THIS IS EASILY THE MOST COMMON WAY THE BIBLE IS PERVERTED, BY CHRISTIANS AND NON CHRISTIANS ALIKE
THERE IS A LIST OF COMMONLY MISUSED OR APPLIED BIBLICAL QUOTES ALSO.

PEOPLE OFTEN LOVE TO QUOTE "JUDGE NOT AND YE SHALL NOT BE JUDGED" AS JESUS TELLING US NOT TO JUDGE. NOT TRUE.

PEOPLE NEED TO REMEMBER THAT TIMES WERE DIFFERET, MUCH DIFFERENT IN JESUS' TIME. NOBODY HAD HEARD THE GOSPEL YET.
The apostles were originally only preaching to Jews.
The NT might be infallable, but that doesnt mean the words of the apostles were. Paul and Peter and the others had a major disagreement on whether new converts of followers of Jesus had to become Jewish first, do they now need to be strict in their obedience to the Mosaic Law
Scripture taken out of context is responable for all kinds of evil.
My opinion is simple. OT = thou shalt not NT = Thou shalt.
NT is about going forward and changing others lives, and when doing so, you automatically change yourself for the better. Dont focus on sin, sins, sinning, as more love comes into your heart, less sinning is inevitable

Except for the two stories of Potters Field and who actually bought it with the 30 pieces of silver (that was in the hands of Judas).

I know that this isn't what your post is about (and sorry for that), but after looking at the two accounts of Potters Field, I can no longer say that the NT is infallible. Or, perhaps humans mistranslated the original text . . . of which I would not know as I am not a "scholar."

Ok, back to your post! :D

yea, I tend to agree on that one. I think those who think every dot and tittle? is 100% accurate are fooling themselves. In fact, the things the apostles said I dont take as gospel, pun intended. I dont think they had it perfect nor did God control every utterace from their mouths.
In fact Paul had serious disagreements with his fellow apostles.
and the mistranslation possiblity is strong, as u suggest.

the potters field thing can be explained though. But if it were in error, it would be such an obvious one it would actually validate the truthfulness of the Bible.

Really? The two accounts of Potters field and who purchased is totally, TOTALLY different.

And I agree with what else you've said regarding those disagreements. How can we say that the Bible is infallible if the Apostles couldn't agree?! LOL - It's crazy! And how about the fact that the early Apostles were literally teaching new "believers" to follow the Law of Moses? That . . . is just insane, considering that Jesus (the Nazarene which means to Set Apart) sets us apart (free) from the Law? Jews are no longer to follow the Law, and Gentiles no longer follow the Moral Law that has been written upon the hearts of all people (including Jeffrey Dahmer, Gary Ridgeway, and Adolf Hitler). Jesus sets us apart from these Laws, yet as mentioned, the Apostles were trying to figure things out themselves, and actually taught people to follow it . . . just unbelievable. Of course, I don't think that most even understand these things, because most don't read their Bibles and when they do, they don't try to even understand it.

I agree it certainly helps our understanding of scripture to know all about the situations they were addressing. There are many examples. Salt mentioned in the old testament was written with a different understanding of what salt was to them than we have, if we know how they thought of salt it helps us understand what they wrote. The length of hair was addressed by Paul to a church where the length of hair was a symbol of rebellion. It helps to know that.

I think we can get carried away, however, with "context". The Lord gives us eternal truth in scripture. Many of these eternal truths were given to Israel. If we get so carried away with who God gave these eternal truths to we can lose the fact that they are truths.

t.
My understanding on that is The Jews bought it and Judas Acquired it from the Jews. Not really a stretch. Just depends on who is telling the story and/or who is the focus of the story.

Someone talking about my bio father, Mel, would say, he bought the house on macafee rd.

Someone talking about me would say, Ron acquired the house on macafee rd. (he gifted it to me)

The version I read said Jews BOUGHT IT, and Judas ACQUIRED IT

i THOUGHT YOUR PROBLEM WOULD BE WITH THE DIFFERENT DESCRIPTIONS OF HOW JUDAS DIED. LOL

Here's the scoop: :)

Acts 1:18 NASB20 - "(Now this man acquired a field with the price of his wickedness, and falling headlong, he burst open in the middle and all his intestines gushed out."

