Yes. I have heard of it. I have also heard of the book of Revelation that says that as a result of the opening of the first four seals 25% of all people on earth die. Does that sound about right?

Could be. I'm not big on eschatology. Too many arguments, too many contrary opinions and everyone is right - according to themselves. What I am sure of is that nuclear war could easily end most, if not all, life. Even Putin knows that.

And what about Financial war? In a week the US has caused the Russian stock market to crash, two banks to go bankrupt and the ruble to lose 90% of its value. There are 144 million people in Russia. Their savings have just been stolen, their salaries destroyed, and they are all now "broke". Will this end life? Didn't Biden know this?

Do you think Russia will submit to the US telling them that we control your bank account?

How about the rest of the world, do you think they have been warned?

What happened when Trudeau did this to those who supported the Truckers? Didn't that cause a run on the banks by those who don't want Trudeau controlling their bank account?

We are at war, right now, this is war, and Putin has told the world he is all in. Putin will fight to the death before he folds.

Nobody wins a nuclear war. It will send the whole world back to the stone age.
What I am seeing is that people are much more interested in the word of God today than they were two years ago. Nothing like the threat of nuclear war to wake people up that they need the Savior.

Crises come and go. Something similar happened during the Cuban Missile crisis and when the World Trade Centre was attacked. People began to seek the Lord in those times as well. Sadly, it does not last.

If you were Putin and wanted to take back the Ukraine and restore the glory of Russia you would know that NATO and the US would fight you just as they did when you invaded Afghanistan. How do you prepare for that?

1. Between Russia and Ukraine you control the export market of wheat. You have to create a food shortage ahead of time, but if you do it will weaken the ability to fight against the invasion. Therefore I would see an attack on the global food supply as a prerequisite.

2. You have to make Europe dependent on Russian oil exports. That was a kind of obvious step that Trump warned Europe about, but they laughed.

But even if you have these two you know the first step that the US and NATO will take will be sanctions. How do you keep your economy from crashing?

3. I would expect Russia to make agreements with both the Saudis and China prior to invading Ukraine so that they could weather any attack on their currency. So then what agreement could you make? China wants Taiwan so fine, you support them on that, and the Mid East wants security so you agree to work with the Islamic union of nations to defeat Israel and replace the US in the Mid East.

OK, but you still have another problem, the US Javelins can wipe out your tanks. What do you do, if you invade Ukraine you get bogged down and they arm the Ukrainians to drain your country of all resources.

4. So I would expect that Putin would not invade with his best forces but his worst, expecting to lose them. Why would he do this? Well the sanctions allow him to attack the US reserve status of their currency as a response to their attack and so will be seen by the majority of countries as a just response (that is essential to get other countries to support Russia and not the US). Second, if they arm Ukraine and do things like sink your warship you can claim they started WWIII and so use tactical nukes. Meanwhile you get all of Russia into bunkers prepared for nuclear war. Then if they do nuke Russia it allows you to have a counterattack on the US which completely takes them out of the picture. If the US is experiencing a famine, massive inflation and the entire electric grid is out they will have far too many problems at home to worry about Israel.

This was the thinking in the "Winds of War". If Russia is preparing for WWIII you will see a number of actions beforehand just like we saw Germany sign the non aggression pact with Russia before invading Poland.

Putin has learned how to bluster, and now that he knows for a fact that the Western nations have no resolve, he will use the nuclear threat to get his way. The only way to deal with this is to challenge him to go ahead and see Moscow become a wasteland. He knows that is exactly what could happen. Russians have learned how to manipulate the West and that is exactly why Ukraine is in trouble.

There are two kinds of dogs, those that bark and those that bite. Putin is the kind that bites.

Well that is one plausible theory, the same country that allowed Germany to burn half the country to the ground in order to defeat them, the same country that weathered a nuclear holocaust in Chernobyl, that this country will simply slink away, in ignominious defeat to the great Joe Biden.

Maybe Putin didn't anticipate that NATO and the US would arm the Ukrainians, perhaps he ignored what took place when Russia invaded Afghanistan, maybe he never read the book or saw the movie "Charlie Wilson's war". Sure, he anticipated the sanctions, he was ready for that, but the javelins?

That is certainly one theory, perhaps Joe Biden is just a much better chess player than Putin. Sure, so far it is clear that the sanctions have completely failed, but who could have possibly predicted that NATO and the US would arm Ukraine with javelins, I mean they are like bazookas only better. Sure the Stinger missiles that we gave Afghanistan are the reason Russia was defeated there, but surely they never would have thought we would do the same thing in Ukraine? Maybe.

Still I think I will go with what I posted in post #29. I believe this is Putin's plan. He knows the only way he dethrones the US is if he goes nuclear and he is prepared to do that.

You forgot about the third kind of dog, the kind that sits in the corner of the kennel whining..........Biden fits that bill.

I think Biden and Kamala are in the wrong jobs. Kamala would do much better as a kindergarten teacher and Joe would be the perfect guy to market shampoo. He could sniff different kids hair and tell us which one smells the best.

I've been following this conflict closely. It has not gone according to script.

1. Russia has not sent inferior forces into Ukraine. Putin expected an overwhelming "blitzkrieg" victory. In his imagination, many Ukrainians would welcome Russia as the liberator. He could not have been more wrong
2. China is a smart nation. Many people underestimate the Chinese. China needs the West more than it needs Russia. The cold war ideological days have passed.
3. Saudi Arabia's interests align more with the US than Russia. For now, Israel and Saudi Arabia are getting along just fine. They have a mutual enemy, Iran. Russia and Iran are allies.
4. Nuclear war is the end of civilisation, and possibly of life. Look up "Nuclear Winter". This phenomenon has been known about for decades.

