Mailmandan,

Repentance doesn't simply mean 'to change your mind'. It means to switch your mind with the mind/thought of God in order to do God's will.

When we live according to the gospel, we are alive.
When we live according to the world, we live only in theory. We are an alter-persona. We are not truly ourselves. We don't really live, we are being lived.

In the kingdom of God, we are united with Christ and are our fullest self.
In hell we are the shadow of who we might have been if we believed the gospel with all our heart.

As I have already noted, the only time the word repent or repentance was linked to Paul was in the Book of Acts.

You can never find the term repent or repentance in any of his letters Romans to Philemon. And quite a number of these books (Thess, Romans to 2 Corinthians) were written before Acts 20.

You would think that when he was addressing those carnal Christians of Corinth, who were sleeping with temple prostitutes and other "terrible sins" that it would be the best opportunity for him to use that word repentance, but he never did, not even once. Nuff said.
II Corinthians chapter 12

[20] For I fear, lest, when I come, I shall not find you such as I would, and that I shall be found unto you such as ye would not: lest there be debates, envyings, wraths, strifes, backbitings, whisperings, swellings, tumults:
[21] And lest, when I come again, my God will humble me among you, and that I shall bewail many which have sinned already, and have not repented of the uncleanness and fornication and lasciviousness which they have committed.

Thanks for the correction.

Do you think that has anything to do with repentance for salvation?

Mailmandan,

Repentance doesn't simply mean 'to change your mind'. It means to switch your mind with the mind/thought of God in order to do God's will.
Doing God’s will after we repent and believe the gospel is the fruit of repentance.

There is a difference between doing God’s will in order to become saved (see John 6:40)

And doing God’s will after we have been saved (see 1 Thessalonians 5:14-18)

This is where definitions fly out the window all of a sudden and we can't find verses that actually tell us what it is .

I think the question that I was asking was not clear
In Luke 10:1-17

and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come.
2Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest.
3Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.
4Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way.
5And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house.
6And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again.
7And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house.
8And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you:
9And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
10But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say,
11Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.
12But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city.
13Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes.
14But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you.
15And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell.
16He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.
17And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name.
THIS event happened Pre-cross

So the Gospel is perhaps
Repent and be saved.

I think the missing key in today's Christianity is the REPENT element
Its God who gives the way in which a person may be saved..To Noah it was to build an Ark . Today its believe the Gospel. Which is 1 cor 15 ,1-4 ( in a nut shell ) This is the good news today.

Ever wonder why the only time repentance was ever linked to Paul was in Acts, and not anywhere in Romans to Philemon?
Why did Paul use it in Acts ?( genuine question) . I'm in agreement. Just would like your take on it please .

I don't think there is any scripture that justifies your preaching that we do not have one true God, but there is a different God for Israel who gives a different message to mankind. Paul spoke from the one true God. Not a God who was separate.
Thats such a bizarre response? How did you get that from what Guojing said ?

You are supporting my point. When unbelievers believe the gospel found in 1 Cor 15:1-4, from God's perspective, they have repented.

So if you want to insist on repentance, I am fine, that is when repentance automatically happens.

As I have already noted, the only time the word repent or repentance was linked to Paul was in the Book of Acts.

You can never find the term repent or repentance in any of his letters Romans to Philemon. And quite a number of these books (Thess, Romans to 2 Corinthians) were written before Acts 20.

Great point .

The word repentance triggers different meanings in the mind of Christians. The most common being regret for past actions and way of living your life prior to accepting Christ as your Savior. And this person would be correct.

However, repentance means way much more than that. The greek word for repentance is 'metanoia', meta= beyond and noia (nous)= mind, thought.

In 1 Corinthians 2:16, Saint Paul says that we have the mind of Christ. So, a repented person is a person who acquired the mind/thought of God. Why must a Christian repent/change his mind with God's mind? Because this is the only way you can do God's will. There is a close relation between the way you live your life and the way you think. Don't think like the world! Don't be of the world because our God is not of this world! The mind of God is comprised in the Gospel.

At the Terrifying Last Judgment each one will present the fruits of his faith to the Judge (Jesus Christ). Some people believe but don't bring fruits because their faith is dead, some people don't believe in God, they think this is a joke, a bednight story. Let's analyse ourselves and bring fruits worthy of repentance because our God is ALIVE and is NOT JOKING.
No believer will be at the great white throne of course .

Seriously? Which verse ?
I think some folks read the following verse:

"And if anyone was found whose name was not written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the lake of fire."

