It is quite true that Paul said that about heresies (divisions): 18 For first of all, when ye come together in the church, I hear that there be divisions among you; and I partly believe it. 19 For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you. (1 Cor 11:18,19)

So what is Paul telling us? (a) there will be divisions within local churches because some will be presenting heresies and (b) the Holy Spirit will show Christians which doctrines and which teachers are to be approved and which are to be rejected. "There must also be heresies" means that they are to be expected.
So, I guess the real question is, how do we define "heresy"?
Sorry, I'm not giving up bacon!

I gave up Sausage Egg McMuffins in order to tell Jesus that I love Him more than those savoury meats.

I'm still having trouble resisting the Chicken Tater Melts at Jack-in-the-Box late at night, which contain bacon.

I believe that we will be called greater in the kingdom if we can be obedient to the food laws (Matthew 5:17-20).

However, obeying them is not necessary for salvation by any means (1 Timothy 4:1-6).

I am basically retired...but when I worked I worked in the food industry.

I now spend most of my time reading my Bible and posting on these message boards.

Can we be perfect in this world?
Of course we can because the father looks at us through the blood of his son, and it is his righteousness we put on, his perfection in following the father's will.

We however can never be perfect within ourselves because we still live in the FLESH. The flesh is always at war with the SPIRIT!

Our purpose here is to gather KNOWLEDGE (without knowledge the people perish),to have understanding through the Spirit,( leaning NOT on our own understanding, and to have wisdom.....wisdom is having an understanding of the knowledge the Spirit has taught you of the word, and wisdom in knowing WHEN & to WHOM to apply it.

Our mission in this world is to worship God, be Jesus' disciples and to spread the GOOD NEWS!

We are to be edifying one another,encouraging one another,even pulling each other from the fire ,tender hearted and forgiving one another.

Now I know that all here are not my brothers and sisters in the Lord. How you say bc the word teaches that NOT ALL that say Lord,Lord are truly in the vine.......but you know something that is NOT my cross to carry, that judgment falls into God's hands.

The word teaches us this BE SWIFT TO HEAR AND SLOW TO SPEAK!

If we would just follow our commission, let the Spirit lead and direct us, be a light for Jesus and love the brethren now that WOULD BE SOMETHING TO GET EXCITED ABOUT!

A few passages to contemplate...

Romans 6:6, Colossians 2:12;

1 John 1:5, 1 John 3:5 w/

1 John 5:20, 1 Corinthians 1:2, 1 Corinthians 1:30, 1 Peter 5:14;

1 John 3:5 w/ 1 John 4:17.

Preferably in the kjv, the NLT is also good.

With so many sources to choose from, we must trust God's judgement and forgive each other for our minor differences... If my neighbor condemns me for the length of my hair, I can easily shrug that off.

Every lawyer, every politician, every minion of Lucifer must laugh every time we argue among ourselves... How appropriate for the first chapters of Revelation to be about God's judgment upon the churches!
The bible is a book chocca with arguments, discussions and debates, every page somebody is disputing with someone else ... that is the Jewish way of arriving at the truth.

If Paul can't find somebody to argue with he invents someone ... he states his doctrine and then says "but someone will say ..." and so presents a counter argument in order to tear it down.

We are people with a heritage that is more precious than silver and gold ... of COURSE we are going to argue.

It doesn't mean we hate our opponents ...

There is a major difference between being perfect, and being covered (hidden) by Christ's perfect righteousness. Remember, Christ didn't have to hide... He had to be FALSELY accused!

Which is worse...
Incoherent useless tongue babbling, or tedious incessant argument?

I wonder how many come here earnestly seeking answers... but, are ultimately... discouraged.

If you are not glorifying Christ and defining the gift of faith and Spirit, then your babbling arguments are useless to those seeking meaning and redemption. Or, distressing to those simply seeking encouragement these days. Go ahead, call me a hypocrite! At least I look foreword to Jesus ending ALL argument soon!
