Hello, I'm new here. I suppose that much is obvious. I guess this is where I'm supposed to describe myself a bit. I'll try to be brief. :)

I was raised Catholic growing up, so I guess I've always been a Christian (I won't do the Catholic vs. Protestant debate), but I became a Protestant specifically for my first wife (I'm a widower from my first marriage, divorced from my second marriage). Early on in our marriage, she tricked me into going to a "concert" on a whim. We were young, in our twenties, so of course I said "yes" to a concert. Little did I suspect, it was not only a Christian concert at Saddleback Church, but it was a live recording of Rick Muchow's (RIP) Healing Grace album. I gave myself to Christ again that night, in a way I never knew as a Catholic. She and I were both baptized by Rick Muchow (the music pastor at the time) at Saddleback Church.

After her death, and then the failure of my second marriage, I found my way back to the Catholic church. Indeed, I actually feel more at home when I attend Mass than I have ever felt at any Protestant worship service. That said though, even though I identify today as a Catholic, I prefer to regard myself as a general Christian (what some Catholics might call a "cafeteria Catholic," picking and choosing what we prefer from canon instead of ascribing to all of it). In my heart, I believe that as believers, all of us need to focus on the Great Reward, with our eyes on the Prize. The rest of it is extracurricular, in terms of theology, as far as I'm concerned. (I hope my dad never reads this; he's a Catholic deacon )

So, that's where I stand in terms of my faith. As for me, my user name is a play on words ("psycho vet"); I'm medically retired from the military. I really do need to surround myself with good Christian friends, so I hope to make a few on here. I've always enjoyed chatrooms; in the old AOL chatroom days, it was a good way for folks in the military to keep in touch and be entertained. I've been in other chat places on the net, and there seems to be just too much evil out there anymore; I don't need that stuff in my life (though I must confess my mind does go to those dark places once in a while - we all have our vices, I suppose). Hopefully I found a good healthy place on here to make friends and the sanity factor positive; I figure the devil won't tread when Christ's followers walk (though he's quite good at tempting us away from the trail at times).

That's it. I tried to be brief. I don't think I succeeded. My apologies. I promise my posts won't be as long. Maybe.

I forgot to mention my name!
My name is Joe. I live in southern California. I enjoy nerdy things I grew up with - Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica (old and new), and my hobbies include being a member of a couple of fan groups that dress in screen-accurate costumes and raise awareness for charitable causes, as well as visiting kids in hospitals (when appropriate), orphanage visits, etc. I'm also a podcaster.
I hope and pray for galactice peace (world peace would also do; it's a start anyway). I guess that was Cy Kovet's second post. At least this one was much more brief. ;)

I was born and raised a Catholic but haven't attended mass for years because of perceived conflicts in doctrine verses scripture. I have attended many other Protestant church services as yourself. This thing is, despite the conflicts, I always felt at peace when attended mass and not really so with the other services.

I remember the AOL chat rooms. I met my late second wife in the Romance Christian Single chat room in 2002 and was married the same year.

Glad to have you onboard with us. Welcome to CC.

Nice to meet you and glad you found CC😊 Since we are not perfected yet, there is a few squabbles here and there on some of the topics. So be suited up there or just avoid the endless back and forth on a few lol. God bless you and enjoy!

I cannot welcome you, sir. You got here before me. (haha)
Don't trip about sitting in a Catholic pew, bro. Their church is no cleaner or dirtier than any other. Jesus cares only about the heart and its response to His cross. As long as you have accepted the cross for all of your sins, you can sit wherever you like (IMHO). Fellowship crosses all lines and barriers.
As to being a vet, thanks for that. I, too, retired on a disability (burned out air traffic controller).
Be with God and He'll be with you (anywhere in creation). He's that big.

Hi! You sound like a really cool guy. Thank you for your service. I'm a Navy brat, and i was a military wife, too. I have connections to every branch. I do disagree with some things some Christians do, but they're still my brothers and sisters in Christ, and we can agree to disagree. If I'm ever off on something you feel is a salvation issue, please call me out. Actually, call me out wherever I'm wrong. I'm open to correction. I'm all about a healthy dialogue. Anyhow, it's so nice to meet you! Have a blessed day! I'm up too early, so I'm talking too much.
