Let's see I may have to go by top 10 series here..... because when you read lots of fantasy you end up with series:

In no particular order:
Dune
Ender's game and Speaker for the dead
Lord of the rings
Chronicles of Narnia
Watership down
Wheel of Time
Enchanted forest chronicles (yes it's a kid's series, no I don't care)
The Lunar Chronicles ( and not just because the first book is Cinder)
Discworld
AD Chronicles ( or at least all of the ones that I read of them)

If anyone get's all of those read, I can work on a second list.

No issues with any of them being kids books, every book on my list is 😂 I'm reading one fantasy rn called "Seventh Tower" by Garth Nix. It's a fun one.

Ever read Battle Royale? Hunger Games was "Inspired" by it from what I hear (I haven't read Hunger Games) The Battle Royale novel is great though. Avoid the manga though 🤢😳

Yeah I have only seen a little of the movie. It's about Japanese students who get sent to an island as a part of a government test and they all are given weapons. Last one standing wins. It's a rather mature novel so content warning lol.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen
The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand
Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett
Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean Auel
Black Storm by Thomas C. Hinkle

Add in others by the same first four authors and that is more than ten, though I have probably left
some faves off my list which I will remember when I wake up at three o'clock tomorrow morning

That last one I read more than once as a kid...

the Top Ten changes from week to week and year to year in my world so it would only ever be subjective

But in childrens fiction I would say these series are the top ten favourites overall for my school

Smile series by Raina Telegemier
Babysitters Club
Midwinter witch
Real Friends
Dog Man
Dork Diaries
Amulet
Bad Guys
Elephant and Piggie
Diary of a Wimpy Kid

In the bookshops it was

Seven Sisters series by Lucinda Riley
Anything by Lee Child
Jodi Picoult
Wilbur Smith
Danielle Steel (always got women confessing they had hundreds of them)
Animal Farm (schools always taught this)
The Alchemist (another classic)
The Midnight Library by Matt Haig (voted top book in Good Reads)
David Walliams (childrens...he publishes practically 3 books a year)
Manga series (Demon Slayer probably most popular)

sci fi /fantasy fans were a small but dedicated genre readers who went would go crazy over obscure authors and weighty tomes thats spanned trilogies and neverending 14 part sagas like
Game Of Thrones
Dune
Lord of the Rings
Wings of Fire
Twilight
Hunger Games
Divergent
Harry Potter
Skulduggery Pleasant
Chronicles of Narnia

Pillars of the Earth is a excellent book read that some years back on a deployment. Was hard to put down so the book was shorter than the deployment.......LOL

I read it and the sequel more than once :) There was also a mini-series made on both Pillars of the Earth and World Without End, which again I watched more than once. Ken Follett was involved in the production which assured they did not stray in the telling of the tale. I kind of joke about how World was getting a bit boring toward the middle of the tome, until the plague broke out and livened things up :giggle: Pillars, oh my, the depiction of evil within the established church was brilliantly portrayed by Ian McShane. Eddie Redmayne was such a dear as Jack the Builder; I have always enjoyed his acting, especially in period pieces. The story arc, plot lines and characters are all stellar. Ken Follett is such an excellent researcher and writer. Hard to go wrong with anything of his, I would think :D
