I have no problem with respect. Tongues is a precious thing to me and I do not appreciate it being wrote off as being demonic.
But then again, perhaps I'm being careless with my pearls.
I understand you man. 100% I get you and I agree with you. I don’t think you ever personally attacked/jabbed at anyone or their salvation. You’re a good guy I like your posts keep it up.

I quit arguing from scripture the validity of tongues a long time ago because good arguments can be made on both sides. I don't call myself a cessationist because that's too much like putting God in a box.

The validity of anything has to be measured by where it comes from. Do modern tongues come from God or man? Anyone who has done the research can easily point to its origin, who originated it and why. The so-called "holy" men of God who were involved are actually little more than scoundrels and con artist.

Ahh Ok I see. So what do you believe about the Holy Spirit and the spiritual gifts. And do you think miracles still happen the way they did in the Bible?

I already know the answers; I'm just wondering if you know. You say we should give tongue-talkers the benefit of the doubt; but what do you actually know about the origins of the modern tongue movement? I can tell you with 100% certainty that it wasn't a spontaneous move of the Spirit.
Actually, I have done a comprehensive study of the Pentecostal movement right through from the early church through to the present day. I have completed church history at mastorate level and therefore know exactly how the modern Pentecostal movement started, who it started with, and how it grew to be the movement that it is today. In actual fact, it all started with a spontaneous move of the Spirit upon a small group of Bible students and spread from there. Don't under estimate the old guys here. We know more than you think we know.

A lot of people seem to know a lot about God on these forums, but I'm not convinced that many really know God at all.
I saw Yeshua ride His horse down the bottom of the snow-covered mountain. He was in His majesty. He wasn't too far from me as He turned His horse towards me. Then the window of heaven closed.
I was left standing there, a heavy weight on me that slowly pushed me over backwards. It took me 15 seconds to reach the floor. I saw a tongue of fire fly into the room. It flew into my chest and I began to shake violently. Tongues burst out of my mouth as I heard Him place proclamation and prophetic utterance in me.
In a few minutes I stopped shaking and got up off of the floor. This is a precious memory of mine and it bothers me when I hear someone say tongues is of the devil.

Wow, I don’t even know what to say. I so hope you are not lying. But by your character I feel that you are not. You do not lash out like I do sometimes (this is based on your posts as I do not know you personally), and you even admitted that you may be casting your pearls wrongly in response to something I said. All I’m trying to say is that you act somewhat different, that’s all.

Hey, would you mind posting that full experience you had, and what happened previously. Like your life before. Basically a detailed testimony of the experience and of your life. I’m surprised there isn’t a testimony forum here lol. Maybe there is but I haven’t seen it. Thank you so much, have a good day.

I was at a low point in my life when He did that stuff. So don't think I'm somebody special because I'm not. He is. I was at a 5-day ministry retreat when He did that. Sometimes He shows me things...I've been told it's a gift. I'll think about it and I'll let you know if I want to write more.

Tongues threads always turn out like this, no matter how they start. Should tell us something about attitudes.
Acts 28:22 KJV
But we desire to hear of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we know that every where it is spoken against.

It almost seems unnecessary to say but that's truly a sad thing. The very gift God gave so we can pray in Spirit and build ourselves up on our most holy faith gets spoken against. :(

Love in Jesus to you,
Kelby

The body of Christ needs this gift. And we need each other. Especially at this point in time.

Before Christ, the Pharisees taught the Law. Every Jew was held to the Law before Christ. It's a no brainer why the Synagogues were full. They were under the Law.

Now, after Christ, that example of the Pharisees and Law have no bearing.
I realize it's been more than two weeks since this was posted but it has been on my heart ever since that I need to correct a slight misunderstanding of meaning. (Not a malicious mistake nor a malicious correction).

My original statement in Post #361 was that the Scribes and Pharisees filled the pulpits in Jesus' day and they are still filling them today.

Your reply was in regards to why the synagogues were filled. Synagogues of Jesus day = churches of today... and indeed the churches of today do get filled.

But it is important not to miss the point about the PULPITS. Please consider it carefully as if it is NOT a small point.

