My goal here was to learn. I could have just kept the old stereotypes and had prejudices. What I prefer to do is understand. Because sure enough there are wackadoos in every camp that gives that camp a bad name. I mean come on, if ya say Lutheran people automatically assume ELCA nut jobs with lesbian pastors, but the rest of the Lutheran Synods reject their foolishness. Why would I assume anything different about others. That there are some and mostly very public groups who call themselves Pentecostal or Baptist but indeed are not and only serve as an embarrassment.
The reason I say evangelical Catholic is because it was what Luther said. Luther's goal was to rid the church of the papal abuses, not start another church. He wanted reform, not division.
Even my view of the Roman Papists is that there are some devout Christians who love God there, but suffer the abuses and embarrassments of the pope.
Anyway the world is in a mess and us christians are gonna be in a tough time soon. We better figure out how to survive together. Even if theological differences prevent us from full fellowship.
It is my opinion that theological differences stem from individual's allowing their personal experiences to formulate a doctrine rather than accepting and pursuing the
common salvation. The result is the many denominations throughout the world. According to Jude 3 we are to earnestly contend (seek) for the faith that was first delivered to the apostles.
Martin Luther certainly came against some erroneous teachings; ie, papal authority, indulgences, etc. However, the reformation (reforming) of common salvation principles found in the written word and presented on the Day of Pentecost continues. So there is still time. Praise God He is longsuffering, and is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
I agree we should try to get along. But must not lose sight of the fact the bible expresses a common salvation. Many are unaware of the ecumenical and interfaith movements being championed by many religious entities. They insist theological differences don't matter. But they are wrong according to Jude 3.
"Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints." Jude 3
