1 Corinthians 7:10-15
Easy-to-Read Version
10 Now, I have a command for those who are married. Actually, it is not from me; it is what the Lord commanded. A wife should not leave her husband. 11 But if a wife does leave, she should remain single or get back together with her husband. And a husband should not divorce his wife.

12 The advice I have for the others is from me. The Lord did not give us any teaching about this. If you have a wife who is not a believer, you should not divorce her if she will continue to live with you. 13 And if you have a husband who is not a believer, you should not divorce him if he will continue to live with you. 14 The husband who is not a believer is set apart for God through his believing wife. And the wife who is not a believer is set apart for God through her believing husband. If this were not true, your children would be unfit for God’s use. But now they are set apart for him.

15 But if the husband or wife who is not a believer decides to leave, let them leave. When this happens, the brother or sister in Christ is free. God chose you to have a life of peace.

"
1 Corinthians 7
In his first letter to the Corinthians, Paul addresses the subject of divorce. While he strongly urges against divorce in most circumstances, in 7:15, Paul says a believer who has been abandoned by an unbelieving spouse is free to divorce and remarry—the believer is not “under bondage in such cases” (NASB).

However, a close reading reveals Paul parallels Exodus 21:10-11 with his instructions in 1 Corinthians 7. Spouses must not deny one another their conjugal rights (7:2-5), must not abandon or neglect each other (7:10-16) and must provide for each other (7:32-35).

Andrew Naselli summarizes: “Since Paul repeats the requirements of Exodus 21:10 and since Exodus 21:11 allows for divorce when those requirements are not met, the principle still applies: divorce is legitimate when those requirements are not met—that is, when one breaks the marriage covenant.”

Let us all pray for their spouse salvation and transformation in Christ. My Mom's boyfriend was just a month before death.

My Father was murdered going after wife number 18 on March 17 around 1993. He was a Sexton which is branch of Mormonism out of King Strang of Beaver Island in Michigan. My Mother was his first wife and she was not going to put up with multiple wives. Thus my Dad divorced her. She never remarried and was driven away from Free Methodist Church over bad attitudes of judgement against her.

Overall, you have described a horrible situation. I recall you having mentioned this a year or so ago. Sad.

?!

Sorry to hear that. I had never heard of Sexton but I had heard about the FLDS.
Is your mum ok - is she at peace? Is she a believer? I mean did she get over Mormonism.

18 wives is a lot. I dont know how that even works. Even with Islam, I think the limit was 4 wives.
Though King Solomon puportedly had 700!

Your mother did the right thing. I can't see how any woman would go for Mormonism.

eek. And Smith is such a common name too.
I think I would want to change it if my name was Smith....

Glad your mum knew the Lord.
How do you get on with the rest of your family, I suppose you must have many brothers and sisters...

There were over 60 children and we did live in a barn. Us oldest took the top floor. The adults used the Basement. We built the whole thing ourselves. We made the walls a foot thick. It is now an Restaurant in New Port, Michigan. I do not know if it still exists because I am 650 years old.

When Growing up, I lived with my Dad 6 months each year because He was teaching me to be his replacement as the prophet. One of my Mothers was Jewish and I attended Temple School.

When I became the Prophet, I had only one Revelation. 1) There will be no Prophet to replace me.
2) I disbanded the cult. 3) I told everyone to go out and live a normal life. 4) I forbidden plural Marriage. 4) I told the Brothers not to marry their Sisters. All the Women and Girls loved this. The guys hated it and hated me for it. The Barn was sold and money was divided among all the Mothers.
My Mother refused her share which went to me. My Mother's boyfriend went thru it quick for booze and drugs.

that is quite a tale
I wouldnt have believed it if I hadnt had read about mormonism before and probably would have told you must be pulling my leg.

Though one time one of my co workers in the library said she was born in a cult. I asked her what that was like and she said as a child it was fun, so lived in a sort of hippie type commune far away from everyone on a farm but...when she got older it was not so great.

I can imagine and glad her parents left because there was this notorious cult called Centrepoint that was north of my town and the leader there was a sex offender and jailed for his crimes. Survivors say he just had sex with everyone there, including the children. And they all walked around naked.
