I've been listening to a lot of stuff lately about how some people are super sensitive to brutality...

And we somehow forget that crucifixion was extremely brutal and ugly.

We watch clips from the Ukrainian war and decry the brutality we see there.

We want to ignore all the brutality in the world and want a sanitized version of the effect of the Gospel. Even Mark Walberg is getting flack for "F" bombs in his new movie about how a man turned his life around and became a priest.

Am I wrong?

You're not wrong. The truth is that we live in a fallen world, and brutality is merely one expression of the sin that affects us all. People get their knickers in a twist over anything and everything. Although it is right to be upset about unnecessary violence and brutality, I suspect that many people who do get upset over it do little or nothing, or they ignore similar activities happening in their own communities, preferring the comfort of armchair condemnation.

I think Ukraine has been televised into peoples lives and for the first time it's dawning on people that America may not be such a bad place. Not to mention other parts of the world that have gone COVID crazy. America has been so blessed I think we thought nothing could touch us and even Canada. Suddenly it's like everyone woke up from a nice dream to the nightmare of what evil can really be.

America has been softened and sooked. Men are now expected to be like women. Everyone is offended by every little thing that is said. People are cancelled for using their right to free speech. Then they put a man in the WH that doesn't know his head from his tail. Yeah, people are waking up to reality. And it can get a lot worse than someone mis-gendering you. You could be murdered in the street on your way to the grocery while still on your bicycle.

Absolutely.

I've seen real racism...where people are starved and abused by an entire society because of their religion or heritage.
We don't have that in America.

But also...we say "crucified " as if it just means dying....
That's not true...of course people died from crucifixion. But that wasn't exactly the purpose. Humiliation and torture was the object of the exercise. Jesus was tortured to death. Slowly and painfully....and humiliated during the entire process. He was allowed no dignity the entire time. And He is God.

He could have stopped it at any point. Why try and save a bunch of worthless, savage, and disobedient people?

The "best" among them twist and contort the scriptures to license their sins.

I wouldn't do it.
I would say "I'm out" and go find something else to do. "To heck with humanity" is what I'd say on my way to get a pint of ale.

But today they don't even show clips from Mel Gibson's movie "the Passion" because people might be offended.

I don't get it....
That's the cost of our sins that happens to the ultimate innocent...the least you can do is admit that you caused it and see what your sins have done.

Thread Title ------Brutality Ignored?

Well ---it is watered down for sure ---even the nails are watered down as many preach His hands and feet were tied to the Cross not nailed to the Cross -------False doctrine ----being preached with tied ----

I personally don't know if it is just ignored or if a lot what happened to Jesus is from ignorance of lack of knowledge from the scripture -----Isaiah 52 ----describes the Suffering Servant ------ so it is told in the Old Testament ---Not the New Testament -------and many don't believe that Isaiah 52 is speaking of Jesus ----they believe it is speaking of the Jewish Nation -----

The Scripture tell the truth and it says nails ------

Strong's Concordance
hélos: a nail
Spike -- nail.

John 20:25 ESV
So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.”
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also --I personally think ---
That many do not know just how unrecognisable Jesus face was as a man -----

Isaiah 52:14 ERV
14 It is true that many were shocked when they saw him. He was beaten so badly that he no longer looked like a man.

Also--I believe many do not know or understand just how devastating the Flogging Jesus took was on His back ------so again ignorance of not understanding fully just how brutal this was -------and no movie ever depicted the true picture of what Jesus experienced ---except the Passion of the Christ ---by Mel Gibson and many left the theater when the flogging scene started ----- when I went to see it -----

The Flogging the Romans used was so brutal it would rip the Skin completely off the back of people -----not many would survive it ----

you can read for yourselves just how bad it was -------

https://www.cbcg.org/scourging-crucifixion.html
Scourging Practices
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I say
Also all that was accomplished by Jesus shedding His Blood is never talked about -----which is the sad part for me -------people have no idea that every where Jesus shed His Precious Blood it purchased something back that Satan took from us in the Garden ------this is so important to get -----in my view

read here ---
https://nathanandemilia.wordpress.com/2016/02/29/seven-places-jesus-shed-his-blood-its-

significance/significance/Here is the 7 places that Jesus shed His Blood for us and its significance in the area we have victory over and complete freedom from enemy.

1) The Sweating of Blood (In the garden of Gethsemane)

Luke 22:40-44 NKJV- When He came to the place, He said to them, “Pray that you may not enter into temptation.” And He was withdrawn from them about a stone’s throw, and He knelt down and prayed, saying, “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.” Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him. And being in agony, He prayed more earnestly. Then His sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground. This signifies that Jesus Won Back Our Willpower to resist temptation because He overcame the greatest temptation that was so intense, it caused Him to sweat blood.

2) The stripes on Jesus back and shedding of blood at the whipping post.

John 19:1 So then Pilate took Jesus and scourged Him.

Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
This signifies that Jesus has won back our Health. His body was broken so ours could be made whole.

3) He was bruised and suffered Internal bleeding from being beaten.

