Ah, good point. Music often helps me relax and keep my mind occupied. Idol hands are not my friend rn.
I understand about the music, but from personal experience, allowing your mind to process your surroundings with less stimulus lets your mind focus on other things. Just a suggestion.

what is your physical health like ?
Not super terrible but it could be better. I've had three heart surgeries so I really should be moving more.

Okay this is a very turbulent week for me so perhaps this is my ocd and scruples talking but, if I were to give up all my hobbies (as I feel like I focus on them more than on God) does anyone have suggestions on what I can do? Do I spend all my time praying? 🤔 I had a job till recently (it was not for the money but something to occupy my time so I'm not sitting at home thinking all day) unfortunately due to irregular management I was forced to leave. It's hard for me to tell what I should and shouldn't do. I have almost zero discernment and I'm anxious about everyone of my hobbies (life in general actually) I cant help but feel I have an incredibly boring life ahead of me and I'm trying to prepare for alternative things to take my time. Unfortunately reading the bible is one of my least favorite things to do as it causes severe anxiety :( I know that is not a good thing and it should be my biggest source of spiritual help. But honestly it terrifies me.
I recommend doing these things to fill your time:

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, he will sit on his throne in heavenly glory. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate the people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will put the sheep on his right and the goats on his left.

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, "I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

“Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink? When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you? When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’

“The King will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.” (NIV)

Volunteer work or something similar is a good idea 🤔 I used to help out at a church downtown, not sure how active they are rn.

Scruples usually has to do with a person's morality and what he is and is not willing to do.

In this case Kojikun seems to be using scruples to refer to something that a person obsesses over.

So, "If I give up my hobbies, what will I do with all my free time?" Man, you're making me nostalgic over here.

Once upon a time I had no life at all I played video games because they were entertaining, and they became the only life I had. This was back in the SNES/PS1 days. My whole life was video games, but it wasn't a problem because I didn't otherwise have much of a life.

When I started getting into church and family stuff it began conflicting with my video games - conflicting not just in time sharing, but in mind sharing. I might as well not have gone to church because I would spend all the time there thinking about the game I could be playing right now.

When God started dealing with me about giving up video games, my primary concern was, "What will I do with all that free time?" God said, "Plenty!"

Fast forward a few years, and I'm now a minor minister at the local church. After a few years I did let video games back into my life, but now they take their proper place in my free time instead of crowding out better things I could be doing with my time.

Kojikun the question comes down to, why do you think you should give up your hobbies? Are they conflicting with something else for your time? Are they conflicting with your morality? Or do you no longer enjoy them, but you have nothing else to do with your time so you keep doing them anyway?

back in 2011 or 2012, my addiction to playing the Sims was taken care of.
The computer crashed and I lost the game, permanently.
Do I miss it ?
Nah.

I can relate to what you are saying, but the approach I take is to have what I like to refer to as 'healthy life balance'. Yes, it is important to take time aside each day and focus on prayer and studying the Word, but it is also my experience it is possible to also leave time for fun aspects of life such as hobbies. So instead of giving up hobbies, schedule time for both.

Feeling terror from reading the Bible doesn't come from God, it's most likely spiritual warfare or your anxieties. Redirecting your attentions to other hobbies right now probably isn't a great idea. Maybe you can say what terrifies you exactly, be specific, so we can sort through them here and dispel any fears.

I just feel like this focusing on hobbies is like a diverting your attention to distractions.

But for me it is just the daily grind of life that produces anxieties. I haven't had an easy life. Scripture and a relationship with God have become a source of peace for me.

Fear is from Satan , he is the one keeping you from Gods word...
You will only find true peace from feeding on the word of God ...

2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Run to God , not from Him ...

Philippians 4:7
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Hi Koji,

I'm sorry that this post might not seem to have anything to do with your original question directly, but I just wanted to say that I think you're doing an awesome job making positive changes in your life (such as the 30 pound weight loss I think I read about in another thread?)

That's amazing!

I know you've mentioned struggling with Scrupulosity before, and it was specifically because of your posts that I did a a little reading up about it a while back (I didn't know anything about it's official definition until you had talked about it, so thank you very much for sharing.)

Please forgive me if this isn't very helpful, but I found this site to be rather informative:

https://scrupulosity.com/scrupulosity/

God bless you in continuing to make great choices, and please keep us posted on how it goes. :)

Yes, this is why I need a job or a hobby I can serve or empower others. I dont like that I'm afraid of reading the bible. I want to be able to read and enjoy it :/ I think I get worried than I focus on myself too much.

I cant decide if I love my hobbies more or God. I dont feel like I do but at the same time I cant handle the thought of having to get rid of everything. So whether I have this stuff or not I'm very unhappy rn

You could learn an instrument. I'm starting to learn guitar myself. There are plenty of free lessons on youtube. That's how I'm learning, although I've put it off for awhile since I'm trying to get really good at the instrument I've been playing for decades.. drums.
