Rom 1:18, For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
Nice to contemplate that verse ----this verse to me says -----that we should know the Truth but we choose to Suppress it and do our own thing ---so we get what we deserve by ignoring it ------God's wrath

-But contemplating the whole piece of scripture gives an important message ----especially verse 19-20 says that everyone has no excuse to not know of God as He has made it plain to them ----

Romans 8 ESV

God's Wrath on Unrighteousness

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.

19 For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.

20 For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world,[g] in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

21 For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.

22 Claiming to be wise, they became fools,

23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves,

25 because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever! Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature;

27 and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.

29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips,

30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless.

32 Though they know God's righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them.

Rom 1:18, For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
If you take in the context of what Paul is saying here, he is striking at the heart of ignoring who He is.

Paul is telling us that God hates sin and man who will not acknowledge Him will feel His wrath.

Then he brings out the foolishness of evolution, here ignoring who God is, failing to give Him honor.

Then an example of the results of ignoring God, homosexuality.

So what I see, if man fails to acknowledge God he is "holding the truth in unrighteousness."

Which means the wrath of God is coming, and must come!

It was probably around 10 years ago when I was on an atheist site and my first post I just gave them the Gospel, my focus was John 3:16.

I didn't condemn, just gave them the love of God through His Son. My alert box exploded with replies, "so it's God' way or the hiway, God doesn't tell me what to do, if there is one, etc, etc.

I thought of Rom. 1 and told them all of us are born with the knowledge of a Supreme Being and nature itself is proof of God. Then I told them they were "holding the truth in unrighteousness" failing to give God the glory. That was the end of my membership on that site!

No need to be angry .Pray for those who persecute you. If someone insults you, you should be happy, because the kingdom of heaven belongs to you.

I always like the next verse (Romans 2:1 because that was Romans 1, not 8... but don't let that distract us from the next verse...)

"Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things." - Romans 2:1 KJV

Isn't that an amazing verse to follow the others? Just when we start thinking "YEAH! You let them know what's up! I can't wait to see what happens in the next chapter" And then WHAM! he turns it onto US who sin just as truly as them.

Love in Jesus,

I suspect the reason somehow relates to Philippians 1:17
(NASB) the former proclaim Christ out of selfish ambition rather than from pure motives, thinking that they are causing me distress in my imprisonment.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;”

you know sometimes I marvel at how well God knew what he was doing when he made this universe. one fundamental law that science proves in this universe is cause and effect you this and naturally this will happen what did you expect? Another good way to look at it as through the eyes of a parent you can warn your kids not to do things that will get them hurt but if they don't listen and end up getting hurt it's their fault they were warned and knew not to do it.
The same idea goes with doing what we know not to do, God warned us just like a parent what will happen if we live in sin if we end up hurting ourselves because we refused to listen it's on us

There is no question that the truth is being seriously suppressed in unrighteousness today, and this is all over the world. We should therefore expect an outpouring of divine wrath in the near future. Perhaps it is already happening in parts of the world and we do not see it.

Actually we should be seeing an un-divine outpouring of wrath by satan against the church before seeing divine wrath. Satan's has always persecuted the church but there will come a time when his wrath is great due to losing a war, being kicked out of heaven, and knowing his time is short, Revelation 12. He will wage a war against Christians, seen in Revelation 13 and 11. This is known as the Great Tribulation.

Rom 1:18, For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
I always believed this was directed at the unbelievers.........and Gills Exposition seems to say the same thing......

EXCERPT:

The apostle having hinted at the doctrine of justification by faith in the righteousness of Christ; and which he designed more largely to insist upon in this epistle, and to prove that there can be no justification of a sinner in the sight of God by the deeds of the law, in order to set this matter in a clear light, from hence, to the end of the chapter, and in the following ones, represents the sad estate and condition of the Gentiles with the law of nature, and of the Jews with the law of Moses;

I had tried to post a new thread that, if it had been approved, might have turned the tide in the war against the Antichrist spirit and its attempt to implement the Antichrist agenda in this day and age.

In the thread, I mentioned that the Antichrist agenda will not be able to have full sway until after "the power of the holy people has been scattered" (Daniel 12:7).

But when the voice of the holy people is being suppressed by those who are in control of whether their words will actually be heard or not (who have the power to censor them), I wonder whether the power of the holy people has not already been scattered.

Because if in the things that matter to the war, the voice of those who can make a difference is censored and the truth suppressed so that in the absence of the truth being proclaimed concerning a specific subject, the voice of liars will prevail.

Something that is spoken by those who have the truth may indeed even be able to turn the tide in this war; but when that which is spoken is not allowed to be entered into the conversation, the tide will not be turned;

And what these people do not realize, who are siding with the Antichrist spirit in this war by censoring that which is of Christ's Spirit, is that they are contending for their own condemnation.

Because the vaccine mandates are one step away from the mark of the beast.

And if no one stands up to what is going on now, the next step will be taken and it should be clear, that in Revelation 14:9-11, it is written that if that step is taken, there is everlasting condemnation for all those who take the mark.

And if someone is working on the side of those who are working to implement the mark, they need to understand that they will not be exempt from the condemnation that is promised in Revelation 14:9-11. For they also will be required to take the mark when that time in history comes into play. For it will be required of everyone on the face of the planet at that time in history (Revelation 13:15-18).

The Antichrist agenda cannot be fulfilled until the power of the holy people has been scattered (Daniel 12:7).

Has the power of the holy people been scattered through big tech's censorship of specific things being spoken about specific subject matters?

It remains to be seen.

Perhaps someone in big tech will realize what they are doing and choose to side with Christ's Spirit on this issue; and the next time a post is made on Christ's side of the issue, they will let it through. And that particular post may turn the tide.

But as it is, the enemy is coming in like a flood; and if the Spirit of the Lord wishes to lift up a standard against him, it is doubtful that that standard will be lifted up on the internet.

Rom 1:18, For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,
Rom 1:18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
Rom 1:19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
Rom 1:20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Rom 1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Rom 1:22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
Rom 1:23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

It says the wrath of God is revealed and that is because creation testifies that there is a higher power that created al things and of His attributes which one of them is love for He provided food, and the means to make clothing, and shelter, so the world is without excuse and testifies of the 2 greatest commandments love God and love people for if a higher power created all things and love people then they should love this higher power and love people.

But they did not want to believe it because they loved unrighteousness.

The Bible says they knew God but they did not glorify Him as God and it seems like they tried to limit God to the creation by honoring Him as an image of a created being instead of being the God that created all those things.

Brother justbyfaith The scripture you gave to consider is a fine reminder to the need for each believer to have at least two tools in their tool box, balance, and order. This scripture in Rom follows after the scripture found here(Gal 6:7)

For at least to me as a disciple balance is order! ( Proverbs 11:1,goes with 2 Peter 3:17-18) And we know as a soldier for Christ we must stay in order in the Body of Christ! ( 1 Cor 14:40) For indeed sooner or later in ones life the result will become known to all around us,we can no longer lie to ourselves any longer, for the crown we must have is at stake!!( James 1:12!!) Thanks brother for that reminder!!