[or] "And if anyone was not found having been written in the book of life, he was cast into the lake of fire."

...and say there must be the potential that "believers" are present also.

As I understand it, ALL "believers" (having physically died) will have been "resurrected" by the point in time of His Second Coming to the earth, Rev19 (1000 yrs earlier than this LATER GWTj point in time<--when "the DEAD [/unsaved]" of all times will stand before God)

[note: my view (as far as I can tell) is, this is a misunderstanding of "the Book of Life" (like Psalm 69:28), from which names can be "blotted out" (per Rev3:5), which is the record of all who have "LIVED" (the "record" from Adam&Eve's time); and "the Lamb's Book of Life," the record of all who are "SAVED," of which Book is said, ones name is only "written in" or "not written in" (NEVER "blotted out"<--THAT is never stated with regard to THIS Book) ]

I think the missing key in today's Christianity is the REPENT element
Maybe 'half' of the missing key. Repentance and Faith are two sides of the same coin OR, you can't have one without the other.

True and saving faith 'turns from' sin/self while 'turning to' Jesus Christ crucified and risen for our salvation.

I am thinking " The Gospel" may be the very Presence of Christ
having not yet read all the replies, but Nehemiah6 was on the money. because the forerunner John the Baptist/the second witness, of the TWO WITNESS, in the spirit of Elijah, that was to come, set the stage for the Gospel of Jesus. for it was, Matthew 3:1 "In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea," Matthew 3:2 "And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand." Matthew 3:3 "For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight."

now what he made straight is what Nehemiah6 was alluding to, and here's the scripture, to comfirm what Nehemiah6 was saying, Mark 1:1 "The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God;"there it is.

why is the Gospel of Jesus christ "GOOD" news? answer, for he is our "COMFORT" of SALVATION, in person... supportive scripture, Luke 2:25 "And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him."

here the term "consolation" is the Greek word, G3874 παράκλησις paraklesis (pa-ra'-klee-sis) n.
1. an imploration, entreaty (urgent request (for mercy or help)).
2. an exhortation (urgent counsel, encouragement, or caution).
3. a comfort, solace.
[from G3870]
KJV: comfort, consolation, exhortation, intreaty
Root(s): G3870

see, the Lord Jesus, is our "COMFORT"/COMFORTER in flesh, in Salvation, how do we know this, just listen to what Simeon the man said, Luke 2:28 "Then took he him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said," Luke 2:29 "Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:" Luke 2:30 "For mine eyes have seen thy salvation," Luke 2:31 "Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people;" Luke 2:32 "A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel."

AND, Anna, a prophetess, Preached Jesus the SAVIOUR.

Luke 2:36 "And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity;" Luke 2:37 "And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day." Luke 2:38 "And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of him to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem."

THERE IT IS, JOHN PREACHING "REPENTANCE", AND ANNA, "REDEMPTION, ALL IN ONE....... "GOSPEL".

The Lord Jesus, God's own ARM in Flesh is our "COMFORT", and when this same Jesus died, and Rose, and Glorified in a NEW BODY, (THIS IS THE GOSPEL OF JESUS THE CHRIST), scripture, Romans 14:9 "For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living." BINGO, he now dwells with us inward, (Spirit of TRUTH), which is the Holy Ghost, the "COMFORTER", as John said... "ANOTHER" Comforter, but instead of being in flesh, now in SPIRIT. see the First "COMFORTER" was in Flesh and blood, (to DIE for our sins). but now the GOOD NEWS, he is in us by HIS "Spirit". scripture, John 14:16 "And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;" John 14:17 "Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you."
John 14:18 "I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you."

and he did come, on the day Pentecost.

so yes, this is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the COMFORT of all people,

Isaiah 40:1 "Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God."
Isaiah 40:2 "Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem, and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned: for she hath received of the LORD'S hand double for all her sins."
Isaiah 40:3 "The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God."
Isaiah 40:4 "Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:"
Isaiah 40:5 "And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it."

the COMFORT of SALVATION is for all NATIONS. what "Good" news for US ALL.

PICJAG,

Help me out smartie biblical scholars.
Salutations and amicabibulous greetings, my dearly beloved Platosgal.:geek::coffee:
The Gospel is that whosoever will may humbly come in a spirit of repentance and complete surrender to the foot of the Cross and freely partake of the Sin cleansing blood of the Lamb whose name is Jesus the very Son of God.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

The Gospel tells us what God has done on man's behalf.
The law tells us what God requires of man.
All of Scripture can pretty much be divided by Law and Gospel.
