First, I have a question to start this thread off if someone is baptized in a particular church of certain denomational what does that mean? I've seen people who state they are either baptized as Methodist, Baptist, and so on. I've never been baptized just Christen when I was younger. One of my family member is going to a Baptist church that I was originally going but stop because I felt alone. Now this family member is getting baptized in the summer, my only issue is that they keep trying for me to go with them. My issue I don't 'identify' with any particular branch of beliefs I just state that I am Christ-Follower. I know when you get baptized you are suppose be baptized in the Spirit, and Water. My issue with this is that some of religious organizations want you to be baptized in their way. I hope this makes any sense, please help me out here.

When you were water baptized were you baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit?

Matthew 28:18-20
18And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Paul addressed the issue that you're describing here:

I Corinthians chapter 1

[10] Now I beseech you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you; but that ye be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment.
[11] For it hath been declared unto me of you, my brethren, by them which are of the house of Chloe, that there are contentions among you.
[12] Now this I say, that every one of you saith, I am of Paul; and I of Apollos; and I of Cephas; and I of Christ.
[13] Is Christ divided? was Paul crucified for you? or were ye baptized in the name of Paul?
[14] I thank God that I baptized none of you, but Crispus and Gaius;
[15] Lest any should say that I had baptized in mine own name.
[16] And I baptized also the household of Stephanas: besides, I know not whether I baptized any other.
[17] For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
[18] For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

You mentioned "denominations" and the word "denomination" literally means "to name".

When it comes to salvation, there is only one name that matters:

Acts chapter 4

[10] Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
[11] This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
[12] Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

In Paul's day, some were saying "I am of Paul; and I of Apollos, and I of Cephas; and I of Christ", but it is only the last name that matters.

In our day, some are saying "I'm a Baptist; and I'm a Lutheran; and I'm a Pentecostal; etc., etc., etc."

If anyone seeks to baptize you into their denomination, then run for your life!

Water baptism symbolizes being buried with Christ, so that God might raise you up in newness of life.

Oh ok.

The Biblical example of water baptism involves going down into the water, being fully immersed (baptized) in water, then coming back up out of the water. You may do this if you believe what the scriptures say concerning who Jesus is, what He did, etc. (Acts 8:35-39 KJV)

If you are a believer, you may be water baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. (Matthew 28:18-20)

Avoid any such agreement that says you're being baptized into a church or a denomination or in someone else's name.

Good news for you saint. Seems like you have some christian friends and family members.
Ask them to baptise you. It doesnt have to be in a church or by a pastor or clergymen.

My mom and aunt baptized me in a bathtub when I was 15 years old. Then, later at age 25 two other friends of mind wanted to be baptized and no church would baptize us unless we joined their church and denomination.

So......all three of us went to our apartment pool in the middle of the night and baptized each other! It was fabulous! A night I'll never forget.

On another thread, I asked the Lord about the purpose of Water Baptism and He answered.....

God: Well, what was the purpose of circumcision?

Me: A sign of covenant.

God: Could circumcision save anyone?

Me: No.

God: The same is true with water baptism. It's a sign of covenant but, it has no power to save. It just means you and I have made promises to each other and all of heaven and earth are witnesses.

You do not have to identify yourself with any particular church in order to be baptized as a believer. So here is what you can do:

(1) Carefully study the Statement of Faith of this church where your family member goes;

(2) Know what you believe from the Bible itself;

(3) Compare the two and see if you are in general agreement with the stance of the church;

(4) Then meet with the pastor or elder who will be baptizing, and let him know that you wish to be baptized as a disciple of Christ, not necessarily for church membership; (if after baptism you feel led to become a member do so)

(5) If the pastor says that is perfectly fine, then go right ahead instead of beating around the bush;

(6) Ask the pastor if you will be baptized by immersion. That is what Baptist churches generally do, but you might as well get it straight from the pastor;

(7) Then let you family member know your decision, and move forward.

H1,

many people confuse water Baptism with Church membership. This is where the term " I was baptized Catholic, Methodist, etc...

water Baptism is not about membership in a church denomination, water Baptism is one identifying with the death burial, and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. You can read that in Roman 6:1-9

When an audience who heard the Gospel asked Peter what to do, he told them to repent and be baptized for the forgiveness of sins. When Peter saw that the Spirit had been poured out on Gentiles, he said, "Who can forbid water....?' Philip shared the Gospel with an Ethiopian eunuch in a chariot. After hearing his message, when the eunuch and Philip came to some water, the Ethiopian eunuch wanted to be baptized. The eunuch and Philip both went down into the water to do it, too, so Philip did not just use a drop of water out of a bottle.

In Colossians, Paul wrote that we are buried with Christ in baptism, wherein we are also raised with Him by faith in the working of God who raised Him from the dead.

If we look in Matthew 28, we see that Jesus told the apostles to preach the gospel to all nations, teaching them to obey all things that He had commanded them and baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

The question is, if you are really a "Christ-Follower", and Jesus was baptized and wants you baptized, are you really a Christ-Follower if you do not get baptized?