How many who occupied the pulpits in Jesus' day were supporting him in the PULPITS? (I basically don't see any, biblically, because those in power would have thrown them out of their positions just as they agreed together to cast the believers out of the churches)

What would that mean if a person was a member in good standing in their local synagogue and thought they had a good priest?
Would they be able to trust what their priest said if they asked him about the validity of Jesus' teachings? Would that be a safe way to conduct themselves?

It saddens me to see how many take that failing approach today and actually think they're safe.

Love in Jesus,
Kelby

Well it may bother you brother and that is a thing to be mindful of. But your sorrow is no basis for anyone to be removed from their sincere belief. No matter how they came by it. You shouldn't receive flattery from anyone. The church is filled with harmful people and make no mistake about it. We just cannot accept what is visible and self evident. So we make cakes and tell one another that we are children and have a pity party or a praise party or just a plain old fashioned party. It's all worthless except to the participants and even then it is often quietly reflected as worthless in the night when we wake up and ask ourselves what happened.

The body of Christ needs this gift. And we need each other. Especially at this point in time.
We are headed to a time when there will be no stomach for the false praise and endless boastings that are utilised to uphold madness and carnality in the churches where weak men and women are lifted up because they serve as a cover for wicked men and women who are simply upholding their own greed and evil pride of life - and the weak and broken men and women who ought to have been healed in truth serve to garner their praise and thus hide their harm. May that time come swiftly.

We know Charles Fox Parham spent time at Frank Sanford's Shiloh commune in Maine (prior to Agnes Ozman's "spontaneous" tongues experience), where healing and tongues were already in use. Meanwhile, back in Topeka, Parham primed his students to get the gift of tongues; it didn't just happen. They weren't praying, "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done." They were praying, "We want this, now give it to us."

Shortly after Ozman got her "gift," Parham reported to the papers that this was the first outpouring of the gifts of the Spirit since Pentecost.

So let me ask you: Doesn't this at the very least make Parham a liar and a publicity hound? He knew "tongues" were already in use at Shiloh but he wanted credit for it. But this is just the tip of the iceberg.

I don't attack people for their sincere belief. A motto of mine is, "You may disagree with me but I'll defend your right to disagree with me." - In accordance with your wisdom, let's ban Christians, since there are so many false ones. - I'm a strong promoter of the seminar, "The Divine Plumb Line." I understand about selfish ambition in the church and what it's like to be used for my anointing. I also understand what it's like to be weak and broken. - Give me a handful of believers and a house to hold meetings in, and I'll be a happy camper. But don't tell me to stifle the Holy Spirit because I won't !!!

The good news is that whilst I directed what I said in part to your own words - I also wrote what I said to what I can see in this thread. Save your breath brother. It's wasted on this man.

To answer your post
Well CS1 gave in post 405 a good description from the word of God.

The second answer is a little difficult.
I dont know, it helped other Christians.
See, i am and was in churches, which are open for pentecostal/charismatic teachings, without practices them. That means they say yes, this teachings are for today, but says no for practices them. F e. speaking in tongues.
Thats strange in my eyes.
But in the same way, they ignore my warnings. Some of our leaders are very open for an RCC CHARISMATIC Preacher, who claims to be baptised with the Holy Spirit and have also the gift of speaking in tongues and also claimes that the teachings of the RCC are biblical. I told them that this cant be the Holy Spirit, because he would not teaches lies.
One sister asked me if it is ok to listen teachings of angels with extrabiblical revealations. And I told her that there is an different Spirit behind this teachings. She still is believing in this teachings.
I only can say that I could recognize if teachings where from a different Spirit.
And it seems to me that many believers have not this gift to discern the spirits.
let's not be strangers...even if strange to each other

but let's be honest also

you have exchanged hundreds of posts over the years with people here...both with this profile and the one you had before as wolfwint

you have mocked, disagreed and ignored all scripture presented to you and by now, folks are fatigued with your anti tongues beliefs as you have inserted yourself into each and every thread about tongues and done a repeat performance

and you still believe in your teaching. a nominal Christian would not encourage the nonsense you describe above

the Holy Spirit does not teach lies. However many seem to believe lies. and not the Holy Spirit