Isa 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities:
This signifies that Jesus won back our right standing with God & delivered us from our iniquities (Wickedness/Sin)

4) The shedding of blood when receiving the Crown of Thorns upon his head.

John 19:2 And the soldiers twisted a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and they put on Him a purple robe.
This signifies that Jesus has won back our Peace of mind and that we are free of torment. The enemy can no longer torment our minds.

5) The blood that was shed through Jesus’ Pierced Hands.

Matt 27:35 Then they crucified Him, and divided His garments, casting lots, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet: “They divided My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots.” (It was custom in those days to crucify people by nailing their hands & feet to the cross).
This signifies that Jesus won back our prosperity so that everything we put our hands to, shall prosper.

6) The blood that was shed through Jesus’ Pierced Feet.

Matt 27:35 This signifies that Jesus won back our dominion & authority

Gen 1:26 says “Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

Luke 10:19 says “Behold, I give to you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the authority of the enemy. And nothing shall by any means hurt you.”

7) The blood that was shed through the spear in Jesus side.

John 19:34 “But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.” The fact that blood & water flowed from his side symbolises that Jesus died from a broken heart, the intensity and anguish of the weight and burden of all of our sins that He took on Himself and our continual betrayal against Him was to much to bear & ultimately caused His Heart to stop beating.
This signifies that Jesus won back our Joy and healed us of our broken Hearts

it was bloody (the crucifixtion)
the blood shed for you and me

Not only was Jesus nailed and humiliated and physically flogged, he was also mocked, which may have hurt him the most. It was a walk of shame AND he had to carry his own cross.

I read in China the red guards would publically exectute anyone they didnt like but not only that humiliate them by writing and saying bad things about them (with signs and slogans) so that they could never walk down the street with their head up.

And in the US, if the KKK didnt like you, you got lynched (strung up in a tree) and your house got bombed.

In NZ there was inter tribal warfare. One chief hid in a kumara pit to avoid his enemies out to get him...they would have killed him, and eaten him and kept his head.

That is the origins of the famous haka dance which is an affirmation of being saved alive. Because his enemies couldnt find him in the kumara pit and he escaped with his life.

All things repeat, which call something is greater that other nations commenting horrible war, but that same type of war included in every take over, the Native Indians were experiencing some good and evil by its invaders, and forcefully had to except it, naturally they lived by their beliefs for many centuries before more modern versions they still predicted has failing that has happened to all nations that fall from superior power. Judging always loses power of grace and mercy is teaching your belief still based on old wine mixture with new wine you think is based on 2000 years ago that actually been since creation.

Isn't it amazing that God would allow His measly creations to "capture" Him, thinking that they were doing something good?

The whole story of the Bible is colossal and simply put, unbelievable in its Holy Purpose.

in Roman times, christians were fed to lions.

They were also burned at the stake
today, christians are still persecuted in various countries around the world though moden day its more likely through social media

but the whole tit for tat thing is not christian. So when someone shoots a whole lot of muslims in a mosque with a machine gun, and claims its a christian thing..um they have another think coming.

I think in US it depends on where you live, some parts HAVE been devastated by war and never fully recovered, and people still live in poverty like a third world country eg New orleans when it was trashed by hurricane Katrina

9/11 was pretty bad too.

However...the tendency to sanitise things is human because we DO have hope ...Jesus HAS risen from the dead, and our sins ARE washed away...so much so we may not even remember what hell it really was before.

Everything gets criticized by someone on the Internet. Like most people generally don't care about the usage of "F bombs", I certainly don't. Doesn't bother me one bit. It seems like people don't like brutality when it's their team that is losing.

I guess it comes down to, are we finding tales of brutality informative and are disgusted by it, or are we finding them informative and yet entertaining/we yearn to hear or see more of it? The answer of that will determine what spirit you are of.

In terms of bad language, Jesus would have heard it all from the mouths of sinners He walked amongst, yet He focussed on His mission, which is to save the sinners from their past and the immorality of the world. He spent much of His time teaching His disciples, and one of the things He would have taught was subsequently echoed by Paul "Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth, but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment, so that it will give grace to those who hear.". I can't see how expletives give any kind of grace to the hearers!

Gentleness and kindness is a trait of a saint. We can overcome evil by doing good. If we are abused, we should pray. Ask for God's help when people badly treat you. I have seen it several times. Someone threatens me. I take it to the Lord. I pray for the sinner and ask God to help them and remove them away from me. Next thing ya know, they are gone. Thank you Lord Jesus!

Depends on the culture from my perspective. In some cultures, what are often thought of as expletives by some are actually just innocuous words in someone's limited and crude vocabulary. So it certainly comes down to intention and knowing your audience. Try speaking intellectual or proper to some people and they might get offended like they're being talked down to.

As Paul said "I am made all things to all men, that I might by all means save some." That's about meeting people where they are, not necessarily where they need to be. This certainly requires wisdom and prayer, but I hope that helps you understand how expletives can be used to give grace to some hearers.

Weak men create hard times, and now we have the weakest men creating the hardest time. Like chocolate or strawberry, looking fabuloys from the outside, yet unable to withstand any heat or pressure.