Compared to:

Matthew 27:3-10 NLT - "When Judas, who had betrayed him, realized that Jesus had been condemned to die, he was filled with remorse. So he took the thirty pieces of silver back to the leading priests and the elders. 4 "I have sinned," he declared, "for I have betrayed an innocent man." "What do we care?" they retorted. "That's your problem." 5 Then Judas threw the silver coins down in the Temple and went out and hanged himself. 6 The leading priests picked up the coins. "It wouldn't be right to put this money in the Temple treasury," they said, "since it was payment for murder." 7 After some discussion they finally decided to buy the potter's field, and they made it into a cemetery for foreigners. 8 That is why the field is still called the Field of Blood. 9 This fulfilled the prophecy of Jeremiah that says, "They took the thirty pieces of silver--the price at which he was valued by the people of Israel, 10 and purchased the potter's field, as the LORD directed."

And here are my notes on the matter - I hope they're accurate.

How can this be? - If Luke's accounting is correct in Acts, then it means that the discussion that Matthew clearly presents . . . is all made up. And since it is likely that Matthew has made up this conversation, it then means that according to Matthew, Dr. Luke doesn't have a clue as to what he's talking about. We know that the Matthew account is correct because it outlines that . . . what the Jews did actually fulfilled prophesy. Matthew 27:9-10 NLT - "This fulfilled the prophecy of Jeremiah that says, "They took the thirty pieces of silver--the price at which he was valued by the people of Israel, and purchased the potter's field, as the LORD directed." References are then given to the Old Testament: Zech 11:12-13; Jer 32:6-9.

Nowhere in the Matthew text does it mention Judas's name at all, let alone Judas "acquiring" the field. The Matthew account is clear that the Jews bought the field, not Judas.

Anyway . . . if I"m wrong I'd love to know so I can get my notes straightened out. Again, I know that this is off of your topic, and so am thankful that you've entertained it. I enjoy this kind of stuff. haha

IM CERTAINLY NOT GONNA DIE ON THIS HILL. BUT IF THEY TOOK THE COINS THAT BELONGED TO JUDAS AND USED IT TO PURCHASE THE LAND, THEN IT WOULD BE EASY TO SEE HOW SOMEONE COULD CONSTRUE IT AS BEING ACQUIRED BY JUDAS. I MEAN, IT WAS HIS MONEY THAT PURCHASED THE LAND.

TOTALLY AGREE. I HAVE AN INTERESTING ONE THOUGH. WHY DID THE PHARISEES QUESTION JOHN THE BAPTIST ABOUT WHY HE WAS BAPTIZING? DO YOU KNOW THE ORIGINS OF BAPTIZING? IT BRINGS A LOT OF THINGS THAT USE TO PUZZLE ME, INTO FOCUS.
ALSO, TITHING IS SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO NOT BIBLICAL LOL I ALWAYS HAD AN INSTINCT ON THAT ONE. ALWAYS TURNED ME OFF TO A PASTOR/PREACHER. ANSWER LIES IN HOW TITHING ORIGINATED

No one but God can change a life, and that includes our own lives. Focus on Jesus (Hebrews 12:2), not others and not yourself.

The apostles were not infallible, but the words they spoke are the word of God (1 Thessalonians 2:13: "And we continually thank God because, when you received the word of God that you heard from us, you accepted it not as the word of men, but as the true word of God the word which is now at work in you who believe."

Either Paul was being truthful or he was an arrogant liar worthy of stoning. God gave the apostles the word just as He did with Moses and the prophets. And Paul primarily preached to gentiles, not Jews. Peter also preached to gentiles (Cornelius for one).

If you want to criticise others for misusing scripture, I suggest that you get a better understanding yourself.

U FILL FIT TO CRITICIZE ME? LOL
WE CAN CHANGE OUR LIVES,
NON BELIEVERS DO IT ALL THE TIME.

SO, U SAY BECAUSE THE APOSTLES CLAIM WHAT THEY WROTE AND SAID IS THE WORD OF GOD, SO THEREFORE IT IS.
"I SPEAK THE TRUTH OF GOD, HOW DO U KNOW, BECAUSE THE WORD OF GOD IS ALWAYS TRUTH, AND SINCE IM SPEAKING THE WORD OF GOD, WHEN I SAY MY WORDS ARE FROM GOD, THEY MUST BE"
SORRY CIRCULAR LOGIC 101A

PAUL OPPOSED THE OTHERS ON THE DOCTRINE OF BEING FOCUSED ON THE LAW OF MOSES. PAUL DIDNT SAY DIREGARD IT, BUT THAT IT ISNT WHAT BRINGS SALVATION, ONLY THRU JESUS DO YOU GET IT. GET IT?

