. Help me to be strong Lord. Help me to be strong for those that need my strength.

See the change in focus here? One from my work to Gods Work. God is better at this than we are...
I see your point. That sounds like the walk of legalism which is also flesh. That is a heavy burden.

Abiding in the joy of the Lord that is associated with repentance and holiness, has never been hard for me to understand and follow. I clearly know what is pleasing to God and what is not, the Holy Spirit is gentle and brings repentance and hope for victory at the same time. I know when I am justifying, compromising or entertaining the ancient lie "it is not a sin" "you surely shall not die" and I know the joy of rejecting that voice and following the Holy Spirit. The freedom and liberty of true holiness in surrender to Christ is an easy yoke and a light burden. The tremendous joy of a clear conscience as we abide in the fellowship of the Father and the Son in total submission is something that cannot be faked and we know when we are hardening our hearts or not. The peace of God will be disturbed if we are being stiff necked.

Its unto the day of redemption. Eph 4.30 .Many miss the duration of the sealing.
That means that sealing is for the purpose of redemption. It endures until someone breaks it through apostacy. Keep walking in the light. He will never leave you or forsake you if you abide in the vine.

2 Corinthians 1:22
who also sealed us, and gave us the down payment of the Spirit in our hearts.

Ephesians 1:13
in whom you also, having heard the word of the truth, the Good News of your salvation,-in whom, having also believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
in 2 Cor 1:22, the Greek word arrabón (translated as "down payment") also appears in Eph 1:14 which describes the Holy Spirit of promise with which we were sealed:

Ephesians 1:13-14 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.

arrhabṓn – properly, an installment; a deposit ("down-payment") which guarantees the balance (the full purchase-price).
728 /arrhabṓn ("down-payment pledge") is the regular term in NT times for "earnest-money," i.e. advance-payment that guarantees the rest will be given. 728 (arrhabṓn) then represents full security backed by the purchaser who supplies sufficient proof they will fulfill the entire pledge (promise).
HELPS Word-studies

So the Holy Spirit within is a down-payment pledge, backed by the Purchaser. We have within us sufficient proof that the Purchaser will fulfill the entire pledge.

Now ... as to the "sealing". the word "sealed" in 2 Cor 1:22 and Eph 1:13 is the Greek word sphragízō:

/sphragízō ("to seal") signifies ownership and the full security carried by the backing (full authority) of the owner. "Sealing" in the ancient world served as a "legal signature" which guaranteed the promise (contents) of what was sealed.
HELPS Word-studies

The Holy Spirit with which we are sealed serves as the "signature" which guarantees the promise.

So who was sealed?

Who is the Purchaser?

Is the Holy Spirit within sufficient "proof" that the Purchaser will fulfill the "pledge"?

I love this section in 2 Cor 1 and Eph 1 ... so much to unpack and also so important for us to understand. so, so awesome!!!

Yes, and we must be careful not to miss the main message which is THERE IS MORE TO COME. Our full payment is yet to come. What we have now is but a TASTE of the power of the world to come. :) We have been given a down payment but there is MORE to our salvation that comes when we are glorified. Some have been so focused on using these passages to support a particular controversial doctrine that they have robbed them of their intended message.

Just A Glimpse (y)

1 Corinthians 2:9KJV
9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

Revelation 22:1-5KJV
And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.
2 In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.
3 And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him:
4 And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.
5 And there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light: and they shall reign for ever and ever.

Revelation 21:10-27KJV
10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,
11 Having the glory of God: and her light was like unto a stone most precious, even like a jasper stone, clear as crystal;
12 And had a wall great and high, and had twelve gates, and at the gates twelve angels, and names written thereon, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel:
13 On the east three gates; on the north three gates; on the south three gates; and on the west three gates.
14 And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and in them the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.
15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.
16 And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.
17 And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.
18 And the building of the wall of it was of jasper: and the city was pure gold, like unto clear glass.
19 And the foundations of the wall of the city were garnished with all manner of precious stones. The first foundation was jasper; the second, sapphire; the third, a chalcedony; the fourth, an emerald;
20 The fifth, sardonyx; the sixth, sardius; the seventh, chrysolyte; the eighth, beryl; the ninth, a topaz; the tenth, a chrysoprasus; the eleventh, a jacinth; the twelfth, an amethyst.
21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls: every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.
