Doing good

As christians,we do not do good to become good but because we are good!

Great question. We do good because all of God's commandments can be summed up by the one commandment, "Love God with your whole heart and your neighbor as yourself." In the Parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus tells us that if we do this we shall attain eternal life.

Christian love of God and neighbor is not just some kind of warm fuzzy feeling. Jesus had no 'warm fuzzy' feeling for those who were persecuting and crucifying Him. But He did love them as He asked the Father to forgive them their sins.

As brotherly/sisterly love pertains to us, we show our love for one another in many ways.....ie....helping those in need, offering our time and treasure to others, forgiving others, showing compassion for others.....

Indeed, in Matthews Gospel about the 'Judgement of Nations', Jesus makes it clear that when we do these types of things for our neighbors, we are doing them for Jesus Himself. So, we also show our love for God through love of neighbor.

In summary, by doing good, we show our love for God and our neighbor and that's what God commands us to do. It is the 'fruit' we bear when we are Christian.

…and we know the good to do not because of need or of opportunity but because we are led by the Spirit in all our ways. By this we participate in the works God prepared for us.

I agree with that.

In the beginning God made mankind in His image. All that God created He said was very good. Not just good, but very good. That remains in effect up until the present day.

Not that our bodies are shaped like God, but rather our soul is made in the image of God or the likeness of God. Therefore, there is something inherently good about everyone’s soul.

Sin is like filth, like dirt, that stains the soul who was made in God’s image. In order to correct that problem, the soul must be cleansed in order to return someone to his or her correct state so that they can have the divine nature they were intended to have.

Hence the blood of Christ which cleanses us from all sin and it is accessed by faith. Not just head knowledge, but faith. We must believe this is true.

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new." 1 Corinthians 5:17

Only God is good..
We can't do good by ourselves but with Jesus (God) in us we able to do good.
Luk 18:19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.

Rom 3:10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

Praise God that Jesus is able to live in us, glory to God for the good we do.

Rom 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. 19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.

Rom 7: 24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? 25 I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.

Rom 8:10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

Agreed. Good works are a FRUIT of Salvation, not a PATH to Salvation.

How can we not be good yet we carry the life of him that is good for as he is so are we in this world! I john 4:17, The reason the bible says no one is good is it treats that on an individual level but with Jesus Christ we are righteous 2Cor 5:21

Those who are in Christ are deemed to be righteous. Because God imputes to them the righteousness of Christ. Which is even better than "good". But also God gives them the Holy Spirit, and it is the Spirit who produces the "fruit of the Spirit" as well as good works.

Christians are appointed unto or ordained unto good works: For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them (Eph 2:10)

We should keep in mind that Jesus of Nazareth did this also: How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him. (Acts 10:38)

Since God is with us also, we are called to walk in the footsteps of Christ: For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps: (1 Pet 2:21)

I believe you already know. Believe Jesus, follow Him in your doing, and you will be just fine. I believe,amen.

And because He is good He imputes righteousness to sinners by His grace.

This walk of christanity is one of the most misunderstood acts of faith and obedience most encounter.
Question is what is good.
If we are talking about acts of kindness why do some wait to be led by the spirit to do so?
If we are talking about acts of love why do some wait .Wait for that compelling feeling of concern or emotional desire?
There are many times where i couldnt stand the person i was helping or consoling.
I could care less because of there actions or beleifs or language what happens to them.
But out of obedience and love for the father and his son i come out of my comfort zone not to enable but to make it able to see the love and concern the father has towards them.
For yet while we were sinners CHRIST died for us. What love have you if you only love those that love you?
It goes far beyond feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, alms to the poor.
Jesus sat with sinners, talked to sinners, helped sinners, in fact the truth is except him all were sinners ...for not one is righteous no not one.
Your actions are a sign and proof of your faith. Its not a work unto salvation as some say but read your scriptures....
It is a requirement. Jesus says do theses things not only for the brother but for all that you are able. Thats obedience.
Expect nothing in return, sometimes not even a thank you.
Want to make a difference...act for the love of your father not according to your emotional compass.

I think you need to understand the meaning of what Good means in this context and what Righteous means ----

Jesus said no one except God is Good -Mark 10:18---this is true ------Good here refers to our Nature -----we are born with a Sin Nature ------our Nature even after we are Born Again stays tainted ------only our Spirit changes --not the Nature ------our nature still gives into our fleshy desires ----we will always at one time or another commit a sin even though we have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit ------so we are not Good ----we will only be transformed to Good when we shed this body and put on our Spiritual body ------full Sanctification happens after we shed our physical body and are present with the Lord in Spirit-----

We are made Righteous when we receive Jesus as our Lord and Saviour ------so what does Righteous mean ----We are made Righteous in our Spirit only -----the Holy Spirit makes us Holy and acceptable to God to enter His Holy Kingdom ------God sees our sins no more ----we have the Holy one on the inside of us ----so our Spirit is Right with God ---but our tainted Nature remains and we still desire the lust of the flesh so we will still fall short of having a good nature ------Our Spirit only is seen as innocent --holy and upright in God's eyes ------Our Spirit Man is in conformity to God's own Spiritual being ------we have God on the inside of us -----BUT ____-Our Fleshy desires are still active in our old Nature so we still can fall into sin ------but God chooses to not charge them to our account ----in the Believer
