Does anyone know the history of the book referred to today as the Holy Bible?

Does anyone know the history of the book known as the Bible? I genuinely want to know your thoughts as I was brought up to read it but never knew its origins. I was thinking there would be scholars in here who could share some relevant information. Thanks in advance.

The Bible is a collection of 66 works of Holy Spirit inspired writings. The Old Testament was put together by the Jews and protected throughout the centuries of Jewish history. It is verified to be accurate by the 1000s of ancient manuscripts or codexs, archeological finds, and historical knowledge. Jesus taught from these texts and he never once said they were wrong or inaccurate.

The new testament was agreed upon by the 1st century as the apostles began to die off. The only new testament author we don't know is the book of Hebrew but it is thought to be written by Paul because it follows his handwriting style, his way of preaching, and his knowledge of Jewish law and history.

The new testament is also confirmed by the 1000s of ancient manuscripts, codexs, archeological finds, and historical knowledge, the early church fathers, secular texts, and chain of custody.

Fulfilled prophecy is a major truth to accuracy.

I would encourage you to do a little homework on this. There are some excellent books on the subject. By the way, the movies noted above are biased in favour of one English translation, and the history of the Bible encompasses far more than this one issue.

Now, you have to BELIEVE, and can not read it with an "unsure" mindset, elsewise you will glean nothing from Scripture.

The Bible consists of the Old and New Testament. And, surprisingly, there was no bible until 300 years after Christ ascended to heaven. Christ did not leave a book but a Church. And, I know you don't want to believe this, but there was no Bible, Old and New Testament combined until the Catholic Church selected/ratified the books that belonged in the bible.

Where did the Bible come from? It did not just fall down out of heaven. It was not handed to us from the sky directly by God. So, where did it come from? Oh no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It came from the Catholic Church! It was the Catholic Church that made the Bible, copied it, preserved it, translated it, and gave it to the world!

Even so, there is no shortage of myths and conspiracy theories floating around claiming that the Catholic Church hates the Bible and wielded her power to prevent ordinary people from reading it. Moreover, some sadly assert that Martin Luther found the Bible in the deep recesses of the Vatican and made it available to the world. However, nothing could be further from the truth.

In fact it was the Catholic Church that determined which books belonged to the Bible, the Old and New Testaments. Though some have deleted some books of the Old Testament from the Bible, the books of the New Testament remain as originally founded by the Catholic Church.

You may not want to believe this, but examine your history of the bible and you will find this is true.

Rabbi Akiva altered the OT text, created the Masoretic in about 100 A.D. The Alexandrian LXX is more accurate. But even that has some textual errors......that did not exist in the MANY other accurate LXX texts being used in Paul's day. Evidently the apostles quoted from these error-free LXX copies.

There is only one complete LXX text the world today. The Alexandrian from the 5th century AD.

The glaring error I remember....Exodus 12:40......"and in Canaan". This error is never seen in the New Testament anywhere. Evidently, other contemporary LXX manuscripts did not have this error.

The evidence that the one and only Bible we know today is in fact God's Word to man is, quite frankly, so overwhelming I don't see how anyone could possibly deny it while maintaining good faith and objectivity. The apostle Paul alone had about a twenty-year traveling ministry (though he began preaching Jesus as the Christ almost immediately). What he wrote down has been transmitted to the present day in practically infallible form. These documents are unquestionably authentic, genuine and accurate. It is inconceivable that Paul's 20 year ministry would've been accepted if it were bogus false or fraud.

Nothing compares to the Bible. Nothing even comes close. As it should be.

All 27 new testament books were known/compiled by at least 250AD per Origen. This predates the Roman Catholic Church by hundreds of years. The Roman Catholic Church evolved from Emperor Constantine onwards. Emperor Constantine had no business being the "head of the Church"........as Pontifex Maximus is a purely pagan identity. Everything went downhill from there of course.

The canon of the New Testament did not fall out of the sky, it came directly from the Catholic Church. The Catholic and Protestant New Testament canons are the same and were defined by the Catholic Council of Trent. This canon , does not differ, as regards the books contained, from that of all Christian bodies at present.

Sorry, you won't like to hear this but Origen, who you claim to have founded the 17 New Testament books was a Catholic Scholar. No getting away from the fact that the Catholic Church determined which books went into the New Testament of the Bible.

I wouldn't say there was no bible. Sure, there was no canon- but obviously their were Torah scrolls, and the epistles and even revelation was circulated throughout the churches before they were canonized. The idea that the "Catholic Church" (which is obviously not the same catholic church as today) were the only ones to keep the scriptures... I don't think so.

The Bible did not come from the Catholic Church. All parts of the Bible we're in circulation by AD 100.

Lol. No. I did not say that Origen "founded" the 27 books of the New Testament. I said that he wrote about the existence of all 27 books during his tenure. And no he was not a Roman Catholic. Despite the fact that heresies were circulating around even back then.

I agree the Bible as we know it was obviously in circulation before AD 70 due to the fact the temple destruction and Roman persecution is mentioned no where on that scale. Also early church fathers quote from various writings of the NT.

The history of the Bible begins with Moses (c 1500 BC and ends with the apostle John (c 100 AD). The first five books of the Bible are known as the Torah, which began to be copied almost immediately after it was written. There was a group on Hebrew scribes since very early times who meticulously copied the Tanakh (Old Testament in Hebrew). The scribes continued until about 1,000 AD. Note: The book of Job may already have been in existence since about 2,000 BC.

When Christ was on earth He gave His stamp of approval to "the Scriptures" (also called "the Holy Scriptures"). Over half the New Testament was written by Paul, and Peter placed ALL his epistles alongside these Scriptures. The Gospels were already in circulated so by the second century AD there was already a Syriac translation of the whole Bible called the Peshitta. Since then copies of copies of copies were faithfully produced by scribes and monks until the printing press was invented. Then both the testaments were available in printed form, and were also translated. But there were translations in many languages prior to the printing press.

My understanding was that the first compilation of scrolls that were being circulated around the church to be as a measuring stick or rule of thumb (canon) comprising of 11 scrolls in total around 110 AD.
