A dear friend to mine and many, many others has passed.

That's a lie. He was more than a friend. He was a former client, a mentor, and something of an adopted uncle. I think a lot of folks would say the same about him, actually. A good, good man.

My time with him was a blessing. And while I have not seen him for close to a year, my heart really aches as a result. But I know people who will take it harder. So pray for them and me.

As for my friend, I know he is well. If they have cigarettes in heaven, he's standing on some balcony and lighting one up with another, much more irascible friend of his. What a pair. I look forward to seeing them both again.

As a smoker who has abstained for over the last 6 months I found the smoking in heaven reference to be comforting. Sorry about your loss, but as they say, or at least I do, he is now in a better place. I like that word 'irascible'. I don't know what it means without a google search but it sounds like a fun word.

Haha. Well the good book doesn't state either way, so I am taking Christian liberty. Jim and Ron were two good Christian men who smoked like chimneys. Funny part is, it wasn't the smoking that got either of them in the end. They were probably better off for the increased concentration and stress reduction.

I love it too. Fun word.

I fully concur with your estimation that they were probably better off. There is such a thing as quality of life rather merely quantity of life. Best case would probably be rough balance of the two. I like fun words.

I'll tell you, good ol' Ron's picture could be next to irascible in the dictionary. He was an old Marine and Vietnam War vet. At some point in the 70's, he lost all patience with stupid people and I loved him for it. Fun guy.

Exactly. That appreciation for quality of life (as we are defining it here) is increasingly lost on people today. I just look at the COVID mess and sigh.

One of the major causes for people ending up dead will be lit up again in Heaven? 😱

Sorry for your loss Desdichado.

Getting higher in numbers myself I get that 'lost all patience' aspect. In your friend Ron's case, irascible would probably be synonymous with 'crusty'. In my case, 'rusty' would be more apropos.

People die for all sorts of reasons. Some of them are present in the afterlife- work, food, and so forth.

Just broke up with my now ex-girlfriend too. What a week.

Lord give me strength before I rely on Mr. Jack Daniels.

If you broke up with her, why would you need Jack?
Jack will always let you down. Oh, sure, he'll get you up for awhile. But alcohol is a depressant. When you come down, your life will be waiting for you. Only now you'll have additional baggage to add to it. Like, hangover, injuring your liver and brain. Drunk dialing the ex maybe, and not remembering what you said, etc....

Rely on God. Meditate. Pray. Take a walk and breathe in His living proof of creation. Appreciate you have one more minute, hour, day, week, month, year, of life. Because in the time it took to write this, countless people breathed their last.

You don't need an alcohol crutch to get through! That's weak.
God's always got your back!
If you have Jack in the house, clean your kitchen pipes by pouring him down the drain. Then recycle the bottle, after you rinse it of course. Show yourself who's boss.
Hint: It ain't Jack!
Unless you want him to be.

Is he in Heaven?
Is he in Hell?
That demmed illusive Pimpernel

Funny you mention that. I read The Scarlet Pimpernel because he had a copy lying around his house. Things come full circle sometimes.

yea but the kingdom of god is with in.

We seek him here, we seek him there,
Those Frenchies seek him everywhere.
