Some of us have been discussing the word "WORD", which turns out to not be a word at all. It seems rather to be a reference to God in either of two forms:

John
1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
1:14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

This is a reference to God (or, more particularly, Jesus). Here we see the Word as God's gift in the form of His dear Son come down out of Heaven. The other form of Word is the written Word that we call the Bible. It too is the gift of God.

2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

In my devotions I came across some interesting thoughts about the Written Word that I would like to share and present to you for your perusal.

"...it is God's words given to mankind in written form."

"...some people search the Bible to find passages to support their preconceived ideas or preferred lifestyles."

"We aren't free to interpret the Bible any way we want. The goal is to discover what God meant rather than to find a meaning we like. Remember, it's our Father's approval we are seeking - not our own or that of others. Therefore, let's devote time to studying Scripture, use our resources to learn about context, and ask the Holy Spirit to guide us to the truth."

Thank you. I can't take credit for it, but it edified and impressed me too!:) What awesome and great gifts God gave us in His Precious Son and in the Written Word and in the Holy Spirit. What a terrible thing it is to misuse and abuse any of those things.

All the above is true, yet we musst always be conscious of the truth that without the learning it by the Holy Spirit it is death, for, as written also, the written code kills.

Your post brother is a witness to what's been on my heart for a time.
Many pastors, teachers, evangelist, and preachers, set there sights on the pulpit to teach God.
We can never teach God. For his ways are above ours and his thoughts are above ours.
No one but him has seen the end from the beginning. Who will council him?
We are called to bring rememberance to his word his promises.
For his word is his way, his word is the truth, and his word brings life.
All things created are created by his word and are held together by his word.
When you believe in his word then your journey starts in knowing the Lord.

Hello Pottersclay, pastors "teaching .. God" :unsure: I don't believe I've ever heard of that before. Do you have any examples?

The apostle john wrote his gospel as a revelation....he is known as the Revelator. His focus is on the word of God.
What it is and who it is.
The one thing we all know is that our God is holy..holy...holy.
We can never teach God, we can teach his ways, his word, but not God himself.
Scripture tells us that his way his thoughts are above our thoughts and ways. It is also written that he will have mercy on those who he chooses.
When one goes to teach God he places him in a box...if you do this God will do this....if you say this ...God will do this.
What is man that he would instruct God?
What is missing is how we should approach God.
David said it best when he asked God to search his heart to see if there is any evil ways.
The Lord told Israel many times he will not hear them because there hearts are far from him.
Your heart has to line up with Gods word...Gods word is truth...the way...and life. Gods word is never changing just as he is.
There are many that think they are saved because of the confession they have made in that Jesus is Lord living by instructions of Gods holy word but not having that relationship that God desires.

From Genesis to Revelation it is [all] about the WORD at Creation, the WORD with Job, the WORD with Abraham, the WORD with Moses/Joshua, eventually it's the WORD made flesh, soon it will be the WORD at His Second Coming and then reigning for a 1,000 years, soon after that it's the WORD on His throne during the White Throne judgement.


The written Word of God is all about the WORD who is God!

Hello again Pottersclay, the thing is, I think that I do that all the time (typically as a means of encouragement). For instance, Psalm 37:4 and 1 John 1:9 come to mind immediately, because in them, God, through the pens of King David and the Apostle John, tell us that if we do this, then God will do that (as they are commands or admonishments with promises from God attached to them).

Perhaps I'm still misunderstanding your meaning however :unsure: (if so, please let me know what I'm still missing)

4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.​

1 John 1​
9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.​

Excellent post! I thought I might include one regarding the title of Jesus as being 'the Word.'

"Then I saw heaven standing open, and there before me was a white horse. And its rider is called Faithful and True. With righteousness He judges and wages war. He has eyes like blazing fire, and many royal crowns on His head. He has a name written on Him that only He Himself knows. He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and His name is The Word of God. - Rev.19:11-13

I'm still confused about what you said above. The Bible tells us that Jesus (the Logos in John 1), is the "the way", "the truth" and "the life", and that ALL things were created by Him and for Him. My confusion concerns your use of "his word" (instead of "the Word" being the way, the truth and the life, and then that "his word" (rather than "the Word") is the Creator and Sustainer of all things).

So to start off, who (or what?) are you referring to by "his word" in the above context, the Bible or the Lord Jesus :unsure:

We need to ask ourselves why Christ is called "the Word" of God. "The Logos" of God or "the Dabar" of God.

Words are used to express thoughts, therefore Jesus is the divine expression of God -- the express image of God as well as the one who has given God's words to men. Every word spoken by Christ was a word of God, and every word written in Scripture under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit in Hebrew and Greek was a word of God. Also, it was God the Word who wrote with His own finger the Ten Commandments on two tablets of stone at Mount Sinai (thus indicating that those commandments are imperishable whether written on stone or on hearts and minds).

Furthermore we see in Genesis 1 that God spoke and it was done -- God created the universe out of nothing except His own thoughts (expressed in words). And then we see that Christ the Word was designated as the Creator within the Godhead (John 1:1). So in fact Christ spoke and created the universe in six literal 24-hour days (as confirmed in the Ten Commandments).

But Scripture goes further and reveals that the Creator is also the Redeemer and Savior of the world as well as the coming Judge and ultimately the King of kings and Lord of lords. So God the Father and God the Holy Spirit have handed all power and authority to the Word until such time as the Word hands them back to the Father. It is significant that in Revelation 19 Christ is shown as the Word of God (thus confirming that this title is not limited to creation).

Then Psalm 102 (quoted in Hebrews 1) makes it crystal clear that the Word is also eternal God, who created all things, so that no one should doubt the deity of Christ.

PSALM 102: CHRIST THE CREATOR
24 I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: thy years are throughout all generations.
25 Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands.
26 They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed:
27 But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.
