Hello all!

How to introduce myself? This may be difficult as I am reserved when first meeting people. Here goes...

I am a young man studying to be an architect. I was drawn to architecture at a young age because it is a very logical / mathematical field and because architects fulfill one of the basic needs of human beings (there's good job security). I live fairly minimally because I don't see much value in building up worldly possessions. I have dipped my toes into the work field before but it was tough for me to sit for 8 hours a day at a computer screen at a desk simply because I like to be active. I have a bit of a free spirit. Whether it's climbing a mountain to see the sun rise or a thunderstorm glide eastward at dusk, or whether it's dropping everything to drive somewhere above the lights to watch the stars move across the sky, or whether it's dancing the night away to a tune on the guitar, or whether it's paddling downriver among the pine-clad hills, I like to take every opportunity I can to marvel at and experience creation.

I am excited to join this community. I am different from all of my peers and have been aware of this for a long time. As a result, I find myself feeling very alone in this world, despite believing the Spirit of God lives in me. I believe the Spirit has revealed to me recently that this loneliness is currently an enabler of my sin. To wage war against this spiritual force of evil I join this community seeking to set my mind on things above and be encouraged by your faith. I have a lot to say about a lot of things so I hope to be an active and positive contribution to this site. I am far from perfect.

To end this beginning: my favorite verse.
"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery." (Gal. 5:1 NIV)

Nice to meet you and so glad the Lord led you to CC! It sounds like you have a real gusto for life and that's good. You won't be alone here, we are all parts of one 'Body of Christ'. I look forward to your posts and may God bless your desire to be an architect!

Welcome. Loners have a different set of issues from more outgoing types. I was horrified when I read that God sets the solitary in families. I was more than happy being solitary. I shuddered at the thought of living other than alone. But God is in the business of transforming us. I'm still ok on my own, but I have no problem sharing with others either.

Dear NFH, welcome! Just this morning I was reading how Christ was tempted--in the wilderness. He was tempted while alone. Often for faithful believers, it is difficult, especially now with the shallowness of so many of our churches to have true Christian friends--I am in the same place and it is painful. I am still trying to understand how God is our friend--"a very present help in times of need." As humans we desire community and connection. I am praying that for you now. "Father, you say you, "place the lonely in families." please give NFH a community of believers to be a part of --where he can feel loved. Give him people that he can be there for too--in your Son's name, amen.

Seeing how you really enjoy an active lifestyle perhaps you might consider another type of career study besides architecture. Regardless, I wish you well in your studies. I have lived fairly minimally too as I have made it a point to travel light on my life's journey and not to get bogged down in material trappings. Excited to have you onboard with us in this community. There are others here that can tell a story about loneliness too so please know that you are not alone in this. Welcome to CC.

Thank you all for your words. I have already been blessed by this community.

Some more about me:

An observer would have no reason to think I was lonely. I come from a large Christian family, although we are dysfunctional (not used lightly). I have a group of friends from college and a closer group of friends from high school. Our close group gets together when we can and meets in Discord to play video games several days a week when we can't be physically together. It's nice to have friends like that but none of them are Christian. The video games I really like to play have an older community so I stand out. I belong to a great church community with good male role models. There are a couple of men there who I can really depend on and talk to about my deep thoughts.

However, I have yet to find someone my age who can be a support and likes to go on adventures. Hiking a mountain or going to an amusement park is fun with friends, but I can imagine how much more filling it would be to do those things with someone I knew would also be in Heaven one day.

I have expressed myself in the past through poetry and am currently attempting to express my worldview through creative writing.

When I think about what it means to take up my cross and follow Jesus, I wonder if loneliness is something I will have to bear the rest of my life. I am willing, but know I will and have failed in my own strength. I have faith that God is transforming me daily to be more like Christ.

I have never been stubbornly set on architecture because I have always thought that if God called me somewhere else I would drop everything and go. An option I have considered is a career in politics because I have ideas and opinions. I am reluctant to take that route because I believe the trait of wanting to be a politician is a bad trait for a politician to have. Also, I pledge allegiance to the party of the Lion and the Lamb before any worldly creation (I have no intentions of starting political debate on this site). Another option I have considered is a position in a national park or somewhere I can be outdoors all day, but I don't like the idea of working in the public sector. So for now, architecture is a good option.

I like that national park idea a lot. Could be a viable career path to pursue based on your aptitude and love of nature.

Hello!

Welcome to CC, we are so happy to have you here :)

I am also impressed how open you are about yourself, not many people share that much right off the bat. But glad to know you are an open individual who seems very genuine about life and loving and his children:).

Very happy to have you here ^_^

God bless!
