My lack of a family or significant other has certainly taken some enthusiasm out of my prepping. Despite that I have still put away about 6 months worth of food, but would like to stockpile more. I have also installed a small solar system to keep the lights and refrigerator going if needed. Water is the next issue I would like to resolve it by putting in a well, but the solar system took a very large chunk of coin to build and that's making pulling the trigger on a well a harder decision. However there is a spring about 300 feet from my house but the water would need to be filtered and possibly boiled to be safe to drink, but at least I wouldn't die of thirst.

About 6 months ago I changed Churches and 2 Sundays ago the Pastor revealed he is a Prepper and the Church has stored up over 10,000 freeze dried meals. Actually his exact words were 10's of thousands of meals.

The best way to prepare is to share about Jesus Christ being Lord, tell others of this new life, be a witness of the resurrection.

I see no reason why I can't do both so that's what I'm going to continue doing.

Oh wow; maybe it wasn't a great idea to publicly state the quantities. Now the members AND all their families and friends will go to your church first in case of an emergency.

Better hope the water doesn't go out.

It's a small Church and I believe most of the people in the congregation already knew about the stockpile of food. I also believe the Church plans on sharing that food with who ever needs it whether it's a member of the Church or not.

Filtered is better...if the water contains magnesium salts boiling it is only going to create a "milk of magnesia" style laxative.

For whatever reason reverse osmosis doesn't seem to be as popular as multi stage filters.

Personally, I prefer running water to any other type... running water can be turned into power and even electricity if need be. Just a matter of harnessing it.

Filtered water doesn't remove dangerous parasites that might be present. The spring near my house is frequented by numerous animals which could introduce those parasites into the water so boiling would be a wise precaution.

When I was house shopping I tried to find a home with a decent size creek running through it but with a low housing budget I was unable to find exactly what I wanted.

I need me a prepper man. But not extreme, I don't want to do the whole bomb shelter thing and all. LOL But I would consider a ranch.

Actually some of the new filters and filtration systems can remove bacteria...
LifeStraws actually boast that you can put it in a mud puddle and suck up clean water parasite free...but they are just the popular one at the moment.

I will say though that they are extremely portable and convenient. Especially if traveling.

Lots of new technology in water filtration out there. And actually one of the hottest new things to install in your home.
Because of the lack of available labor and other issues people are buying a home filtration system and putting it on their homes. They no longer have confidence in the city's water in the taps.

And actually it's not a horrible idea...

We aren't talking about one of those dorky things you put on the kitchen faucet either but one on the main water line coming into your home.
If for whatever reason the city water supply becomes contaminated...these systems can be a great stop gap.

And it's not like the city water company is always great about telling you when they haven't really purified the water sufficiently either... everything from medicines to chemicals and lead has been found in the city's water...and these systems can remove that.

There are lots of various models and systems to choose from. Capable of filtering and removing just about anything from your water...but maintenance costs and timing vary widely. Reminders to change filters and etc are going to be critical.

I know about these systems from a different perspective. I'm a stock market investor watching trends...

I can tell you all about Dow Chemical...(which makes filter parts) and have witnessed their jump in sales in that section of their business...but actual retail systems I know very little about...I have heard of a few but that's about it.

Ferguson plumbing might have a few names and products to bandy about...

But otherwise Google is your friend.

Well when I buy the farm...I'm probably going to get intimately familiar with this stuff...there isn't a lot of fresh water in the rural areas...city water is what it is....water supplies are maintained by Bubba who was the lowest bidder.

Meaning as soon as he stops fighting with his sister he might get something done if he ain't too drunk.

And if things go well for us...that might just happen in a couple of years.
