In Matthew 4:8-9 and Luke 4:4-5, the devil takes the Lord to an exceeding high mountain (a very big nation), and all the other kingdoms of the world at a moment in time when they are in their full glory, and tempts the Lord by offering Him all that these nations have, if the Lord will just worship/love the devil.
Realizing the glory of the worlds nations the devil is showing the Lord are the world's today and in our near future; what then do you think are the things the devil is tempting the Lord with about the world today and in the near future?

Matthew 4:8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

Luke 4:5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. 6 And the devil said unto him, All this power will I give thee, and the glory of them: for that is delivered unto me; and to whomsoever I will I give it.

Hello luigi.
When God walked among his creation in a human body, the devil tried to tempt him to use what he created for sinful purposes,

For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 1Jn.2;16

Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, depravity,.... Gal.5:19

Our Lord defeated satan and cannot be tempted with these things today.

When we think of the devil tempting people and influencing people we think it is to sin and do something bad that can be seen in an outward expression, and causing wars and chaos.

But the devil is working differently in the end time which he is influencing people to say Peace and safety, and to try to harmonize the religions, and governments, and people, and this is the dawning of the age of Aquarius, the age of peace.

And contrary to what some people believe the one world government will start off good for it has to start off good for that is the only way the people will come together in harmony, and the nations governments come together in harmony.

People will be fed, clothed, they will be talking peace and love with each other, except the Christians and Muslims in their fundamental beliefs will not buy in to it but they will be interpreted by the new age movement to be included in the unified religious system.

But when the New Age Christ establishes peace in the Middle East it will become worse for the conditions of the world which is what the devil wants for now he is working to cause wars and chaos, and starvation, and problems, and controlled conflict brings about controlled change, or constructive chaos, for it is because of the chaos that gets worse that they accept the antichrist as the solution to have peace on earth.

Which the new age movement is of seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils, which they have a false interpretation of the Bible based on the occult, and evolution, which they interpret all religions that way.

Which the new age movement does not believe that the New Age Christ will help them to evolve and have peace until the nations come together as one to work for peace on earth, which the Jews and Palestinians are the toughest to get to go along with other so the antichrist will handle that himself.

We wrestle not against flesh and blood but against spiritual wickedness in high places, which the devil is trying to influence the governments to come together as one and influencing the new age movement to preach a one world government and religious system.

For the devil cannot work as the New Age Christ until the nations come together as one to work for peace on earth that is not according to the will of God and the devil is influencing the new age movement with that belief.

1Th 5:1 But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.
1Th 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
1Th 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
1Th 5:4 But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Dan 8:23 And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.
Dan 8:24 And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.
Dan 8:25 And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.

But it is all a false peace plan and the devil wants to deceive spiritually as many people as possible, and who he cannot deceive spiritually he will try to destroy physically.

Fame and fortune. Kind of like how people want what they call fifteen seconds (or is it minutes?) of fame.

Jesus was aiming at eternity, though :)

It would be like the devil was offering Jesus the love of the people, but for the wrong reasons.

Jesus will only accept the love of the people for the right reasons :D

As it pertained to Christ, as someone else pointed out he was not tempted by a love of the world or the things in it because the love of the Father was actually in him

1John 2:15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

He certainly would not bend the knee to worship Satan/the dragon/ the devil for any of that responding,

Mat 4:10 Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

We know the whole world lieth in wickedness, and that the wicked one (Satan/the devil/the dragon) uses (as one of his temptations) the kingdoms of the world and the glory of them to entice. Whereas Christ resists Satan the picture below seems to show the manifestation of the exchange worship of him for the same, since the dragons power seat and authority are shown. He says that it is delvered unto me and to whomsoever I will give it. Later in Revelation you can see an exchange of some sort, and the worship and seat, power and authority is given to another (the beast) which likely met those requirements (to worship him) for the same. And the beast receives worship along with the dragon.

Rev 13:2 And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard,
and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion:
and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.

Rev 13:4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast,
saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?

That time of temptation that is shown in Christ can serve to give us a little more insight into other places

How do you come to the conclusion that "an exceedingly high mountain" is "a very big nation"?

Realizing the glory of the worlds nations the devil is showing the Lord are the world's today and in our near future
Again, how do you come to that conclusion? Why would the glory not be that in existence 2,000 years ago?

Hello Journeyman,
While it basically is the lusts of the flesh that the devil tempted the Lord with; one must also incorporate the full context of the Word in Matthew 4:8-9 and Luke 4:5-6 to understand what the Lord was tempted with. In those scriptures the worlds nations are at their pinnacle of glory. It is therefore today and in our near future where technology is providing mankind with all the lusts of the flesh that are the new idols people are in adoration with.
It is therefore the world of today with all its sorceries that the world is intoxicated with that the Lord was tempted with to be in love with.

