The Grim Reaper is often portrayed as an animated skeleton wearing a black cloak and hood. He carries a scythe that he uses to reap souls that are dying or elected to die.
Biblically the reaper is considered the destroyer, which is an angel who brings death. An angel in almost every appearance was depicted as something that just seeing would cause extreme fear. The angel would often have to reassure the individual that they are safe or even help them stand or speak as many individuals immediately couldn't stand due to fear. The 10th plague is one example of this angel called the destroyer in action. (There are handful of angels listed in scripture with names and how the serve God. Not all are the same either.)
Matthew 13:30
Let both grow together until the harvest, and at harvest time I will tell the reapers, Gather the weeds first and bind them in bundles to be burned, but gather the wheat into my barn.’”
Currently, the believers live among unbelievers until the day of the Lord. Jesus used an agricultural metaphor to connect a real-life truth to a supernatural truth. The day of the Lord is considered in scripture as either visitation or judgment. One day it will be too late, and the reapers will be sent forth.
1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.
John 1:29
The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
To escape this wrath, we must be supernaturally covered by the blood of the Lamb. The Lamb of God is Jesus Christ, whose blood was shed for humanity's sin. This was prophetically depicted in Exodus chapter 12.
Exodus 12:6-7
6 Take care of them until the fourteenth day of the month, when all the members of the community of Israel must slaughter them at twilight. 7 Then they are to take some of the blood and put it on the sides and tops of the doorframes of the houses where they eat the lambs.
The lamb's blood was brushed over the top and sides of the door to show the household's faith. That faith saved them from the angel of death.
Revelation 14:15
And another angel came out of the temple, calling with a loud voice to him who sat on the cloud, “Put in your sickle, and reap, for the hour to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is fully ripe.”
In the future, the harvest will be ready as evil will have become so ripe for destruction like the flood of Noah; it will be the season for judgment. The day of the Lord can be both a literal day or period of time (in scripture there are multiple times when the day of the Lord was for different events).
When that time comes, there is nothing anyone can do to stop the coming wrath on all that is evil. We often do not talk about this side of God as we love to focus on His love for us but God is also all just and hates evil.
