Hi there!

In today's culture of modern conveniences and getting everything done as fast as possible, in what areas of life do you utilize modern conveniences, and in what areas do you prefer the slower, "old-fashioned" way of doing things?

For example, for as much as I love how instantaneous modern means of communication can be (email, direct messages, online chatting, texts, etc.,) I still get "cravings" to hand-write letters the old-fashioned way with a good old pen, paper, envelope, and stamp (though even I have to admit that postage costs limit how much snail mail I send.)

At the same time, a good friend had to literally drag me kicking and screaming into the world of smart phones, and now that I have one, I can't imagine life without it. For one thing, it has replaced so many other items I used to use separately (camera, GPS, calculator, watch, internet connection, etc.,) and has saved me the cost of updating each of those things. As a single person, I've also found it to be a safety lifeline as I can contact someone for help at any time, and take pictures or video as evidence when need be.

I'm very thankful to God for both the old and the new ways of doing things in different areas of my life.

What about yourself?

* What chores, activities, or ways of doing things do you prefer that will take longer, but you feel adds to the quality of your life?

* What modern methods, appliances, gadgets, etc., do you like to use, and why? Do these things help make an unpleasant task more bearable? In what way?

* In today's fast-paced life, what things are you teaching your kids/those around you that preserve "the old ways" of doing things, and how are they reacting to your lessons?

I love hearing about how other people live, so I'm looking forward to hearing about how others like doing things, as well as why. :)

"Every day is a bank account
And time is our currency
No one's rich, nobody's poor
We get twenty four hours each
So how will you spend yours?
Will you invest or squander?"

As with money, our time is most spent on the things that have most value to us. What is important to take my time on will probably be a waste of time to some people.

* What chores, activities, or ways of doing things do you prefer that will take longer, but you feel adds to the quality of your life?
Anything gastronomic. I consider fast food, instant pudding and the like to be an abomination. It's not even a reasonable approximation of the real thing. Give me old fashioned pudding with flour, egg, butter, sugar... Mmmmmm!

* What modern methods, appliances, gadgets, etc., do you like to use, and why? Do these things help make an unpleasant task more bearable? In what way?
I like anything that consolidates multiple tools into one package and anything that gets the same quality result faster. If somebody would invent a teleporter I'd be an early adopter. If I can get the weather forecast from my phone instantly, or by watching the weather channel for a few minutes... it's the same weather forecast because all news stations check weather.com these days anyway, so I'm going for my phone.

* In today's fast-paced life, what things are you teaching your kids/those around you that preserve "the old ways" of doing things, and how are they reacting to your lessons?
The only old fashioned thing you can teach kids is how to be observant and pay attention to the world around you and figure things out for yourself. Some will listen and some will just use google and take whatever a random person on the internet said, if the random person said what they already wanted to believe. If they ignore good advice, let them charge ahead and make their own mistakes. At least some listen, and good advice does make at least a little difference. If you can teach one kid to stop and think about things for a bit, that is a net profit over not teaching anybody anything.

hmm great topic seoul!

well I much prefer to walk than drive a car short distances at certain times although its a bit of a luxury to have the option to drive but I do know some people, like my dad who NEVER walks anywhere.

I like the speed and comfort of cars, dont get me wrong, but...they are expensive, they cost to run, they need to be kept clean, registered, and parked somewhere, you cant get out in the fresh air (even air con adds to the cost) and you are limited to the busy roads in the city and could be sitting in traffic for hours.

You also do not get much exercise in a car, well your legs dont. And you cant serenditptipusly meet people or pick flowers or whatever on the way to where you are going.

there are so many cars on the roads these days that people are complaining the minute they get in one usually about other peoples driving or taking ages to get somewhere. Well come on, this is the price you pay for having a car would you rather WALK? Then put your money where your mouth is... walk! lol