According to the scriptures in Matthew 4:8-9 & Luke 4:5-6 the devil was tempting the Lord with the glory of nations at their greatest moment in time in history. This time would therefore be when the dragon (Satan) vests the beast with his power causing the beasts' ascension from the sea, which in turn causes the whole world who are not written in the lambs book of life (Revelation 13:4 & 8), to be in love with the world the dragon, the beast, and the false prophet provide mankind with.

Matthew 4:8 Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; 9 And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

Revelation 13:4 And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
Revelation 13:8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

How do you come to the conclusion that "an exceedingly high mountain" is "a very big nation"?
Mountains in the bible are often a metaphor for big nations, while hills are often a metaphor for small nations.

Isaiah 2:2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lord's house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

Again, how do you come to that conclusion? Why would the glory not be that in existence 2,000 years ago?
Was the whole world in love with the nations that were existence 2,000 years ago, as the worlds nations will be in love with what will be in existence under the system of the beast when the devil provides the beast with his power?

That's called speculation, not exegesis.

What do you think the high mountains and hills that are so full of themselves in Isaiah 2:14 represent, if not nations?

Isaiah 2:14 And upon all the high mountains, and upon all the hills that are lifted up,

Here are a couple of more metaphors in Isaiah 40:4-5 & Luke 3:5-6 of mountains and hills representing nations; unless your think this means that all the worlds actual physical mountains and hills are going to be leveled?

Isaiah 40:4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: 5 And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.

Luke 3:5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; 6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.

That's called speculation, not exegesis.
Did the devil offer the Lord the best of what was the ancient world of 2,000 years ago? Or was the moment in time that the devil showed the Lords nations in Luke 4:5-6 at these nations pinnacle moment? Common sense says it's when the worlds nations are at their greatest glory. This will appear when the dragon provides the beast with his power causing the beasts ascension from the sea, that in turn will have the whole world who are not written in the lambs book of life in love with this new technological marvel.

I don't think Satan knew who Jesus is at this point in the historical narrative.

If he had, he would not have tested Him by offering Him dominion over all the nations in the world - Satan isn't ignorant of the fact that God already has all power over all these things, and Satan's wisdom is extraordinary.

so Satan thought ((IMO)) he was dealing with an anointed prophet and meant to corrupt Him. God cannot be tempted, however ((see James 2:13-16)) - so what was really happening is that Christ was being *proven* according to His own purpose, and perhaps at the end of this when Jesus tells him 'get thee hence!' and he is compelled by the authority of God to leave, Satan gets a clue.

Jesus experience as a man is an example for us to stand against temptation .

“My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.

But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death. Do not err, my beloved brethren.”
‭‭James‬ ‭1:2-5, 12-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

flesh and blood can be tempted Jesus partook of that for our benifit and overcome as an example for us . Part of the journey is being tempted after we receive the Holy Ghost and needing to overcome temptation and sin

Well, the future rulership of all kingdoms would be included in satans temptation back then, but there's nothing really new about the devils temptations, except for the amount of it, more greed, more this, that.

I do believe that when our Lord was being tempted in the garden, it wasn't to run in fear, but to kill in anger, That's what i would have done if my creation wanted to hurt me.

Luke 4:5 And the devil, taking him up into an high mountain, shewed unto him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
Consider how weird it is that the devil can do things with time. Could the devil know the storyline and plan to discredit the Bible by causing the same stories to unfold? What if satan started Islam? How about computers to also help him with the end times (make sure no one is buying or selling)?

What are the chances satan fell like lightning to Earth ..and Earth became lucifer the morning star?

“Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe the Gospel.” (2 Corinthians 4:4)

“We know that the world around us is under the control of the evil one.” (1 John 5:19) “Who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.” (1 John 5:5)

“Jesus gave his life for our sins, just as God our Father planned, in order to rescue us from this evil world in which we live.” (Galatians 1:4)

“The world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.” (1 John 2:16-17)

“Satan, the ruler of this world, will be cast out.” (John 12:31)

“Jesus said, ‘The ruler of this world approaches. He has no power over me.’” (John 14:30)

“We are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil spiritual rulers and authorities, and against mighty powers in this dark world.” (Ephesians 6:12)

Luke 3:5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; 6 And all flesh shall see the salvation of God.
It's one, not "a couple"; prophesied and then fulfilled. Nothing in the context suggests nations.

Double fallacy: irrelevant appeal and reification. You're trying to support your speculation on a non-existent foundation.

This will appear when the dragon provides the beast with his power causing the beasts ascension from the sea, that in turn will have the whole world who are not written in the lambs book of life in love with this new technological marvel.
Again, speculation. There is no connection between the two passages.

It's fun to pretend satan doesn't have authority here ..or is the current ruler.
