First James is writing to believers would you agree?

James interpreted through a "lordship salvation" lens rather than the "grace" lens will distort what James is teaching.
I think James was addressing believers but that there may have been some non-believers among them also.

How so? What is dead faith in the context of James?

According to my understanding, it is the Type of Faith, that does not PRODUCE deeds MOTIVATED purely BY AGAPE LOVE, AFTER supposed SALVATION that happen the moment you first BELIEVED. In other words, A completely COUNTERFEIT SALVATION, A completely COUNTERFEIT of REAL FAITH, A DEAD FAITH that NEVER HAD ETERNAL LIFE IN IT.

1 John 3:14 (HCSB)
14 We know that we have passed from death to life because we love our brothers. The one who does not love remains in death.

Genuine Salvations will produce after being SAVED, this Type of Deeds, PURELY OUT OF AGAPE LOVE.

Matthew 25:31-40 (HCSB)
31 “When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory.
32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, just as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
33 He will put the sheep on His right and the goats on the left.
34 Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.
35 For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in;
36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you took care of Me; I was in prison and you visited Me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You something to drink?
38 When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or without clothes and clothe You?
39 When did we see You sick, or in prison, and visit You?’
40 “And the King will answer them, I assure you: Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of Mine, you did for Me.’

Have you ever felt a tug on your heart, to give FOOD to a beggar, or someone who held a sign WILL WORK FOR FOOD? It was JESUS who tugged at your heart.

Good points. Works produced by a loving heart is not the same as trying to work for salvation. The difference between fruit and works.

So a living faith is one in which deeds produced are through a motive of love and Christ working in you. It is the opposite of striving to earn God’s acceptance but a resting in God and gratitude which results in good deeds. Am I understanding correctly?

We are seeing so much censorship all across social media. What ever happened to "free speech."
Oh well then I personally believe we must keep this thread opened and express truth.
He received multiple admonitions to tone down his rhetoric before he was banned after multiple warnings.

Added: oh, I see VCO beat me to it :giggle:

Free speech is certainly under attack but I don't think it was a case of that ;)

no actually in this context he is talking to non believers who only have a professed faith. But not a genuin faith
those people are not saved that is his warning to them

I do agree we can. It look for a lordship salvation lens

Well I miss DC and his honesty while with passion he stood up for his beliefs and in today's world, in order to survive, passion in our faith and belief in the Lord Jesus Christ may have to become more aggressive

I think James was addressing believers but that there may have been some non-believers among them also.
Pretty sure it's written to believers that weren't living up to the gospel in respect of giving:

James 2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

James 2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

He's addressing the scattered 12 tribes as brethren:

James 1:1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.

James 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations.

Paul was mindful in regards to the poor when they were asked by James and the others to do so:

Gal 2:9 And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.

Gal 2:10 Only they would that we should remember the poor; the same which I also was forward to do.

I think there is a contextual thing happening here as the church in Jerusalem was being hard pressed at the time.

Phil 4:15 Now ye Philippians know also, that in the beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving, but ye only.