THE APOSTLES DIDNT EVEN BRING UP IF NEW BELIEVERS HAD TO BECOME JEWS, OR IF THEY NEEDED TO AGREE TO STRICK OBEDIENCE TO JEWISH LAW BASED ON THE TEN COMMANDS, UNTIL WELL INTO ACTS.
SO, IF THEY DISAGREED, WAS GOD DISAGREEING WITH HIMSELF? A HOUSE DIVIDED CANNOT STAND. U KNOW WHO SAID THAT?

SO, IF THEY DISAGREED ON STUFF, THEN OBVIOUSLY EVERY WORD THEY UTTERED WAS NOT DIRECTLY FROM GOD. MOSES'S LAW WAS DIRECTLY FROM GOD.

PAUL, AT FIRST PREACHED TO JEWS, BUT SAY THE FUTILITY OF IT, AND LET IT BE IN THE HANDS OF THE OTHERS. THE OTHERS ACTUALLY THOUGHT , AT FIRST, THAT THE TEACHINGS OF JESUS WERE FOR THE JEWS ONLY.
BUT PAUL KNEW BETTER AND WENT TO PREACH TO THE GENTILES BECAUSE NOBODY ELSE WAS.

I DONT FOCUS ON OTHERS, BUT BY TELLING ME TO LOOK IN THE MIRROR, THATS WHAT U R DOING.

I CALL IT OUT WHEN PEOPLE MISTAKINGLY OR ON PURPOSE MIS USE THE WORD OF GOD, WHICH I SEE A LOT OF HERE

I DONT EXPECT TO CHANGE ANY OF THE STIFF NECKED HERE, BUT I KNOW OTHERS READ WITHOUT POSTING, AND THE WILL SEE THE FALLACY OF OTHERS IF I POINT OUT THE FALLACY OF WHAT THEY SAY.

You are doing what you are saying others are doing.

First, the word of God must be taught as a foundational truth and seen as the infallible, inerrant word of God. Written man Authored by God through the Holy Spirit. We focus on sin Because it is what God hates. And teach the eternal condition of man if not repented, surrendered to Christ and received salvation which is the food news.

The Gospel message is love that was DEMONSTRATED in the Vicarious Death of the Lord Jesus on the Christ.

His death Burial and Resurrection were all done for OUR SIN and OUR Eternal life.

There is no forward without repentance, surrendering your life, and receiving salvation. None of it can happen until one deals with the sin that God will never accept. WE all must be washed in the blood of Jesus.

The entire Bible is the infallible theopnuestos Word of God.

When God chose Moses to begin writing, all of that which Moses wrote in the Torah was God-breathed. The same goes for the Nevi'im and Ketuvim, and the 27 books we call the New Testament.

When God chose Abraham, God was exercising HIS sovereign authority in deciding to use a fallible human being to be the bearer of light to the nations of the world so that all would know there a God of salvation. All that Abraham's seed had to do was be faithfully obedient to our one true God and become light to the nations to draw the people of the world back to God.

Israel did not fulfill its purpose, so God became human to be that light in an effort to provoke Israel to fulfill its purpose. When Israel rejected the light, God partly blinded them and gave His disciples the power to be the witnesses to the light and become the vehicle by which the light would go out to the nations.

All of what comprises the written Bible (New and Old) is God breathed, and God was the one who taught His apostles and disciples in the Church age what to teach and what to write. And the New Testament writers tell us that we must repent, turn from our sins, put our faith and trust in our Blessed Hope the risen Christ, share the gospel message with the lost and the afraid, stop practicing sin, but confess our sins when we do fall into sin, and press forward in the race to everlasting glory by loving and obeying God and others created in His image.

Jesus is our rest, He fulfilled the ceremonial law by his unblemished atoning sacrificial death, and became our Blessed Hope by His death, burial, and resurrection. Jesus commands all that follow Him to FOLLOW His example, which means to turn from sin.

Yes, people love to cherry pick phrases or verses and use them to mean one thing ; however, when put into context of the entire text, these verses, etc. tend not to mean what people imagine them to. And, yes, historical context is also very important. As an example, the phrase "the whole earth/world" in the Babel account of Genesis to a person living several thousand years ago, was just a very small piece of what we today call the Middle East. Many times too, due to translations and copying of texts over centuries, you can end up with two what seems like two complete versions of the same account.
