Have you ever been a judge?

I was nominated to be one, well I did put my name forward. Now Im meant to be the judge on a panel to select ten notable non fiction books from whatver is submitted for the award this year.

I have never really judged anything like this before, we have to give the books a rating out of 10.

I do judge books by their covers sometimes. But I also have to read them too. There are some criteria.

What about you, have you ever been a judge? If so, what have you judged, and do you feel qualified to be the judge? Or are you more like the jury? were you nervous and how do you feel about being judged yourself?

I just have the verse judge not, lest ye be judged ingrained on me by well-meaning christians.

I suppose if I wrote and published a book I would want to win an award too. Or at least have people read it. it may not be 10/10 though.

One of my least favorite parts of my job is that I’m asked to be part of the interview panel to hire new employees.

When you’re interviewing someone, you definitely are judging them. I’ve tried to look at it as comparing the candidates to see who would be a better fit, but that’s just a nice way to say we are judging them.

I don’t believe it’s necessarily the same judgement mentioned in scripture, nonetheless the responsibility of choosing the right person and taking away someone else’s opportunity is not fun.

Personally, I’d rather be interviewed than be the one who chooses, though neither situation is fun.

I’d love to be the judge of something like different types of pizza or chocolate.

well according to the rules of this judging panel Im now in, (panel of seven) we all rate the books out of ten and the average gets taken. I asked if any book has ever got a unanimous ten out of ten and the convener said no.

After the books are read they get donated to needy insitutions. But there is an award ceremony at the end of the year, where the author and or publishers get official recongnition. Im supposing that if any dont make the cut this year they may try again the next with another book, but they said most all authors ad publishers are honored to be considered for the awards.

Or maybe they just like going to the party afterward.

I can think of some interminable prizegving ceremonies at school, we had three of them last year, even for the juniors, which I thought was a bit much, but I just gave out awards and prizes for the top 10 children who'd borrowed the most books that year, so I dont think I was really JUDGING them.

blind taste test? Im in

Mystery shopping is kind of fun too. But I dont do ten out of ten ratings in those we just do surveys. The companies do them to find out if their customer service is up to scratch. Theres no award ceremony or anything, well not that I know of, though Ive personally never won an award for work. I dont really kow tow enough I suppose! some workplaces have MVP awards or employee of the month things.

oH actually we had FIVE award prizegiving assemblies. If I count them all up. Youd probably feel a bit left out or disappointed if you had to attend them all and never won anything.

Mystery shopping kinda sounds fun! I’m not entirely sure how that works though.
I hope your judging goes well and is fun!

mystery shopping you get assigned a shop to do, where you maybe buy or ask about something and then write a report and survey if it afterwards and get reimbursed for anything you buy. You describe the customer service you got.
You dont tell anyone in the store you are the mystery shopper of course.

Yes its kinda fun. Even though I dont like shopping all that much, but if someone is paying me to do it I will lol.

so funny went to a cooking class and the teacher shared that she was one of the judges of sausages in the National sausage awards.

She told us how they judge the sausages (over 700 entries) and who the winners last year were...

Gotta try those sausages...!

Everyone should win an award
Even those for the most disgusting sausage.

Second prize in a beauty contest is still a prize right? lol

I got some children to enter a colouring competition put out by the local supermarket in which they could win $25 voucher...could buy a lot of chocolate (or sausages, whatever)

I am not judging the entries though, as long as everything is coloured and it has their name on it, its going in.

I'd go for the chocolates or maybe some marshmallow Peeps. I prefer yellow.

I know some people say colour doesnt matter but I am not going to accept a colouring in contest entry that is NOT coloured in.
Saying its a snowy day and everything is white is not going to cut it with me.
Im sorry.

GOP was the best, i always liked how everyone hated how he would post in all caps, and how he'd just keep doing it despite all of the comments to stop lol. Pretty sure some people on CC have permanent frown-lines because of him.

Oh i was responding to what Lynx said about you bumping threads and reminding him about a poster called GOP. Nah his keyboard wasn't stuck, he just liked using all caps lol. GOP pretty much took a break from CC right around the time you were coming in.
