Sad that no one wants to comment on the story of the Boatman and the Professors. They will discuss at length the number of angels that can dance on the head of a pin; and indulge in wasteful discussions on 'eradication of the sinful nature' (a heresy, btw); and type huge paragraphs on their cultish point of view - but will not talk about living the Christian life, the practical life in the Spirit!

Patience and love are some of those things we need not only to know about, but to 'do'

Give folks a chance! I thought it was silly of the professors not to bother to learn to swim.

They will discuss at length the number of angels that can dance on the head of a pin;
Meh. No angels would fit.

What do you make of this passage, then?

Colossians 2:11 - 12
In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead

I read your bio and agree with it.

however, doctrine is very important. especially the doctrine of salvation. I believe both practical application and knowledge are what is needed.

far too many Christians run their lives with their emotions. balance is needed. far too many operate out of very bad doctrine...one reason there are so many different churches and even cults

I am happy to discuss living the spirit filled life and being led by the Spirit of God...but without commenting on other's behavior :giggle:

Doctrine is important. Sound Biblical doctrine.
But doctrine must come out of life.

A truly born again person will be led by the Holy Spirit, who indwells him.
The Spirit will check us when we are going wrong.
See how the Spirit led the believers in Acts of the Apostles.
The Spirit and the Cross go together.
Only a crucified person will know how the Spirit works.
Further, a born again person will live by the Word of God.

The Charismatics run their lives with their emotions.
They are soulish; they operate outside the ambit of God’s Word.
They go by visions, prophecies, tongues, healings, signs, wonders.
No wonder they fall prey to evil spirits.

But, even worse, are those of the Calvinist/Reformed tradition.
They learn stuff in seminaries and Bible schools.
They are straitjacketed by TULIP and other doctrines.
18 months in the USA with the Reformed/Calvinist churches has convinced me they are DEADWOOD.
They have no life. They argue, debate and act superior.
They are the ones killing the Christian faith.

Quite right! The fruit of the Spirit are cultivated over a long period of time, usually takes 30+ years for the average believer.

And patience, forbearance, goodness, kindness, self-control, longsuffering, faithfulness, gentleness, courtesy, perseverance, godliness, brotherly love, and most of all, a forgiving spirit - what a lot of virtues to be seen in us! For the Holy Spirit to cultivate in us, thru the Word, thru the Cross, and thru the Fellowship of saints.

you will find plenty of that here

but then again, that pretty much sums up just about all Christian forums

again, I agree with what you are saying, but there is much disagreement with what is sound biblical doctrine

just be prepared if you decide to venture into some of the Bible forums

An imperative to practicing a Christian life is to study all of God's word diligently. Psalm 119 is a "prayer" for everything we need to survive, sustain and grow in obeying God and living that important lifestyle.
