gifts, wanted and unwanted

Do married couples REALLY know each other?
I was just struck by this cos you would think that because married couples sleep right next to each other and supposedly talk to each other and see one another daily, that they would know each other really well.

Why then do they give each other gifts that neither wants?
Why dont they just ask each other what they would really like and save the hassle of guessing?

Say for example its a christmas or birthday coming up. A simple question like, what gift would you like me to give/buy or make? Be specific.

If its a book, what title?
If its food, what kind of food?
if its an activity, just make up a coupon which gives a few options.

I mean. Im happy with flowers honestly if its just to show you are thinking of someone.

I was talking to a wife who kinda complained that her husband had given her a huge memoir of an american president when she really hated reading about american politics! lol. How can he get it so wrong I wonder.

In my family, It's near impossible to buy anything for anybody because they all already have everything they need. I can't hardly get then to give me a list 'cause they haven't a clue of what they want.

Like, what if people give you drugs? And you dont want them?

Are you equating a gift of, say a shirt, to drugs?

Say no to drugs.
Say thank you to a gift (that's not drugs) and accept it. God loves a cheerful giver, right? So if your friend is cheerfully giving and you get offended, it's kinda a smack in the face.
If it's a good enough friend that would understand you don't NEED a gift, then talk to them about it.

Easy peasy!

I wasnt offended by t shirt but then I thought I am never going to wear it cos its not really my colour and then everyone will ask have I been to Bali cos its got BALI in big letters when I havent. lol

On the other hand, my husband just shared this verse with me (KJV):

...he that hath gifts shall live

well I did tell her I dont usually wear black t shirts as they are too hot.
when she asked had I worn it yet.

I have since given it away....to an op shop (unworn) . Im not offended and I hope she wasnt offeneded that I never wore it.

I would ALWAYS say yes to chocolates! Lol

Quite a few years ago my 2 eldest kids won shirts in a library reading contest. Both kiddos were disappointed and angry that they didn't win a better prize (one of the toys). I had to remind them to be thankful for the gift and they ended up using the shirts as pajama shirts for yeeeears. Ended up being their favorite shirts.

If you sew, you could turn the Bali shirt into a pillow or lap quilt and gift it back to your friend. 🤷‍♀️

I usually give books.
I sometimes have additional prizes though they get to pick which books and which prizes as I have a range to choose from.

I'm lucky, my wife and I are not very much into holidays, and such so we will likely not do anything for Valentine's today, and other than say happy valentine to each other it will go unattended.
Now her birthday is a few days away. I told her to look around the antique shops and find what she likes.

I believe we know people as much as they wish us to know them! Hence why so many wear a mask,and i am not talking about a coved mask either. It takes time for many to drop there guard,and with very good reason to! TRUST????? humm ( Psalms 118:8) How long does it takes to know Jesus in our lives?? That greatly depends upon how much time one is willing to be with him in prayer.( Psalm 25:5) David would wait all day!! So time spent with the one you truly care about and communication means everything!

I think its nice that a husband will go with his wife shopping cos a lot of men dont have the patience..,they want to do a 'man shop' i.e grab the first thing they see.

My mum loves to go to op shops not cos shes cheap (well sometimes she is) but because she likes fossicking and never knows what she will find. And then if someone carries her bags for her shes happy.

Being the daughter that ends up being my job lol