Russia is not the USSR. It cannot draw on the resources of Ukraine, East Germany, Poland and other former Soviet republics. The newest nuke in Russia's arsenal was developed in Ukraine, for example. Putin has delusions of grandeur. He is finding that you can't put the toothpaste back in the tube. If he uses the ultimate weapon, he will have nothing but ruins to rule over. If he survives.

We will see. The West in some ways has played it smart. Don't get directly involved but arm Ukraine instead.

The weak link is Germany. Shutting down their nuclear power plants was stupid. Becoming overly dependent on Russia was even worse. It reminds me of the 1930's, except in reverse. It's Europe appeasing Russia this time around. 2014 should have woken up Europe. So should the war against Georgia. Russia has shown willingness to go to war with little provocation. Ukraine's military has assumed the worst for a long time and was well prepared for Russia's invasion.

I don't have your powers of perception, I have no idea what Putin imagined. I can only look at what he has done. Also I can only go by what I hear and the accounts of what I have heard are not describing an elite fighting force. I find it hard to believe we have seen Russia's finest army, but again, I am only going on the reports I have heard.

2. China is a smart nation. Many people underestimate the Chinese. China needs the West more than it needs Russia. The cold war ideological days have passed.
I am very familiar with China, my dad was born in Shanghai and I lived in Taiwan for 8 years. China views themselves as the true world leaders with the US being an upstart child that came along during a bad episode in their history. I have no doubts that China is not interested in maintaining the status quo of being the cheap labor serfs to support the profligate Americans.

3. Saudi Arabia's interests align more with the US than Russia. For now, Israel and Saudi Arabia are getting along just fine. They have a mutual enemy, Iran. Russia and Iran are allies.
Saudi Arabia's interest align with Saudi Arabia. If Russia takes over the role of providing security to the Middle East then they will do whatever they need to do.

4. Nuclear war is the end of civilisation, and possibly of life. Look up "Nuclear Winter". This phenomenon has been known about for decades.
In human history there is no example of any country or empire spending the vast sums on these weapons systems without using them. The idea that we can trust our "leaders" to act in a responsible fashion has no basis in history.

Russia has built an underground city in the Ural mountains that is 800 square miles. That is an incredible investment for someone who is not planning on surviving a nuclear attack.

Nuclear forces are always on alert. Putin is only getting some propaganda points. I served for a time in the Navy with the nuclear program. Those forces are always ready for battle stations.

Stay out of Western Russia, U.S., and Eastern Europe, if you think Princeton University knows what they are talking about..

Video: Simulation reveals bleak outcome of a US and Russia nuclear war

"Horror simulation reveals the bleak outcome of a possible nuclear war between the USA and Russia that would 'kill 34 million immediately'. This is according to research from Princeton University".
Nuclear war will kill the planet. It's called Nuclear Winter. It's one of the main reasons nukes have not been used since WW2 and why atmospheric tests were stopped. Some may survive if they are well prepped and have a decent shelter. But there won't be much left to fight over.

I find it hard to believe we have seen Russia's finest army, but again, I am only going on the reports I have heard.

I've listened to people from MI6 and others far more qualified than I am. According to them Russian pilots get an hour a week flying time. It's barely enough for them to keep up with flying, let alone ground attack and air defence. They are getting hammered. It's much the same story with ground forces. The money that should have gone to the military has gone to oligarchs. It's been spent on incredibly extravagant lifestyles. Russia developed some great weapons. They can't afford to mass manufacture them.

I agree. However, China wants to sell sophisticated products such as EV's, at which they excel, to world markets. They've done very well out of the West. If the West quits buying from China, as it will if China gets too aggressive, China's economy will suffer. It's fragile as it is. I have a lot of respect for Chinese people. I am not so keen on the leadership.

Saudi Arabia's interest align with Saudi Arabia. If Russia takes over the role of providing security to the Middle East then they will do whatever they need to do.

Iran is Saudia Arabia's biggest issue. Same goes for Israel. Who imagined that the Saudis would make peace with Israel? Not me! If Iran ceases to be an Islamic Republic, which would not surprise me, the whole scenario changes.

In human history there is no example of any country or empire spending the vast sums on these weapons systems without using them. The idea that we can trust our "leaders" to act in a responsible fashion has no basis in history.

No other weapon has threatened the existence of the human race. It's not been used since 1945. And it's not like there has been peace in that time. It could have been used during the Korean war or even Vietnam. America refused because the potential consequences are too grave.

Russia has built an underground city in the Ural mountains that is 800 square miles. That is an incredible investment for someone who is not planning on surviving a nuclear attack.
I'm sure that they like to imagine they will survive. And no doubt some will. But they will have to live in a devastated and hostile world. People are dumb enough to think that Mars could be colonised. Maybe they can be deluded enough to think that a nuclear war can be won. We will see. So far, no one has pulled that trigger.

So far Putin has made very clear red lines not to cross and in each case he has warned us and when the lines were crossed he has responded.

We are now at the place where they have warned of terrible escalation if NATO and the US gets involved, that was followed by the sinking of the Moscow which they said was the start of WWIII and was due to NATO being involved. Now even though he hasn't pulled the trigger on a nuclear bomb he has told his people to prepare for a nuclear retaliatory strike.
